Item #1
Lumix G7 Hacked to enjoy unlimited recording. Silver. Mint. The silver is quite nice, actually. Body, Charger and original battery plus clone spare battery. Used as a B cam for ten indoor video shoots only, plus some stills. This camera is silent in use for video (no IS whir or fan). Very light weight, great for travel. $250 plus $15 Insured shipping Priority.
Also included: the original box (box is in pretty good shape, but not mint like the camera) original unused strap, original unused software (never tried the software...) The hack, which allows for unlimited recording, is reversible, but you would not want to reverse it.

Item #2 Olympus Pro Zoom 12-60 2.8-4 FOUR THIRDS with electronic adapter.
This is an awesome lens, but it is built like a tank. I have the 12mm prime, the 14mm prime, the 50, the 60, the 75, so I don't use it, but it is very sharp, very bright lens.
It's 4/3, not m4/3, but has an electronic adapter
Absolute mint. $175 plus $15 priority mail shipping

Replacement for the stock battery for G7, GH2, possibly the new G85 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15833/replacement-for-the-stock-battery-for-g7-gh2-possibly-the-new-g85 Sun, 02 Oct 2016 11:32:48 +0000 DrDave 15833@/talks/discussions Actually, a good replacement for the stock battery. Maybe more. For G7, GH2 &c. possibly the new G85

I use a lot of the BLC12 Batteries. I buy the Panasonic ones; they aren't cheap but they last the longest and don't turn the camera off with no warning.
However, I do buy aftermarket batteries for testing from time to time. They often have very high ratings, and they never work very well.
A few years ago, I bought the DSTE "1600mah" battery. It had about 70 percent of the stock battery's power, and the stock battery is 1200 mah. So that's 840mah, or about half the advertised capacity.
A few weeks ago, I purchased the 1700 mah version at this link:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MEAMBQU
It weighs 55 gm as opposed to the stock 50gm. Previous clones weighed 46 and 48 gm.
Now before you get excited, the extra weight is probably ballast, since you can't squeeze more cells into a battery, as a general rule.
However, after extensive testing, this battery is equal to--not better--but equal to stock. The only difference is that the shutdown curve is a bit steeper.
So it isn't "1700" mah, but it is basically a stock battery.
This was quite a shock, but I repeated the tests several times. In one test, I simply turn on the camera and record video until the battery croaks, and measure the time. Both the stock battery and the DSTE run the G7 for two hours of video, sometimes a few minutes more, sometimes a few minutes less. So, finally, an inexpensive option. At least for this batch. Also, see my post on the cheap external battery that will run your camera all day.

Step-up USB adapters for Panasonic, Canon, Sony & others https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18896/step-up-usb-adapters-for-panasonic-canon-sony-others Tue, 30 Jan 2018 23:19:58 +0000 DrDave 18896@/talks/discussions These have been around for awhile, but the price has come way down. Basically, it's a USB DC-DC converter that lifts the standard USB 5 volts to, for example, 8.4 volts for Panasonic.

I purchased this one.

image

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073XYYYWR

There's another model that has two USB inputs, so you could use two power banks or use one and draw more amps.

I was skeptical, and the packaging made me even more so, cardboard & crinkly shrinkly, but I plugged it into my cheapest 5200mah power bank and measured the voltage. 8.8 volts, which is just about right (I've gone as high as 9.2, but prefer not to). Notably, the needle on my trusty voltmeter did not wiggle. Also noteworthy, it didn't seem to need the recommended 3 amp draw. It comes with a 3 amp wall wart if you just want to plug the camera into the mains for power.

It comes with a bog standard dummy battery. The step up converter is tiny, not much thicker than the cable. Plugged in the camera (Panasonic G7) and waited. The 5200mah power bank ran the camera for 156 minutes, or two and one half hours. Not bad--you are going to lose some power in the conversion so don't skimp on the power bank. I'll do some tests later with my RAV 20,000mah bank.

Camera ran cooler than expected.

So there you have it, easy, lightweight power from USB. I had been using 9 volt packs with stacks of Panasonic 18650 cells (runs forever....). But this is really easy.

You can buy adapters for most cameras, and considering the fact that it comes with a dummy battery, the price is cheap. Will it burn out? Interesting question.

I Directed a no-budget Game of Thrones Fan Film - 30% GH4 & G7 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17004/i-directed-a-no-budget-game-of-thrones-fan-film-30-gh4-g7 Wed, 24 May 2017 06:41:10 +0000 Bernie 17004@/talks/discussions Last year, myself and a friend wrote a Game of Thrones Fan Film script and gathered a crew of enthusiatic and talented people trying to break into the local industry. The show is filmed where I live in Belfast and we were trying to make ourselves known. I directed the film, although I shot small portions on G7 as either B cam or when the DP was unavailable.

