Sony RX10 Mark IV New Camera https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17725/sony-rx10-mark-iv-new-camera Tue, 12 Sep 2017 09:19:36 +0000 paglez 17725@/talks/discussions image

Sony today announced the new flagship model in its acclaimed Cyber-shot® RX10 series, the RX10 IV (model DSC-RX10M4).

Featuring the world’s fastesti AF acquisition time of 0.03 secondsii and up to 24 fps continuous shootingiii with full AF/AE tracking, 315 phase-detection AF points that rivals those the fastest professional interchangeable lens cameras and an exceptionally versatile 24-600mmiv F2.4-F4 ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* lens, the new RX10 IV model delivers an unmatched combination of mobility and speed for imaging enthusiasts and professionals looking for the ultimate ‘all-in-one’ solution.

The impressive RX10 IV camera is equipped with a latest 1.0-type 20.1 MP[vi] Exmor RS CMOS stacked image sensor with DRAM chip along with a powerful BIONZ X™ image processor and front-end LSI. These key components all work together to maximise overall speed of operation and performance, ultimately ensuring the highest possible image and video quality throughout the entire range of the 24-600mmiv lens.

Fast Focusing, Fast Shooting

A first for Sony’s RX10 series of cameras, the new RX10 IV model features a Fast Hybrid AF system that combines the respective advantages of 315 phase-detection AF points covering approximately 65% of the sensor and contrast-detection AF to ultimately enable the camera to lock focus in as little as 0.03 secondsii. This high speed focusing complements the extensive 24-600mmiv range of the lens, ensuring all subjects can be captured with precise detail and clarity.

Additionally, for the first time in a Cyber-shot camera, the RX10 IV model employs High-density Tracking AF technology. This advanced technology, which had only been previously available in a select few of Sony’s acclaimed line of α interchangeable lens cameras, concentrates AF points around a subject to improve tracking and focus accuracy, allowing even the most unpredictable subjects including fast-moving athletes and birds in flight to be captured with ease.

Other AF improvements in the new RX10 IV camera include an enhanced version of the popular Eye AF, Touch Focus and Focus Range Limiter[vii]. AF-ON setting is also assignable, as well as multiple AF modes including AF-S, AF-C and AF-A, which can be easily adjusted based on user preferences and shooting situations.

An ideal complement to the AF system, the RX10 IV offers continuous high-speed shooting at up to 24 fpsiii with full AF/AE tracking, with an impressive buffer limit of up to 249 images[viii]. With the significant improvements in processing power for the new camera, EVF display lag during continuous shooting has been substantially reduced, allowing shooters to capture the decisive moment with ultimate confidence. Also, for convenience during image playback, continuously shot images can be displayed in groups instead of individual shots.

The RX10 IV also has a high speed Anti-Distortion Shutter (maximum shutter speed of up to 1/32000 second) that reduces the “rolling shutter” effect commonly experienced with fast moving subjects, and can shoot completely silently in all modes, including continuous high speed shooting, when electronic shutter is engaged. A mechanical shutter mode is also available as well if required by the user.

ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-F4 Lens

The 24-600mmiv ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* lens on the Cyber-shot RX10 IV camera features a large maximum aperture of F2.4-F4.0, helping it achieve outstanding image quality throughout the entire zoom range, all the way up to ultra-telephoto. It includes a super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element and ED aspherical lenses to minimise chromatic aberration, and ZEISS® T* Coating to minimise flare and ghosting.

The lens also has built-in Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilisation that helps to reduce camera shake and image blur. When the feature is activated, it is equivalent to an approximate 4.5 steps shutter speed improvement.

Additionally, with a minimum focusing distance of 72 cm (2.36 ft) and 0.49x maximum magnification at a fully extended 600mm, the lens is capable of producing amazingly detailed tele-macro images.

Professional Video Capture

The new RX10 IV becomes the latest Cyber-shot RX camera to offer the advantages of 4K (QFHD 3840 x 2160) movie recording, with its Fast Hybrid AF system realising approximately 2x faster focusing speed compared to the RX10 III.

In 4K mode, the new RX10 IV utilises full pixel readout without pixel binning, capturing approximately 1.7x more information than is required for 4K movie output to ensure that all the finest details are captured accurately. The camera utilises the XAVC S™ codec, recording video at a high data rate of up to 100 Mbps depending on shooting mode. Users have the option of shooting at either 24p or 30p in 4K mode (100 Mbps), or in frame rates of up to 120p in Full HD mode.

