Latest Live Music Video from Me and my GH2 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8805/latest-live-music-video-from-me-and-my-gh2 Sun, 17 Nov 2013 21:30:41 +0000 tylerknight 8805@/talks/discussions Hey everyone!

I had the chance to work with a great musician and friend Maneli Jamal to shoot a video of him performing his original song Cold Arrival.

He plays a very niche type of acoustic guitar called fingerstyle guitar ( Andy Mckee, Don Ross, Michael Hedges to name a few)

This was with the GH2, Flowmotion 2.0, Canon FD 24mm f2.8 and a wicked musician!

Let me know what your thoughts are on the grade and overall shoot!

And definitely check out Maneli on youtube he's incredible.

Something I know I did this summer :) https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8460/something-i-know-i-did-this-summer- Thu, 17 Oct 2013 05:36:42 +0000 inqb8tr 8460@/talks/discussions This is a rock festival that I'm connected to. We did the promo and the gigs.

Promo was shot with GH2, sankor anamorphic and few nikkors, sedna hack that I won't let go. It was very simple atmospheric piece, with info written on objects, boats, cars, doors etc. Graded in Lightroom. 23hrs from idea to tv broadcast, guess I broke some record.

And one of the videos from the festival itself, done with 5 cameras, GH2, Canon 1Dc, 7d and 550d, and HMC150. Matching them was pain in the ass, but most important to me was the fact that 1Dc (though not in LOG mode and not 4K) and GH2 matched amazingly well. I like my GH2, and would rather have 25 GH2's than one 1Dc! :)) I had GH2 on the rig others around on monopods and handheld, multicam edited in premiere..

Thanks for checking it out!

Audio Compressors basics https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7229/audio-compressors-basics Wed, 12 Jun 2013 12:08:50 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 7229@/talks/discussions

Compressors and limiters are specialized amplifiers used to reduce dynamic range — the span between the softest and loudest sounds. The use of compressors can make recordings and live mixes sound more polished by controlling maximum levels and maintaining higher average loudness. Additionally, many compressors — both hardware and software — will have a signature sound that can be used to inject wonderful coloration and tone into otherwise lifeless tracks. Compression can also be used to subtly massage a track to make it more natural sounding and intelligible without adding distortion, resulting in a song that's more “comfortable” to listen to. Alternately, over-compressing your music can really squeeze the life out of it. For those who are unfamiliar with compressors, having a good grasp of the basics will go a long way toward understanding how compression works, and confidently using it to your advantage.

Pride (live music video) https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7666/pride-live-music-video Fri, 02 Aug 2013 09:18:30 +0000 hempo22 7666@/talks/discussions Pride week in Sweden and the band Le Maine celebrates by releasing a live video of their song "Pride" that they wrote for the Swedish festival last year. And with all the shit we've been hearing about lately concerning LGBT people it was time to remind people that they are not alone. I'm not gay, bi or trans, but many friends and family are and think we should stand beside them. I feel honored to be friends with Tove (lead singer and songwriter of Le Maine) and help her film this important song and help her share it as much as possible.

Just to give you a bit of the process: I was asked just the day before and I was lucky that two of my students had tickets and would be in the audience. I gave the each a camera and I was backstage (We used Sony EX1/3, all handheld), but I also handed out a consumer handycam and my iPhone (with Filmic Pro) to people I didn't know in the audience to really get a documentary feel to it. And to play a little safe I had my GH2 (Flowmotion) and Tokina 11-16 on a tripod in the back. A friend of mine mixed in Pro Tools.

Of course it's not perfect, both coverage lacked sometimes and the LED lighting gave some nasty artifacts, but the raw feel of the footage and the energy of the band and the amazing old theatre we filmed in gave it all av very special feel. I edited in FCPX we're I also did my grading with Filmconvert (to enhance the raw feel and it did combat the harsh blues of the LED lighting and the grain hid a lot of the artifacts.) Not the best I've done technically , but considering the circumstances I'm happy with it and it's all about the song and helping my friend and her band to reach out.

"We will never lose our pride".

