Which CCTV lens for wide angle fisheye use ?

Hello everyone,

I've recently started to get interested in C mount (CCTV) lens, for they are fast, wide, and cheap. So I wondered, is there any CCTV lens that I could use as a Fisheye (and get the same effect as the Panasonic 8mm f3.5, but faster) ? Here's a few lens I've found looking on the internet :

Rainbow 3.5mm 1.6
Tamron 4-12mm 1.2
Pentax 6mm 1.2 (+ wide conversion lens x0.45)

Wanted effect :

The GH2 exact m4/3 sensor crop is x1.86.

So I would like to get the same widness as the Panasonic 8mm or any 8mm Fisheye (Samyang, Peleng, Rokinon...) :

Panasonic 8mm : 8 x 1.86 = 14.88mm equivalent (no need for ETC mode)

Rainbow 3.5mm : 3.5 x 1.86 = 6.51 -> 6.51 x 2 = 13mm equivalent

Pentax 6mm : 6 x 1.86 = 11.16 -> 11.6 x 2 = 23.2mm equivalent -> 23.2 x 0.45 = 10.44mm equivalent

x 1.86 : GH2 Sensor Crop

x 2 : ETC tele conversion mode crop (to cover vignetting)

x 0.45 : Wide convversion lens

Does that mean we could use any CCTV c mount lens instead of the Panasonic lens to get the wide fisheye effect ?

C mount lens (1/2") work well on the GH2, but I heard that the CS mount lens (1/3") would still have really heavy vignetting because even with the ETC mode it would not cover entirely the GH2 sensor. Is that true ?

The art of shooting on wide lenses: Lubezki

I've found this essay on cinematographydb.com on the cinematography by Lubezki in Birdman. Lubezki, who is famous for his work with Terrence Malick, here uses essentially two primes throughout the film: a 12mm and 16mm on the Alexa (which are 18mm and 24mm on full frame, very very wide). I was impressed with how natural is the look: Lubezki's style is never "highly stylized", despite of the extreme wide angles. Hi all, I want to achieve a 14mm look. In GH13 language that would translate as 7mm lens. Has anyone come across a decent 7mm or even a 6mm lens that could be used without vignetting?

Wide Angle Adapters topic

Salute everyone,

Problem 1: The 2X crop factor of GH1 and GH2 which make 50mm lenses look like 100mm. It's not just a problem - it's a pain in the neck!

Problem 2: GH1 shoots in 16:9 aspect ratio, while most films today are made in 2:39:1

Possible solution 1: Use Anamorphic lenses or Anamorphic adapters.
BUT... LA7200, which made GH1 and GH2's 16:9 into a nice 2:39:1, is discontinued by Panasonic. The prices for LA7200 and anamorphic adapters and lenses have gone through the roof, and most people simply can't afford them.

Possible solution 2: use wider lenses and crop the top and bottom in post-production.
BUT... wide angle prime lenses are super expensive, and you are still really getting a usual 28mm shot out of your pricey 14mm pancake. And I still don't know how to get that nice Kubrick-style 14mm wide angle shot with my GH13...

So, I want to start a thread around this possible solution 3...
Possible solution 3: use those cheap (~£25-£60) 0.45X wide angle adapters from eBay that will make a 28mm lens behave more or less, like it should - like a 25mm. And a 14mm might finally appear like a nice 12.5mm...

The problem is... does it work? Has it worked for any GH1/2 users in this forum?
Which particular wide-angle adapter has worked well for you? And what about the sharpness, and loss of light-stops, and quality, and other issues?

If you have any information or experience with these wide angle adapters, please share. Because many of us, can't afford anamorphics or even decently wide lenses.

Wide-angle Rectilinear Lenses

I wanted to ask if Panasonic Lumix G 14mm lens is rectilinear? and if Panasonic 7-14mm lens is rectilinear throughout?

And which other rectilinear wide-angle and ultra-wide lenses would you recommend for GH13? Please also mention the rough price for each lens.

I'm especially interested in legacy lenses that could be had for cheap.

Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 on GH2 or Gh1

I'm considering getting a Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 lens for my Gh1 because is said to be a rectilinear (non-fisheye) lens. It is made for crop sensor APS-C cameras, but I'm not sure if it will work on m43 mount. Also, not sure if focus will work manually on GH2 or GH1? Any advice?

Has anyone tried this on a GH2 or GH1?

Hey Ya'll, here is the deal. I am looking for a wide angle-ish lens for my Mirco 4/3. I want a lens that will be good for shooting concerts in venues for the most part. The venues tend to be on the darker side, so a decently fast lens would be good. I currently have a Canon FD 50 1.8, and a Canon FD 135mm 2.5. I would really like to keep the lens under a hundred bucks, would be willing to buy another adapter if necessary. I am currently looking at the Canon FD 28mm f2. But that tends to be in the $200 range, also considered the tamron 35-80mm f2.8. I honestly am decently new when it comes to knowing much about what is available in the older glass. So be sure to throw any suggestions my way! Can't wait to hear from y'all! Thanks in advance.

A wide dilema (with added cashback for UK folks)

I have had the 12mm 1.6 on order from fotokonijnenberg since mid January, thinking that it may arrive by April 3rd when I'm off to California for a bit of a road trip, now they tell me delivery is due mid April! So anyway I am looking for a wide lens, thought about the upcoming Panasonic wide adapter.. that is also now April release.. (you can see a theme here!) So the Olympus 12mm f2 has been on my radar for a while.. except for the price.. but when looking more closely Olympus has a deal on at the mo in the UK.. can get £185 cash back for the 12mm and also Amazon offers another £30 voucher with the 12mm f2 which means £390 / $620 aprox.

Now I really do like the look of the 12mm 1.6 (flare I could get used to) and I like the 12mm f2 apart from the fact that it is so very sharp.. I like the rendering of fd lenses through my experiments. I just wondered about other's experiences with either the 12mm (f2 or 1.6) or other alternative wide options? Has anyone tried the 12mm f2 with Sedna C or blackmist?

Interested in any wide thoughts :)

My budget for lenses isn't much more than $1200... I love the look of the Nokton along with the fact that it'll fare well in low light, but I want to get a decently fast wide lens as well. Is there any reason why I couldn't just plop a .45x adapter on the end of this lens and have myself a 50mm and 22.5mm equivalent in one lens...

I'm wondering can a 20mm 1.7 pancake, tiny lens keep up
with wide-angle adapters , Canon, Nikon etc ...
As I have seen some videos using 20mm 1.7 + Nikon NH-WM75 (0.75)
This would make it 14mm wide-angle i think ...
The problem is wide-angle adapters are very heavy and auto focus have a moving body with filter thread ...
Have anyone tried and how risky is to damage the tiny motor or gears inside 20mm ?