Here's the finished film.

It was mainly filmed on the FS700 with the firmware upgrade that turns it into a 4K beast. Some scenes shot with GH4 and G7, and even a few LX100 B cam shots. Personally, I think it shows that money is best spent elsewhere as long as you have a half decent and reliable camera system. It was a massive headache though matching vintage lenses on GH4 to more the modern canon and panasonic glass, nightmare. Don't do it, stick to one or the other.

Winter (Inverno) from Vivald's Four Seasons with the original sonnets https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15353/winter-inverno-from-vivalds-four-seasons-with-the-original-sonnets Tue, 12 Jul 2016 17:41:50 +0000 DrDave 15353@/talks/discussions When Vivaldi published his Four Seasons concertos, he included sonnets which were inlaid into the original engraving. In a concert, even if the sonnets are included as printed text it is not quite the same experience as seeing the text accompany the music. To recreate the original experience, we have created a digital overlay for Vivaldi's sonnets: click the CC button to view the sonnet as the video plays, and use the gear icon to choose your preferred language.

The Aria Ombra mai Fu, from Handel's Opera Serse. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14911/the-aria-ombra-mai-fu-from-handels-opera-serse. Sat, 02 Apr 2016 14:19:48 +0000 DrDave 14911@/talks/discussions Countertenor Christopher Lowrey sings the aria Ombra mai fù, from Handel's opera Serse. 4K, Ultra HD video from the Voices of Music "Art of the Countertenor" concert, March, 2016.

Handel’s arias form one of the core repertories for singers of 18th-century music, owing not only to the quality of the compositions but also to the variety of affects and styles present in his operas, oratorios and sacred music. The aria “Ombra mai fù,” known also as “Handel’s Largo,” is one of his best-known works; somewhat surprisingly, it comes down to us through a circuitous path. The original version was composed by Cavalli in the mid-17th century, then “borrowed” by Bononcini for his 1694 production of the opera Serse, then substantially revised by Handel for his own version of Serse which premiered in London in April of 1738. Handel's version retains the overall texture, scoring and melodic shapes of the original, but Handel reworks the vocal line and creates more interplay between the singer and the violins.

Ombra mai fù di vegetabile, cara ed amabile, soave più. —Nicolò Minato Never was the shade from any plant more dear, more lovely, or so sweet.

Help to decide: RX10/100 or Nx500 or A6000 or G(x)7 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13491/help-to-decide-rx10100-or-nx500-or-a6000-or-gx7 Sat, 01 Aug 2015 17:46:10 +0000 vulgatron 13491@/talks/discussions Hi everyone, I'm currently using a GX7 with the PanaLeica 25 1.4 and a 14mm 2.5 as my main camera. It does great, but sometimes I miss more dynamic range and more DOF, so I'm considering moving to an APS system. I mainly use my camera for video, but also need a cam that takes good pics.

Do you thing the A6000 with the 16-50, 35 1.8 and sigma 60 2.8 would be an improvement over my actual equipment? I have no rigs so stabilised lenses are a plus for video. Ideally I'll get a EM5 (II) but the video seems kinda lacking.

On the other side, 4k is very appealing, since I can get better 1080 and crop to stabilise clips, so I'm considering the NX500. I could get the NX500 with the 16-50, the 30 f2 and maybe the 45 1.8. Would this be a better choice, considering overall image quality?

What are your thoughts on lowlight video with this cameras? Does the APS sensor a better job than m4/3? Also any of those other lenses are comparable to the PanaLeica? I like how it renders everything. Which leads me to maybe even consider the G7 and keep the lenses, only the 25mm and then get the 14-42 kit.

Maybe that option makes more sense unless there's a considerable difference with any of the other combos.

I would love to get 120fps (i know the nx500 does it at 720) but the NX1 or GH4 are out of my range. So I'm even considering the new RX100 iv, since the zoom range works great for me, would that be a step back? Specially DR and lowlight performing or the SLOG is an advantage?

Please let me know your thoughts and experiences so I can clear up my mind!

Cheers

PHOTOfunSTUDIO 9.7 PE https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13952/photofunstudio-9.7-pe- Sun, 18 Oct 2015 13:06:20 +0000 Scot 13952@/talks/discussions My question or observation in need of confirmation is on the format conversion function. I need to convert my G7 4K footage to either FHD MP4 or MOV but I'm having an issue. The first is that my 24 fps footage is being converted to 30 fps and I see no way to stop that. Is this the way it is or a bug anyone else notice it? The other issue is I converted to both MP4 and MOV and the MOV file seems to be identical to the UHD file visually but the MP4 version definitely has increased contrast. Can anyone explain this? Looking for any solution or suggestions. I'm using Resolve 12 to edit which on my system has a very difficult time with the UHD files which is why I need to convert.