New music vid shot on GH2 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6266/new-music-vid-shot-on-gh2 Wed, 27 Feb 2013 07:34:43 +0000 amokalex 6266@/talks/discussions Hey all,

A while back my short The Boss won a few awards and got a load of views, well here's my latest bit of work, a music promo for James Yuill shot in the desert of Tabernas in southern Spain. (Where a bunch of films have been shot; the good the bad and the ugly, lawrence of arabia and mad max 3 amongst them).

We used a few choice lenses, mostly the Voigtlander 25mm f0.95, Canon FD 85mm 1.8 and a random CCTV lens (26mm f1.4 I think), coupled with one of the Sanity hacks (I think version 5).

Had lots of comments about the look, few people (and experienced people!) mistaking it for Red footage, so we got something right!

Thanks again to this site for the hack and knowledgable advice which helps indie filmmakers out no end . . .

Visual ideas for shooting live music performance https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5763/visual-ideas-for-shooting-live-music-performance Sun, 13 Jan 2013 08:35:42 +0000 Mark_the_Harp 5763@/talks/discussions I think this is a great example of a simple video of a performance. I'm guessing it was probably done in more than one take, but what I really love is the use of focus pulls, particularly where several "planes" are involved, and also the shots of the performers at the start of the video. It captures perfectly what goes through your mind as a performer before starting a piece.

This is a link to the facebook page - I can't find out where the original source video is so you'll have to visit the page to see this. Well worth it, though, for anyone considering doing video of performance, just for some ideas.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=232639466870299

While you can do an imaginative video using all sorts of locations and parallel stories, I think it's a challenge to do an interesting video of performers which just concentrates on them throughout. I really like what they've done here and would be interested in seeing any other examples of video which is confined to the one location.

Music and Art https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5577/music-and-art Mon, 24 Dec 2012 19:07:23 +0000 DrDave 5577@/talks/discussions For my art and music show, I had been thinking for quite a while now about Robert Altman's use of extended depth of field in his movie "Prairie Home Companion." In his movie, Altman often stops the lens down to capture the ensemble feeling on the stage, sort of the opposite of using shallow DOF to highlight a soloist. So I decided to try and use this effect in the wide angle shots in this video--I used the Panasonic mini-pancake 14mm/2.5 at F4 (more was grainy). Nice to have the whole stage reasonably well in focus. Flowmotion II on lowest setting, as it was a concert and I needed the card space and reliable spanning. Unfortunately the heater blower was on during this winter show, I decided to leave most of the noise in and just roll off some of the rumble.

Best hack for filming live music https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5446/best-hack-for-filming-live-music Mon, 10 Dec 2012 19:00:04 +0000 athirdeye 5446@/talks/discussions I recently filmed a performance in a small venue where I had no control over the lights. I used the most recent (sharp) drewnet hack with a 50mm canon FD lens on 720p. I noticed in post that the lights caused my video to come out choppy. Meaning each time the lights changed it would split the video in 3 horizontal bars. Still great quality but wtf.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a hack that would work best in a live music setting with constant changing lights and what not?

*SOLD* Original ROLAND TB-303 Analog Synthesizer FS - Excellent Condition "Like New" https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5141/sold-original-roland-tb-303-analog-synthesizer-fs-excellent-condition-like-new Thu, 08 Nov 2012 14:18:05 +0000 thepalalias 5141@/talks/discussions Update: 2012-11-14 Added pictures

I've seen this successfully sold for as much as $6,000 on eBay recently. This one is selling for $2,200 because having that much within the next week would be a lot more helpful to the project than two times that in 30 days. :)

The Roland TB-303 analog synthesizer. It is one of the five most iconic electronic instruments produced and has been featured by some of the top artists in electronica and hip-hop since the 1990s. Pick up or shipping from L.A. (and as you can see, the original packaging is included, right down to the plastic and styrofoam).

The instrument has been endlessly sampled and imitated (both in hardware clones and software instruments). Just the cloned versions alone can sell for around 1000 Euros.

But this is a vintage original, bought the within a year of the original release in the 1980s and used less than 20 times since it is not a natural fit for the artist.

Comes with original box, packing materials, manual, quick reference and even the original signature vinyl carrying bag. I turned it on today to try it out and it controls properly and has the characteristic vibe that the instrument is known for.

These synths have appreciated ever since they were rediscovered and artists around here have sold theirs for as much as $6,000.

Will provide SN and serial # if anyone wants.