The new camera also has a variety of other professional calibre video features including Picture Profile, S-Log3/S-Gamut3, Gamma Display Assist, Proxy recording, Time Code / User Bit and more, as well as input for external microphone and output for headphone monitoring.

Super slow motion video recording is also available, with an extended duration of about 4 seconds (in quality priority mode) and 7 seconds (in shoot time priority). This unique feature gives users the ability to choose among 1000fps, 500fps and 250fps frame rates and among 50p, 25p and 24p playback formats.

Upgraded Operation and Customization

The new RX10 IV features Sony’s latest 3.0-type 1.44M dot tiltable LCD screen with Touch Focus and Touch Pad function – another first for the Cyber-shot RX series – for quick and smooth focusing operation, and WhiteMagic™ technology, ensuring that LCD viewing is bright and clear in even the harshest outdoor lighting conditions. Additionally, it is equipped with an approx. 2.35M dot high-contrast XGA OLED Tru-Finder™, ensuring true-to-life image preview and playback functionality. Triple lens rings for aperture, zoom and focus are also available, with a completely quiet, smooth option for the aperture ring that is ideal for video shooters.

To enhance customisation, “My Menu” functionality has been added, allowing up to 30 frequently used menu items to be custom registered. Menus are colour coded for easier recognition and navigation, and a new Movie Settings menu has been introduced to improve the overall video shooting experience.

The RX10 IV is also dust and moisture resistant[xii], and Wi-Fi®, NFC™ and Bluetooth® compatible.

Pricing and Availability

The new Sony Cyber-shot RX10 IV camera will ship in October for approximately €2000. Full product details can be accessed here.

NEX-C3 announced https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/196/nex-c3-announced Wed, 08 Jun 2011 05:32:03 +0000 Mimirsan 196@/talks/discussions Aperture, exposure, white balance have been replaced with background defocus, brightness & colour in case y'know people are too dim to understand DSLR terminology (yet Sony say its a bridge between compacts & Dslrs haha) yet smaller design (dont they realise once you slap a lens on it you lose all portability...all a smaller body does is lose practicality with detachable lens cameras)
All I can really see is all theyve done is dumb things down more ,change the body to look less boxy (Sony think this is a upgrade)
if people want a point and shoot they would probably just get a compact.
Least many years ago when pentax released the auto 110 they had small lenses to go with it.
Sorry for the rant but the way things are going with the camera (along with gf3) size war/dumbing down is stupid.]]>

Sony A7III Language Hack Help https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19665/sony-a7iii-language-hack-help Tue, 08 May 2018 02:54:04 +0000 saudkh 19665@/talks/discussions I recently purchased a Sony A7III from Japan. and as some of you know, Sony cameras do not have language settings on them, when they are bought from Japan. I am quite competent with the camera (even with it set in a different language) I mainly bought it from here because the price difference was justifiable.

Anyway, I found the amazing guide on this site (https://www.personal-view.com/faqs/sony-hack/languages) to help replace the camera language files. I was able to extract the firmware files (Funny enough Ive tried many versions of the fw-tool and none of them would extract the file, except the GUI one.) the extractor gave me the 4 files, one of which is the FDAT file the contains the actual firmware and as you can imagine the file is encrypted and thats where I am stuck now!

I realize it might be against the rules to ask for this, but any "tips" or direction on how to extract the fdat file would be highly appreciated? the guide says to google but I am afraid my google skills aren't as good as I thought they were. I apologize in advance if this is breaking any rules.

New G Master line-up consists of a 24-70mm f/2.8 standard zoom, an 85mm f/1.4 prime and a 70-200mm f/2.8 telephoto zoom plus two tele-converters.

PR

Sony Electronics, a worldwide leader in digital imaging and the world’s largest image sensor manufacturer, has today introduced their flagship G Master™ brand of interchangeable lenses.

Sony’s new brand includes three new E-mount full frame lenses including a 24-70mm constant F2.8 standard zoom, an 85mm F1.4 prime and a 70-200mm constant F2.8 telephoto zoom. Representing the ultimate blend of high resolution and beautiful bokeh, the new lenses feature Sony’s innovative optical element technology, design and calibration. This allows them to produce still image and video content with a level of detail and expression that has never before been possible.

“The new G Master brand represents the finest and most impressive group of lenses that Sony has ever brought to market,” said Neal Manowitz, Vice President of Digital Imaging at Sony Electronics. “With our knowledge of what the future will bring for digital imaging, we have designed these lenses and can ensure that the G Master brand will inspire and ‘wow’ photographers and videographers for years to come.”

