I'm getting all the stuff together for my GH2 rig and I am looking for an easy to add and remove loupe for the display when it is flipped to the side. something that doesnt require any glue frame or the use a base plate on the bottom of camera. I found this solution which is exactly what I am looking for but apparently they are not producing this product anymore, its nowhere available.

Zacuto EVF Pro viewfinder review https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/305/zacuto-evf-pro-viewfinder-review Wed, 29 Jun 2011 08:14:28 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 305@/talks/discussions The Zacuto EVF is a high-resolution 3.0" monitor that offers the flexibility of mounting virtually anywhere. and is fully compatible with their line of Z-Finder's (Jr. and Pro). The Zacuto EVF was designed for dual-purpose use. With a Z-Finder attached it becomes a high-resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF) and without it's a 3.2" monitor that can be positioned where you need it. The EVF was designed to accept Canon LP-E6 Li-ion batteries making it compatible with the Canon 5D Mark II, 1D Mark IV, and 7D, and Zacuto figured out a way to make the battery last what feels like a lifetime. During the first wedding the EVF was left on during the entire 65 minute ceremony and again on a 4 hour beach shoot a few days later and the battery gauge is still showing 3 out of 4 bars. Incredible. It's a pleasure not to feel as if you need to turn it off after each pause in the action in order to conserve battery power.

On paper the resolution of the Zacuto EVF (800x480 resolution, 384,000 pixels) might seem inferior to the DSLR's 3.0" display which on some models like the 5DMKII, 7D, etc. is billed as having 921,600 dots. What many don't realize is that it takes 3 dots (Red, Green, and Blue) to make up one pixel so Canon's 920k dots equals a resolution of 640x480. Zacuto's EVF with its 800x480 display offers 20% higher resolution than the screens found in video-enabled DSLR's. This is one of the reasons it is easier to judge focus with the Zacuto EVF, even without using the built-in focusing aids, than it is using the camera's own LCD. The slightly larger 3.2" diagonal screen is also a true 16:9 monitor so you'll see everything in the frame and the EVF uses IPS panel technology and a tighter dot pitch (spacing between pixels) to make this an overall great monitor.
...
Despite the smaller size of the Zacuto EVF, when used with the Zacuto Z-Finder Loupe you have the best of both worlds. A big view through the lens and one that can adjust to any shooting situation. At another wedding this past weekend I attached the EVF to an articulating arm which allowed me to keep the screen in front of me while the camera was positioned about a foot above eye level on a tripod. As I tracked the Ceremonial Walk during the [Greek] Ceremony I was able to keep the subjects framed and in focus, despite the shallow depth-of-field. During the reception I made use of the EVF without the loupe for low-angle slider shots and also back on the articulating arm for the first dance, toasts, and high-angle dance floor shots.

GH2 issue: viewfinder is totally blue https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12002/gh2-issue-viewfinder-is-totally-blue Sun, 21 Dec 2014 02:26:16 +0000 gameb 12002@/talks/discussions After coming back from my last shooting the electronic viewfinder of my GH2 suddenly is blue, there is no blacks anymore, especially when it goes to lowlight there is only blue. The Picture is still there. On the LCD screen everything looks fine and the recorded picture is perfect. Its just when you look through the viewfinder. Looks like daylight massively falls into an artificial light white balanced picture. Anybody experienced this issue before? Any hints? BTW, I use Cake and reinstalled the hack without success.

Useful links:

I just did one day run with Wondlan stabiliser doing wedding video. Stabiliser is great and it's extendible rod is actually extremely useful. The problem is framing. So I was wondering about installing cheep FPV camera on GH2 screen and connect it wireless with single eye video goggles (like this: http://shop.reconinstruments.com/Product/MODLive/900-00007) Has anyone seen any other single eye video goggles that could be used for this?

Idea of a new design for viewfinders/displayloupes... opinions? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8842/idea-of-a-new-design-for-viewfindersdisplayloupes...-opinions Thu, 21 Nov 2013 04:51:16 +0000 Illusionist_Films 8842@/talks/discussions What I've ever really been missing in present cameras is a proper viewfinder: I'm talking about the sort of angled viewfinder cameras like Aaton XTR or Arri Alexa are equipped with, where you're able to have the camera on one of your sides when looking through. The only thing nowadays digital cameras are most probably equipped with is a display. I know there are a lot of solutions like display loupes or EVF's, but I don't think any of them being comfortable. I don't like the idea of adding more bulk to the camera with an EVF, as you're not solely adding the EVF but also a proper mounting solution, powering and have the hdmi/sdi cables hanging around (not to mention that good EVF's are pretty expensive and most people already use a monitor which adds enough bulk and cables etc..). So go to the display loupe way? Well, I think most display loupes available are absolutely unflexible as you've to position the camera right in front of your eyes. That's neither convenient nor always possible, depending on tripod, rig or other accessories. The only design I liked was that of the Varavon Loupe EX for GH1/2 (even though i never owned one) as it used the flexibility of the flip- and rotateable display. But again the mobility of the viewfinder depended on the display. So what about cameras with a fixed display like BMPCC? I've come up with the idea for a fully rotateable display loupe using mirrors or prisms inside to work like a kind of magnificating periscope. As I don't have the manual abilities nor the knowledge to built something like this I thought I'd share my thoughts here. I've attached a rough schematic diagramm to visualize it. I know the market for this would be marginal but do you believe this to be useful? Probably theres something similar to this already existing and I just don't know it? I'd like to hear some opinions, suggestions... if someone has the mechanical skills to built this or wants to refine/improve the idea... feel free to do it ;)

GH3 VF Solution https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5649/gh3-vf-solution Wed, 02 Jan 2013 19:12:05 +0000 jimagine 5649@/talks/discussions I mentioned I was talking to the Hoodman people trying to come up with a solution for a VF to fit the new camera. They were unable to get one to do tests, so I was giving them measurements and I came up with a thought.

So I ordered another HoodLoupe and HoodMag for a whopping $120 and I was right. All you need is the Manfrotto 501PL QR plate and you're all set - that's it.

The extended 501 and the existing EVF create a perfect compression fit - I mean better than any system out there, and we've got most of them. When I first measured the camera I realized that the little ridge to the left of the screen should make a perfect stop and it did (although it doesn't need it.)

It's perfectly light leakless (hey, a new word) and fits snug as if it were part of the GH3. It weighs nothing and costs just a little more than that.

I noticed that the new version of the HoodLoupe is a tighter diopter and eyecup than the other couple we have which is great. I mentioned the other day that I thought it was optically equal to the Z-Finder Pro. It's not quite, but it's really good and clear and 3x mag. For a hundred bucks or so, it's a silly good fit.

$60 LCD Viewfinder with diopter & flip up Review from Darren Levine on Vimeo.

Overall a great find, if the construction holds up it's a winner.

The flip up design is what really sold me on this vs competitors, i don't really need a diopter but still it's nice to have. and the optics look quite good along with edge to edge view-ability of the LCD. You will get fogging but as you can see i poked a hole at the bottom to help with air circulation. I will likely just buy some anti fog spray to seal the issue.

Look at Amazon
