IMHO , love the Nokton at all , nikkor got strong bokeh cool colors and is sharp , Fujinon got very nice pearly bokeh but is very soft .

GH2 vs Nikon D800

I'm thinking about selling my aging D700 to get D800. I am totally satisfied with D700's stills, and the only reason I'd get D800 is the video. Right now I carry GH2 for video and D700 for stills, would be nice to have the best of both worlds in one body. I bet some of you handled or even own both GH2 and D800. Would you be so kind to share your impressions?

From the tests I did, I thought I'd have to grade to match, but I didn't do an any CC and I think they match just fine.

Who can tell what shots where shot with which camera? I can't! Basically I love the functionality, robustness, and cleaner iso on the GH3....if it makes video as good as a hacked GH2, I'm okay with the price. Love having both!

Weird footage only with gop settings

Hello personal-view community. I'm having these strange picture breakups and extreme artifacts on my two bodies which I bought from different stores, 6 months apart. These issues occur when using gop settings, never happens when using intra settings. I'm not trying to say anything bad about gop settings, in fact i would love to be able to use them but they always end up like this and they playback in camera this way. I tried to upload the file here but wasn't able. The clip is on my youtube page-23diddley. I appreciate any feedback

Recording GH2 HDMI using MX02 & black magic intensity

Hello All and thank you for having me.

I reall need some help here. I have a Matrox MA02 and a Black Magic Intensity Pro. I also have a 2 x GH2 with the OEM firmware.

I am capturing DIRECTLY to the MX02 and Blakc Magic. 50i, that is what is on the black magic and 25i on the mxo2.

When I play the footage in premier it is all jittey and not smoth at all. If I play the Black Magic footage in windows media player it is very smooth, but no the MX02 footage.

I have read days worth online with the GH2 and using AVISnsyth and that was NO GO..

Please can someone help...... I am bangin my head against a brick wall.

Namibia Documentary Shot on GH2

Here is the first half of a doc I shot, edited and wrote (alone) called The Wild West of Namibia. Lenses: 20mm, 14-40mm and 100-300mm panny. Rode Video Mic Pro. The aerial time-lapses were with the GoPro Hero2 flying off the wing of the airplane for several hours at a time. Edited in Premiere Pro. Can't playback videos

Hey there, GH2 + 128 Gb Sandisk (45Mb/S). I hope I'm in the good section for my question. After hacked my GH2, I have troubles with Playing back my videos on the GH2. Sometimes it writes me 'Can't playback video'. The hack consisted using ptoo3.66d (beta) changed the bitrate to 88Mb, AQ=4 and PAL/NTSC Menu. I checked the integrity of the card, no errors found. No errors during recording videos (at least, no messages or breaks). May be my possible error was I put Increment to 12 and after rehacking it I put Increment 10. Someone already met this problem ? Hey folks.

I just wondered if anyone had put up any stills, or clips of the same scene between a stock and hacked GH2 where the improvements are clear to see?

I've yet to hack mine and am about to go away for a week's holiday with it next week, I'm torn as to whether to hack with stable settings or just leave it as is because i'll be away from my computer so unable to revert anything if i encounter an issue.

My gut says play it safe and wait, but I just wondered if there were any comparisons where the difference is so large that it'd be worth me hacking to try and improve any footage i get.

Hi guys,

I'm Itching to use my GH2 (as I've been in revising all morning :( ) and work on some colour grading with davinci. Although it is raining quite heavily, that's good as I want to film the water droplets but I'd be interested to know if anyone has had any problems with the camera getting wet/damp and whether I should take precautions other than an umbrella?

I'll be using old manual glass if that makes any difference Zenitar/Nikon

Also if anyone in NW London has a monitor I could borrow in three weeks that'd be great ;)

GH3 A cam, GH2 B cam settings?

I'll be doing my first gh3+gh2 two camera interviews in the coming weeks and I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with what the best settings are to match the two? I peeked around and didn't see anything about this, just comparisons. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...color profiles, hacks, +/- settings, ect.

I currently have a Flowmotion 2.02 hacked GH2. I have to the money to get a second GH2 body or two Gh2 cameras with a basic 14-42 lens kit. The primary Gh2 will be used for all masters. With the secondary GH2 or GH1s used as reaction, close ups, or secondary shots, etc.

Without putting too much into grading/color correcting the videos the videos to match, would it be better to just go with a second GH2 and shoot everything twice, or just get two GH1s?

Also, if I went with the dual GH1 setup what hack would best match the GH2 Flowmotion 2.02 IQ?

GH2 ISO noise bug at 320, 640, and 1250

The GH2 ISO bug for 320 has been documented already: if you switch from ISO 250 to ISO 320, there's more noise than if you switch from ISO 400 to ISO 320. I have mapped the bug for ISO 640 and ISO 1250 as well. It seems that the bug is exhibited regardless of whether you record or not.

Switching to ISO 320: low noise from 400, 500, or sometimes 640; high noise from all others and from power off
Switching to ISO 640: low noise from 800, 1000, or 1250; high noise from all others and from power off
Switching to ISO 1250: low noise from 1600 or 2000; high noise from all others and from power off

I couldn't detect the bug when switching to any of the other ISO settings - if it's there, it's subtle. But for 320, 640, and 1250, it was unmistakable. Aside from the bug, I would say that none of the ISO levels seemed particularly more or less noisy than would be expected. I'd say to use whatever ISO level you need, being careful to avoid the bug.

Note that it is not sufficient to simply switch from any higher ISO to avoid the bug.

A good practice for ISO 320, 640, and 1250 would be to switch to the ISO setting 1/3 stop higher, and then back down. (i.e., 400 to 320, or 800 to 640, or 1600 to 1250).

CHDK-Like Motion Detection Possible on GH2?

I've been experimenting and using the motion detection scripts from the Canon CHDK hack on my Canon S100 and from what I've done it looks like it's going to come in real handy for set-and-forget bird photography, which is what I mostly do. It made me wonder if such a motion detection parameter might be possible in the GH2 hack? It's been fun going into the various motion.bas scripts and turning on/off masking areas of the screen and changing the sensitivity of the motion detection so it got me thinking of doing the same with my GH2? Possible? No? Yes? Hope so, but I probably would have heard about it by now.

I did do a search of the term 'motion detection' but only found one incidence which was a request for it in the coming GH3 hack.

I did a little videopart for my friend with my Gh2 and flowmotion and I still love that hack. I didn't put to much effort in editing and the intro (which sucks), but it's something. There's also a little gopro stuff used, but from now on I will work with my GH2 and AG-AC90 only as soon as it's delivered