FE24-70mm F2.8 GM Standard Zoom Lens

Featuring some of the most advanced lens technologies in market today, the new FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM (model SEL2470GM) is the ultimate choice for those seeking the highest possible optical performance for portrait, travel and event photography or even simple everyday shooting1.

The new lens is built with three aspherical elements including a newly developed, extremely precise XA (extreme aspherical) element that reduces aberration and delivers the ultimate resolution throughout the entire zoom range and aperture range, as well as from corner to corner of all image files. Additionally, an ED (Extra-low-Dispersion) glass element and Super ED glass element keep chromatic aberration to a minimum while maximizing resolution and bokeh without any unnatural coloration.

The lens features a 9-bladed aperture that maintains a near circular shape at all settings and is coated with Sony’s original Nano AR coating to suppress reflections and ensure spectacular contrast and clarity.

The new FE24-70mm F2.8 GM lens has a direct drive SSM (Super Sonic Wave Motor) focusing system that works with incredible efficiency thanks to a new set of algorithms that positions the lens elements quickly and accurately. The motor is smooth and quiet, making it an ideal choice for shooting both still images as well as movies.

To maximize usability, the lens is dust and moisture resistant and features a compact, streamlined design that includes AF/MF switch as well as focus hold, zoom lock and hood release buttons.

Two new matching filters for the FE24-70mm F2.8 GM lens have also been introduced, including the VF-82MP MC protector and VF-82CPAM Circular PL filter..

FE 85mm F1.4 GM Telephoto Prime Lens

Designed as the ultimate portrait lens, the long-awaited new FE 85mm F1.4 GM telephoto prime lens (model SEL85F14GM) strikes a perfect balance between resolution and bokeh in a compact package.

The lens features a new XA (extreme aspherical) element as well as three ED glass elements that work together to ensure that the in-focus areas are captured in extremely high resolution while the surrounding out-of-focus areas dissolve smoothly into a beautiful soft backdrop. It has a circular aperture with 11 blades – the most ever used in an α lens – that ensures bokeh is smooth and visually appealing. Externally, the new model has Sony’s original Nano AR Coating, which is of particular importance in a portrait lens as it reduces flare and ghosting, even with backlit subjects or similarly challenging lighting conditions.

For accurate autofocusing, the FE 85mm F1.4 GM lens includes a ring drive SSM motor system that provides ample power and speed to drive the lens’ large, heavy focus group. It’s also equipped with two position sensors to support flawless focus control of the large, heavy lens elements.

This new professional portrait lens is dust and moisture resistant and also has an aperture ring with on/off switchable click stops that can be adjusted based on whether a user is shooting still images or movies. It also has an AF / MF switch and a focus hold button.2

FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS Telephoto Zoom

Covering the frequently used 70-200mm focal range, the new FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS telephoto zoom lens (model SEL70200GM) offers extremely high rendering, AF performance and image stabilization, making it a versatile choice for shooting wildlife, sports, weddings and a variety of other events and locations.

The new flagship telephoto zoom model delivers extraordinary sharpness and clarity throughout the entirety of its zoom range thanks to its three advanced lens elements including XA, Super ED and ED glass components, as well as its Nano AR coating.

The new FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS lens features a floating focusing system – implemented in an α zoom lens for the first time – that contributes to an impressive minimum focusing distance of merely 0.96m and ensures AF performance is optimized during both still and video shooting. The lens includes a SSM (Super Sonic Motor) plus dual linear motors that work together to move large lens elements quickly - a task that requires a high level of drive control and ensures focus accuracy. The new model also has built in Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization for capturing sharp, blur-free subjects at all focal lengths and a rotating tripod mount that allows the camera to be quickly removed from a connected tripod as needed.

The new 70-200mm telephoto zoom lens is dust and moisture resistant with an additional fluorine coating added to the front lens. It also has a focus hold button as well as a focal range limiter.

Sony has also announced new compact 1.4x and 2x Teleconverters – models SEL14TC and SEL20TC respectively – that offer even greater reach while maintaining the overall streamlined design and feel of the 70-200mm lens.3

Pricing and Availability

The new FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM Standard Zoom and 85mm F1.4 GM Telephoto prime lenses will be available in March for about $2,200 and $1,800, respectively.

