I shot long (~1h) clip using Panasonic GH2 and Samsung SDXC UHS-1 PRO card (64Gb capacity, 40Mb/s writing speed, ExFAT format) card in 1080i mode and HBR quality (same problem for FSH and FH rec quality) . Three files ~4.2Gb each were created. Then I converted these MTS files into MPG files using AUNSOFT MTS converter and stitched them in Adobe Premier Pro CS4. The output was one mpeg2 file and at each stitch between two files video freezes for ~0.5s while audio seems to be smooth. When I play initial files, Windows Media Player shows same ~0.25s freeze at the beginning of 2nd and 3rd MTS files (not not the first!) that becomes slightly more pronounced for MPG files.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Hacked GH2, possible video modes. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6853/hacked-gh2-possible-video-modes. Tue, 30 Apr 2013 11:51:29 +0000 migo 6853@/talks/discussions Hi, I'm going to purchase and hack GH2, specification of camera says about max available mode 1080p/60i. But FAQ says that 60i is available for 720p. Is there way to hack / increase bitrate for 1080p/60i and set lower shutter speed (eg. 1/100) for GH2? Is it possible to hack with that settings GH3?

Cotton Carrier Vest...My Impressions https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6844/cotton-carrier-vest...my-impressions Mon, 29 Apr 2013 17:06:57 +0000 ragnar 6844@/talks/discussions First off I don't work for Cotton Carrier or have anything to do with them whatsoever. Anyway, here's my rather long-winded experiences with their vest system. http://buy.cottoncarrier.com/cotton-carrier-camera-vest-p/635rtl-s.htm -First up, check their factory seconds and refurbs as I saved a bunch of money doing it that way. -Why didn't I have one of these vests from the get-go? One of the reasons I left my GH2 at home so much from my trips to parks for nature photography and video was because despite being a m43 system it's just too clunky, awkward and heavy to haul around for the many hours I spend walking the woods up here in Wisconsin, USA. I tried many times but just gave up and stuck with my Canon S100 and LX7, rarely taking my GH2 along. All of that has changed now with my vest. I've had that vest on for hours at a time and rarely consider that my GH2 with the 100-300 Lumix lens was on it. It's quick release so its up with the camera for photos and then back into the vest. I also use the safety tether clipped to one of the GH2's strap brackets. -My plan from now on will be to carry by GH2/300mm combo for birds on the vest and my coming GX1/Oly 60mm macro on one of their holsters on my hip. It's going to be a great spring and summer for butterflies and birds.

These 3 pics of the Hermit Thrush were all taken because I was able to haul my GH2 around with the vest. Very pleased with its build quality and adaptability. The pics are converted from the DNG originals. Edited in Camera Raw and exported using PS Elements 11.

Chalky looking footage, skin does not look smooth? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6556/chalky-looking-footage-skin-does-not-look-smooth Sat, 30 Mar 2013 15:35:08 +0000 dreo 6556@/talks/discussions Pretty disappointed with how my GH2 footage turned out. I shot a live band performance from side stage, and gave up on trying to fix it in post. The venue was very well lit, but I remember being at around ISO640. Was it overexposed? No matter what I do to the image color correction and grading-wise, it looks terrible.

Any tips on how to not do this again in the future would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

B+W Special Effects Cine Filters x3 Retro [multi-image] 62mm https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6839/b-w-special-effects-cine-filters-x3-retro-multi-image-62mm- Mon, 29 Apr 2013 10:34:35 +0000 bheath 6839@/talks/discussions I'm selling these weird and ?wonderful? multi-image filters.

I had them with my Braun Super 8 camera, and now they are collecting dust.

There are three filters in the set:

  1. [A+ Condition] Multi-Image 3x Prism Consists of high quality glass with three equally sized prism surfaces that meet in the center. It produces three identical images whose positioning can be changed by turning the rotating mount.

