GH3 Best Video Settings https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7091/gh3-best-video-settings Tue, 28 May 2013 18:13:57 +0000 maddog15 7091@/talks/discussions Bought a GH3 just over a week ago. So far extremely happy with it on many levels. Have an interview job coming up so I did a multi cam test with my GH2 (Moon T5 loaded) and my new GH3 (Highest setting - MOV 1080p 24, @ 72Mb/s, All Intra). GH3 as camera A - front, GH2 as camera B - profile. When I synced the two vids in Premiere Pro for a multi cam edit... things were...different. Long and short of it.... the GH2 with Moon T5 kicked the GH3's butt hands down in low light.

In a nutshell the GH3 produced much more noise than I expected. And an overall lower quality image vs the GH2 under the same shooting conditions. (Both cameras shooting with the same f-stop, S-speed and ISO)

It was recommende3d by @robbin that I try the 50Mb/s IPB setting. I did so but still don't see much improvement or change in the noise with lower light. Was shooting at ISO 400 so I should be fairly safe right? Per many other professional shooters I have Sharpness at -5, Contrast -5, Saturation -2. Noise Reduction at 0 as -5 allows too much noise and +5 seems to muddy or soften the image as a whole to me.

Any feedback is welcome on best video settings for GH3

What camera/ lenses for action https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9632/what-camera-lenses-for-action Sat, 15 Feb 2014 16:07:36 +0000 Duly_noted 9632@/talks/discussions I am a stuntman and free runner looking for a good camera for video and some stills. I have never used a dslr or M43 for any great length of time. I need 1080 p and 60 fps for slow motion. In my price range I'm looking at the Panasonic G6 or the new Nikon D3300. I'm having trouble deciding and was wondering if anyone with the G6 has experience shooting sports video with it. Also what glass would you recommend? Most shots will be during the day in Texas sun. At least one with shallow depth of field for some artistic shots and a wide angle. Should I get the kit on Amazon with the 14-42mm and add from there? I saw some people recommending cannon lenses, cheap but good I think. Which camera do you think would have better video quality in 60 fps? I know that can effect editing with plugins like twixtor.

Thank you for your time, responses, and patience, I am a noob now but hope to be good at this eventually.

Table of the Hacks https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7044/table-of-the-hacks Wed, 22 May 2013 17:32:29 +0000 blazer003 7044@/talks/discussions I was heavily involved in testing and created my own personal custom settings for the GH1. I had the camera before it was ever hacked and was really happy to be able to boost its performance. At that time I had lots of extra time to keep up to date with all the patches and to an extent, knew what each patch did.

I was late to the GH2 game (as I really was fine with my GH1 other than the terrible green banding in low light that my camera produced. Honestly, it was one of the worst I've seen of any examples) and my job in the last couple years has been more projects and less time to dink around (I'm not complaining). So I've messed around with Flowmotion, and Sanity, not as much with Driftwood as I don't have 95 MB/s cards and don't have the time. But there are so many hacks, variations of Driftwood hacks especially, that I'd like to try out, but even being an "experienced" GH hacker, there are so many out there I have a hard time wrapping my head around what they do, or claim to do and what the new settings are.

Really, it's been this way for anyone coming into the GH hacking world from the beginning with the GH1. Tons of information spread across tons of forums and topics.

So, my question is: Is there anywhere that has a simple table with a lot of the major settings and some information on what their claims, bitrates and GOPs are? Something like the attachment below (this data is probably NOT AT ALL accurate, I'm doing it as an example). If there isn't one, doesn't anyone else think that this would be extremely helpful, especially for someone who isn't on the forums every couple of days keeping updated on the latest and greatest patch? I could have done this for the GH1, but I'm not qualified (as I stated above) to do this for the GH2.

Is there someone willing to put together a rough list? Maybe a wiki page somewhere so others can add details to each?

GH2 patches are installed - how do i switch between them? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5412/gh2-patches-are-installed-how-do-i-switch-between-them Fri, 07 Dec 2012 23:24:18 +0000 pic2post 5412@/talks/discussions I managed to use ptool to save a "new" version of firmware and installed it on the camera. I have different patches/hacks on all the green buttons A - J (except F - i don't know why this happened). can i switch between patches/hacks once they're loaded on the camera, or can i only load one patch per "new" version of firmware? if multiple hacks are loaded onto the camera, how do they appear in the menus?

    thanks, g

Conforming MJPEGs to 25p with Cinema Tools produces files that FCP won't import. Any other workflow? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3544/conforming-mjpegs-to-25p-with-cinema-tools-produces-files-that-fcp-wont-import.-any-other-workflow Mon, 11 Jun 2012 08:28:24 +0000 ickejohannes 3544@/talks/discussions Sorry if this has already been answered, I've been searching the forum but so far without finding a solution.

I'm trying to get MJPEGs from the GH2 to play at 25 (or 24) fps for a slight slow-motion effect. However when I conform the clips with Cinema Tools, the resulting files cannot be imported in FCP, as I get the error "File Error: Unknown File".

Does anyone know what the problem is or could help me out with an alternative workflow to get FCP to playback the MJPEGs at 24 or 25fps?