Sony NP-Fxxx batteries topic https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3743/sony-np-fxxx-batteries-topic Sun, 01 Jul 2012 02:39:09 +0000 sam_rides_a_mtb 3743@/talks/discussions Just got two of the 312 LED lights and love them! Used them for just over two hours and they did not quit, though pressed the 'T' button on the back afterwards and battery level indicator did not light up any of the 4 or 5 level lights, indicating the batteries were nearly fully discharged. Looking to get some of the larger NP-F970 or similar batteries (6600 mAh+/-) and see some on ebay for $17 shipped and some for $150. Most are around $25-$35. Can anyone give some feedback about what has worked for them?

I looked through the current threads and did not see much info about this. If I missed it, can someone please point me in that direction and then Vitaliy can close this thread.

Edit: Also, do you need to have matching capacity batteries on these 312 LED lights? And do the two batteries run in a series or in parallel - essentially do they increase the voltage by having two, or simply extend the run time?

Thanks!

Sony Rx0 hack https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23594/sony-rx0-hack Sat, 29 Feb 2020 09:39:07 +0000 gypsea 23594@/talks/discussions Hi We have a project where we remotely control and power Sony Rx0 cameras. We have discovered that the Sony Rx0 has an internal RTC battery that goes flat after a few months. When the battery goes flat the camera requires a language and date and time reset. This stops our remote control connection and we have to then physically access the camera. We need to modify the firmware so that it does not require the language and time reset when the internal battery goes flat. All other settings are still stored and the control works fine after we reset the language, timezone and date time. I followed the links to the Sony source code distribution. Do you think it would be possible for me to make these changes. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sony X800H TV https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/25188/sony-x800h-tv Sat, 06 Feb 2021 10:53:57 +0000 Eno 25188@/talks/discussions I saw it in the store and I fell in love with it's natural image!

The generic name of the TV is Sony X800H, my model KD-65XH8096 being a European designation of the 65 inch with a certain color and shape of feet.

A detailed review can be read here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800h

Things that delighted me:

  • Image profiles are good "out of the box" but the image can be improved to near perfection after careful calibration; it is actually a pleasure to watch any kind of content on it!
  • It has an IPS screen with a large viewing angle,
  • The screen is flicker free, with backlighting white LEDs (not blue), an aspect that is easy to overlooked but very important for eyes and health!
  • It has a low latency of 10 ms and supports 4K 60hz in RGB mode, being very good to use as a PC monitor,
  • The matrix is very fine, pixels are observed at a distance greater than 50 cm from the screen,
  • As a PC monitor I use it at minimum brightness so I have no clouding problems (black is very uniform),
  • The sound is surprisingly good, the voice is clear and well defined and it offers a little bass,
  • When used as a TV, scaling the image to lower resolutions is surprisingly good due to the powerful image processing.
  • It has plenty of inputs and all HDMI ones are high speed 2.0.

Things I love less:

  • With an IPS panel, the ~1100:1 contrast is mediocre, the black is not as deep as it is in VA panels (where the viewing angles are smaller) or oled (which develops burn in over time),
  • Clouding on black can be seen at high brightness levels,
  • Due to the large size of the screen, you can see a small shift in color and brightness between the area where you stand perpendicular to the other edge; this small shift in color and brightness is visible only up close and only on evenly light shades, it's NOT noticeable in pictures, movies, games, etc.
  • A few days after the acquisition, a pixel remained hot (lit), but due to the fine matrix I normally do not notice it unless I look for it carefully or on uniformly dark backgrounds,
  • The corners have a very small vignetting,
  • Sony menus are confusing, poorly structured and the manual (non-existent in physical format) does not detail much of the functions described and is as poorly structured as the menus. It was "a lot of fun" to make it work in 4K 60hz RGB format, as the input had to be manually set to support this mode (nonsensical cause all HDMI ports support HDMI 2.0 high bandwidth) and only 2 of the image profiles "Game "or" Graphics" are sited for PC use (the rest of the profiles do not support RGB or 444); and obviously in the manual it was almost impossible to find accurate information, but luckily we have the internet. :)
  • A BUG: every time I close the TV while the computer is running, when reopening the screen it enters in 4:2:0 mode until I change the picture profile up from "Game "or" Graphics" to "Cinema" or above, then scroll down again to "Game "or" Graphics" profiles. I bet this bug can be fix in a firmware update if Sony acknowledges the problem and has the good will to fix it.

In conclusion:

I'd like it to be perfect, no TV really is, especially in the more affordable segment. After the effort to connect it to the PC in RGB mode, a careful image calibration and ignoring the small quirks it has, I honestly say that I'm very satisfied with it! It's absolutely fantastic to watch up close: movies, games, images, etc., on a 65-inch screen (a cinema experience). If I had to choose a TV in this price category again, I would buy it without hesitation!
