An exceptional price/quality ratio PC screen!

4 important specifications cached my attention:

  • IPS screen with wide viewing angle
  • 100% sRGB color gamut spectrum coverage
  • Flicker free
  • Blue light filter

Out of the box the screen came well calibrated, with a small Delta-E variation of color. After a manual calibration, it approaches perfection (except for the typical brighter black of IPS screens).

The "Flicker Free" and "Blue Light Filter" functions are very important for the eyes, especially for long working periods of time in front of the computer. I did not encounter problems related to ghosting or clouding, the image uniformity of my sample being impeccable. It doesn’t make much sense to comment much about IPS technology, whoever is interested in image editing, knows why to choose an IPS screen in favor of other technologies on the market.

The screen is elegant, with thin edges on the side and top and the construction is made of good quality plastic. The foot is made of metal and offers an inclination from -5 to 20 degrees.

In conclusion, for my needs (image editing) it’s an excellent screen at a very decent price. I recommend it with confidence!

When taking pictures on filter mode ("miniuature","old days" etc) I can't find the way to import the pics with the effect to my mac. Previosly I did find the pictures when inserting the sd card directly in my mac laptop, but now the pics (in RAW format) they look without the filter itself. Is the right file but seems that the effect is lost in between? I know it worked fine when I bought the camera so I suspect is a software upgrade thing? Thanks

It is top quality filters.
Good optical glass that does not badly affect sharpness as cheap filters do.
Very consistent color among all filters.
No IR contamination that can result in horrible color shifts, especially for stronger ND filters.
Comes in very good padded packets.
3mm thick, so works perfectly with cheap matte boxes.
Available at: ND 0.3, ND 0.6, ND 0.9, ND 1.2

Available as individual filters and 3 filters set.

General Questions on Filters for DLSM Video https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4333/general-questions-on-filters-for-dlsm-video Wed, 22 Aug 2012 17:34:40 +0000 Aria 4333@/talks/discussions Being a Newbie I've been somewhat confused about selecting and the proper use of Filters in particular for Video on a DSLM like the GH1/2.

  1. If I use a Polarizer does that negate the need for a UV Filter?
  2. If I use a Variable ND does that negate the need for a Polarizer?
  3. Is there a negative effect from using several different types of filters let say a UV, Polarizer and Vari ND all at once or is there a net positive effect from using all 3?
  4. What is the best pattern to organize the filters on the lens if using a variety of filter types. ie. Vari ND 1st, then Polarizer, then UV?
  5. Is it best to buy the best SET of filters from the same brand or the best individual filters from different brands.
  6. Is there some kind of rating system for Filters that can be used to compare their effectiveness? ie effect on sharpness, color etc. How would someone actually choose one filter from another to find the best one if there is no rating system? Is there a really reliable resource on the Web?

Sorry if there is some thread that covers this, but I haven't come across any that concisely address this topic.

FS Genus Matte Box with Tiffen and Formatt ND filters https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14540/fs-genus-matte-box-with-tiffen-and-formatt-nd-filters Fri, 05 Feb 2016 08:14:25 +0000 a_fulda 14540@/talks/discussions I am selling my Genus Clamp-on Wide Matte Box. This is a very light wide angle matte box with a 4 x 4" fixed filter tray and a 4 x 4" rotatable filter tray. It comes with a 72mm adaptor ring. As you can see from the pictures the matte box is in a very good condition. You can see from the close-up picture that the French Flag has a minimal dent at the front, which does not affect the overall performance.

I bought the Genus Matte Box for £400 in 2012 and used it with my GH2. I am selling this together with a 4x4" Tiffen ND 0.3 and a 4x4" Formatt ND Grad SE 0.6 filter. The filters are in very good condition and there are no scratches. I purchased both of them for £346 from CVP in 2012. The price for the whole package is £350. The reason for the sale is that I am now using a C100 with built-in ND filters. I am happy to cover shipping costs within the UK.

Hardware search: rotating step ring for mattebox use with rotating lens fronts https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7673/hardware-search-rotating-step-ring-for-mattebox-use-with-rotating-lens-fronts Sat, 03 Aug 2013 11:30:19 +0000 QuickHitRecord 7673@/talks/discussions My mattebox is mounted to a rod system with a sliding base from LockCircle, so lenses that extend when focusing or zooming are not a problem (the mattebox slides on the rods). But lenses with rotating fronts still pose a problem and I'm trying to find a some kind of anti-friction or bearing-based intermediary ring to put between the matte box and the lens's filter thread.

Before anyone suggests it, I know that I could remove the glass from a circular polarizer and use that, but I don't think that it would be smooth enough. I'd like to see if there is anything that is specifically designed for this.

EDIT: The .3 to 1.2 kit has sold. But the 1.5 to 2.1 + Circular Polarizer kit is still available for $220. Shipping is free.