  2. [Water Damaged!] geletin core, but still usable]3x Color Prism The 3x Color Prism attachment produces the same effect as the 3x Prism Parallel, but adds a gradual, soft blending of colors. The three parallel images can be positioned by rotation.

  3. [A+ Condition] Multi-Image 5x Prism This prism contains a square prism in the center of the attachment and four trapezoidshaped prisms in the outer area. It produces one central image surrounded by four identical images which may be moved around the square by rotation.

Give your movies an authentic groovy look with these high quality German filters!

BTW: I'm also wanting to sell my 14-140mm Lumix. Hardly ever use it - $350.00 + shipping + $10.00 donation to this site.

$60.00 takes all three filters. Shipping + $5.00 donation to this site will be extra.

Thanks!

PS: I don't have all the pictures here on the page, but I could send them to you if you wish:)

Most of the footage is color and general 'home video' stuff (Christmas, somebody's wedding, some kid's birthday, etc), so what is the best picture profile on the GH2 to accurately reproduce the original color of the film?

I typically shoot with 'Smooth' all at -2, but that's so I get a very flat, gradable image. I will probably transcode the AVCHD files straight to an internet ready H.264 file, but I have no plans of grading any of it.

Short visual poem: IT LÊSTE LJIPAAI - THE LAST LAPWING EGG [GH2, Canis Majoris] https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6752/short-visual-poem-it-leste-ljipaai-the-last-lapwing-egg-gh2-canis-majoris Sat, 20 Apr 2013 05:49:08 +0000 richardwouter 6752@/talks/discussions In Fryslân there is a cultural-historical competition to find the first lapwing egg of the year. This visual poem captures the spirit of a tradition, which is bound for extinction.

I made this film in admiration of my father. When I was a little boy he took me into the meadows to find eggs. I still remember the beauty of the landscape, the sound of the birds and the excitement when we found eggs. Sadly we never found the first egg. I also remember the cold of the wind and tired feelings in my small legs. Often asking my father to carry me on his back.

DISCLAIMER: No real eggs were harmed during the making of this film. We only used empty egg shells. My father stopped collecting eggs years ago.

Gathering lapwing eggs is prohibited by the European Union, but Fryslân (a northern province of the Netherlands) was granted an exception for cultural-historical reasons. The Frisian exception was removed in 2005 by a court, which determined that the Frisian executive councillors had not properly followed procedure. As of 2006 it is again allowed to look for lapwing eggs between 1 March and 9 April, though harvesting those eggs is now forbidden.

Lapwings belong in meadows. The name lapwing describes the sound its broad wings make when in flight. Lapwings are also known as peewits, thanks to their shrill call. They are very vocal during mating season and have glorious courting rituals in the air. In the spring, the male makes several simple hollows in the ground and the female chooses one to make brood her eggs in. Both males and females brood the eggs and care for the chicks. Should their nest with chicks be threatened, they will defend their young with all their might. Sometimes, you see them flying after a harrier, constantly attacking the raptor. If it really gets serious, they will pretend to have a broken wing, luring the predator away from the nest.

The Frisian languages are a closely related group of Germanic languages, spoken by about 500,000 members of Frisian ethnic groups, who live on the southern fringes of the North Sea in the Netherlands and Germany. The Frisian languages are the second closest living languages to English, after Scots. Filmed at Vegelinsoord (West Frisian: Vegelinsoard) a small village in Skarsterlân in the province Fryslân of the Netherlands.

I own a T2i and have learned to use it over the last couple years. I've been curious about the GH2 since the hacking stuff became popular and all over YT and Vimeo. Now I met a guy who's lending me his GH2 (with a Nokton 25) for a week. I will be shooting a wedding on Saturday and I don't want to go there not knowing the camera (I'll have the T2i on me anyway but I really want to play with this beast).

The menu is not very intuitive but I don't think I need to mess with it anyway. I chose 24p CINEMA and Smooth mode (-2,-2,-2,-2,). My friend tells me it's already hacked and I wonder what hack he is using. Is it possible to know ? I tried to shoot something and play it back on my mac and MBP couldn't handle that much glory I guess. The video just kept freezing. Is that normal for a raw MTS file to be unreadable before conversion ? BTW, is there an easy way to find the bitrate of a video file ?

Thank you for your attention !

I have reached the conclusion that the ideal would be one of these two options because arent so expensive. With less than $400 I can get one of these bodies even be used. I cant buy a NEX-7, NEX-6, E-M5 or E-PL5. Sony has a magnificent sensor, is excellent for photo still, plus I can use my old glasses, I think the Zuiko 50mm f1.8 or Asahi SMC 50mm f2 is one luxury with NEX to photograph street, rather than the GH2 as photo still.

And although the opportunity for ask which of the two NEX is better for video ?, Isnt the for video, but if I use one as a second camera in any circumstance or for any determinated shot, and I like the idea of have two different systems to experience both worlds.

Thanks advanded

While shooting the battery ran out and the camera shut down. When I put in the fresh battery, I could record no problem, but i could no longer do any playback. When I got home I returned the camera to the original firmware, but not matter what I do I cannot get the camera to go into playback mode. Every time I hit the playback button the screen goes black and I get the SLEEP CANCEL" message. When I try and change the settings in the playback menu, it won't let me and the menu mode closes and goes back to shooting mode. I've tried everything, card reformatting, shooting in different modes, and resetting all settings, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?

Microphone for GH2 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6687/microphone-for-gh2 Sat, 13 Apr 2013 11:12:38 +0000 JP_91 6687@/talks/discussions Hello everyone!

First of all, sorry for my english but I'm italian, so maybe I'll do some mistakes during the topic.

Now, that's the question. I am a videomaker and I decided to record a low-budget movie, after 3 years' experience with short-movies.

I have the screenplay, I have the cast (almost all), I have the camera (gh2) and I have a problem with the audio.

As long as I want to produce a professional (or semi-pro) work, I can't be satisfied with the internal mic's quality of GH2. The problem is that the budget is limited (300-350 €), so I can't spend a lot of money.

Surfing on the internet, I have found two solution: the H4N Zoom and the Rode Videomic Pro.

Now, many say that for obtain a good quality is necessary to combine the two microphone and so attach the RVP to the H4N and record the audio track on it.

But, it's possible to have a good quality of sound by using only one of this two microphone? If yes, wich?

Or there are other choices (considering the budget) that can provide a good quality audio?

Thanks for reading and for any replies :)

Panasonic GH2, Faulty Shutter Release Button. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6212/panasonic-gh2-faulty-shutter-release-button. Fri, 22 Feb 2013 06:28:04 +0000 JimmyH 6212@/talks/discussions I recently purchased a GH2 as they are selling at stupid prices and thought it would be a good upgrade from my little LX3.

My charger died after around two charges and from new my camera has had an odd feel when the shutter release button is pressed at even the slightest angle. I was starting to wonder why I randomly couldn't review my photos or access the quick menu, it seems the button is sticking at the half press position.

As the button has been popping up at an angle it has rubbed on the paint which is now starting to flake off causing more sticking problems. To date I have probably used the camera five times but I am worried Panasonic will deem it as being user error as even to me it would look that way.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with a GH2?

Apologies for the poor pic- http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp350/fairy1_02/P1110639_zps34aba5ec.jpg

(Any rapid or semi rapid pan crashed it). I did some further testing (rapid pans at regular ISOs) and it seemed stable enough to bring on a shoot, so now I'm out in the field and it occasionally crashes at 160 ISO when dealing with complex outdoor scenery.

I'm confused and surprised that a card rated up to 95mb/s is crashing with a hack that is at 44mb/s??? Has anyone else experienced this? It also crashes on my older Transcend Class 10 16GB cards but not that much more frequently. Completely lame given the cost differential between these two cards.

I'm considering reverting back to baseline, but nervous to do so in the middle of a shoot (the vanilla hack was my first hack on the GH2 so this is still new to me). For now I'm working around it. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.