I'm selling 2 Tiffen Indie ND Kits. One is the kit that has 4 NDs in it (.3, .6, .9, and 1.2). The other is the kit that has the (1.5, 1.8, & 2.1 NDs, and the Ultra Circular Polarizer). I bought these brand new from filmtools.com about 6 months ago for a film shoot. The script went through some revisions and ended up being shot all at nighttime, so we had no day shots, and didn't need to ever use these ND filters. These are all 77mm.

They come in black padded pouches that have a belt loop so you can attach to your belt for easy access on a shoot. They are still in the Tiffen boxes, new and unused. If you want both of these, I'll offer them at $350 for the pair. If you want just one, the .3 to 1.2 kit is $165, and the 1.5 to 2.1 plus Circular Polarizer kit is $220. Shipping is free.

Hoya Pro ND, alternative to Tiffen IR ND https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8463/hoya-pro-nd-alternative-to-tiffen-ir-nd Thu, 17 Oct 2013 07:56:31 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 8463@/talks/discussions

OCTOBER 16, 2013 - Kenko Tokina USA, Inc. is pleased to announce the new Hoya PROND line of neutral density filters with ACCU-ND technology.

The ACCU-ND technology in the Hoya PROND filters yields a truly neutral color balance that will not add any noticeable color-cast to your images. The Hoya PROND series is aimed at the still photography and HDSLR video markets. The series provides 9 filters from two stop to 10 stop light reduction.

image

The Metallic ACCU-ND coating on the PROND filters do not color shift as you move from one density to the next, a common problem with other series of neutral density filters. Now you can set your white balance once and have the same color balance even if you need to change filters due to changes in lighting, or for creative effect.

The PROND filters use Hoya’s exclusive clear optical glass that has a metallic ACCU-ND coating front and back to create the neutral density affect.

Neutral density filters are designed to reduce the amount of light entering your camera lens and should not have any other effect on the image. Reducing the amount of light allows for the use of wider apertures or slower shutter speeds for creative and dramatic effect in bright lighting conditions.

All Hoya PROND filters have a low-profile one piece aluminum frame. The thin frame keeps the glass secure and parallel to the sensor while allowing it to be used with super-wide angle lenses

Vivitar Variable ND Test https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6727/vivitar-variable-nd-test Wed, 17 Apr 2013 15:10:14 +0000 DailyFilmFix 6727@/talks/discussions Here's a test I did today with the Vivitar NDX variable filter. I have been in post on my latest doc, "Three Days at Foster," and I've been working overtime on color correction. I used this particular filter on my Zuiko 45mm because the filter was for 37mm thread. I knew there were concerns about color cast and loss of sharpness, but a lot of what I shot was lovely anyway. The rest, I'm fixing.

So, for this test, which is probably not well done, I set up my GH1 with the reliability hack and set it to smooth with everything -2. I manually white balanced on the white door with each test after I set exposure. I pulled focus using a loupe.

To my eye, the one with the filter on it and the extra LED light does look, perhaps, a little less sharp. When I sharpened, it became a little more clear that there may be a slight loss of sharpness. But you guys look at it and tell me if my eyes need to be reset.

I ran three cameras on my doc (two GH1s and an HMC150) and was able to find an angle every time that worked. But I did not properly pay attention to color on some shots and tried to dial it in. After this test, I'm going to manually do it moving forward. Actually, I did manually balance with my video camera (the HMC150) on each interview, which did make a difference.

My main question is: now that Light Craft has a 37mm variable ND available at Adorama, based on this test, how much better would it be?

Finally, I realize that the casting and focus issues would become more pronounced as I cranked the ND down (darker), however, mine was set in the middle of the scale on the side of the filter, which I thought would be good for this test.

Pros : One filter to rule them all, fast adjustment.
Cons : Color cast on some models, cross figure could appear on high ND values, resolution loss.

Most usable sizes of Fader NDs - 77mm and 82mm.
Buy metal conversion rings for each of your lenses.
It is good idea to have them all converted to 77mm or 82mm.

Also note diameters, as filters with higher cost have larger outer diameter usually.

I have a 4x4 matte box (2 rotating holders), and i am trying to get some Formatt graded ND filters for a landscape shoot in sunny California desert. I am thinking they will come in handy. They don't make them in 4x4, only 4x5 so that you can adjust where the horizon line falls. Makes sense. But, how do i make these fit my 4x4 holder? The adjustable 4x5 holders are too thick to put in a matte box.

B&H has Cavision 4x5.65" matte box holders for $56 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/627071-REG/Cavision_MBH4X5_65H_MBH4X5_65H_4x5_65_Metal.html) and Redrock dual 4x4 / 4x5.65 holder (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/672534-REG/Redrock_Micro_4_002_0003_microMatteBox_4x4_4x5_65.html). Would either of these work? What about that extra 0.65" on the long side, will the filter fall through?

Any other ideas/solutions? Circular filters won't work, i have too may lenses with varying diameters, even as small as 22mm.

And no cross and color shift issues associated with reverse poliriser filters. :-)
