Davinci Resolve - add one frame at end of each clip? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20213/davinci-resolve-add-one-frame-at-end-of-each-clip Thu, 09 Aug 2018 04:00:24 +0000 oscillian 20213@/talks/discussions Bit of a noob thing here: I imported 50p footage to a 24p timeline and finished the project. Resolve can't change the timeline after the first clip is conformed, so... I selected all the footage, deleted everything, changed the timeline to 25p and CTRL+Z:ed to bring back the footage.

All good, but... all clips are one frame short, so the resulting movie is too short. How can I add one frame more at the end of each clip?

Any ideas are truly welcome :-)

GH4 Noise https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12254/gh4-noise Tue, 27 Jan 2015 18:32:18 +0000 acvschwartz 12254@/talks/discussions Hello, first time posting here, and overall camera noob... I picked up the GH4 to do some promo vids for a clothing line I am releasing soon.. and tested it out all day today... I found the videos to be a little grainy and a little noisy.. I have uploaded 2 videos to youtube linked below. The one titled "madden" was shot in cinema 4k, 24p and was uploaded to youtube from final cut pro x using 1080p. the other video titled "gh4 noise test" was shot using FHD, 24p and was also uploaded through FCPX using 1080p.

I dont know if its just me... but I see a lot of noise and not such great quality especially on the C4K madden video which is weird. All shots are straight from the camera.. no color grading.. I know the editing and shots arent so great... but i just wanted to upload these to get your opinion... I purchased my gh4 off ebay through what seems to be a camera shop's account and they were running a promotion on the GH4 for $1,399.99 and I am using a Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-42mm f/3.5 - 5.6 lens. Please let me know what you think... is it fine and im just overreacting? should I try to return the camera to get a new one?

GH2 - GF2 drewnet v6 PAL - NTSC output influence on 24p footage https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10777/gh2-gf2-drewnet-v6-pal-ntsc-output-influence-on-24p-footage Fri, 11 Jul 2014 14:38:02 +0000 eventive 10777@/talks/discussions I've been using my GH2 with the drewnet v6 hack in NTSC output mode for a long time (in PAL land). Now that I've got an extra GF2 (also drewnet v6 installed), I want to combine footage of both the camera's. I'm thinking about using 720 25p on both camera's to do so (unless someone has a better idea). But I'm also in the middle of a bigger 1080 24p project on the GH2. When I change the GH2 from NTSC output to PAL, does this influence the 1080 24p footage in any way?

How do I get rid of it ?

LPowell Max Latitude hack for GH1, but 30p? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3393/lpowell-max-latitude-hack-for-gh1-but-30p Mon, 28 May 2012 23:33:24 +0000 Maximalist 3393@/talks/discussions I love my GH1, I love LPowell's Max Latitude hack. I need to shoot something for a client, and it needs to cut together with other 30p footage - is there a problem with changing the frame rate in AVCHD to 30 frames? Will the chip handle that? Or should I switch to his maximum reliability hack? Either way, it has to be 30p (I'll switch back to my beloved 24p max latitude hack afterwards).

Also, do I have to switch back to the factory settings before installing a new hack, or can I just bump up the new hack to a higher version number? Thanks in advance for all your help!

Is it possible to get more bitrate out of GH1 at 60i/50i...? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3101/is-it-possible-to-get-more-bitrate-out-of-gh1-at-60i50i... Fri, 04 May 2012 03:08:57 +0000 CRFilms 3101@/talks/discussions Aki, the guy doing the testing of purple filters to try and improve image on the GH1 didn't like the aliasing he was seeing. He tried serveral fixes and one he says he found is to shoot interlaced.

Some of what he's saying I don't get...ok most of what he's saying. ^_^ But has anybody tried maxing out the bitrate at 60i? Is it possible to get more out of the GH1 than 100mb Max Lat? I tried some of what he's talking about and I get this in some of my footage when I try to go low GOP and 60i. This pic is at GOP3 1080i, when I tried messing around with peak reliability hack. That pic is unwrapped with cineform.

Possible to get more than 100mb at 60i?

EDIT: Those blocks/errors happen at fast pans.

Which framerate to mix 24p and HBR25/30 footage? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2847/which-framerate-to-mix-24p-and-hbr2530-footage Thu, 12 Apr 2012 18:21:01 +0000 duartix 2847@/talks/discussions Please help!

I'm planning to do a comparison of various video modes and shutter speeds and I'd like in the end to export one video that mixes thge following material:

  • 24p footage @ 2fps that will be speed up 13x

  • 24p footage @ 2.5fps that will be speed up 10x

  • HBR30 footage @ 2.5fps that wil be speed up 12x

  • HBR25 footage @ 5fps that wil be speed up 5x

How should I handle this in After Effects?

TIA.

GH2 best auto mode to convert to match manual mode shots of 24p https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2250/gh2-best-auto-mode-to-convert-to-match-manual-mode-shots-of-24p Sun, 12 Feb 2012 04:02:35 +0000 Jrb 2250@/talks/discussions I shoot in Manual mode as we all should, 1080p24.... But some times the shots i need to get involve moving camera a lot (or zooming in and out) so manual mode is not so good as my exposure doesn't change to match what ever light has changed with movement.

Therefore I sometimes use the fully auto video mode and it does everything for me. Sometimes i need to quickly grab the cam before I miss the action.

So my question is: What is the best mode to convert to match my 1080p24 footage?

1080i - I would need to deinterlace and then this would end up 540p right? Well, no way true 1080p

720p - ok this is 50p and I would be stretching the footage to become 1080p

I know I will be losing quality but sometimes it can't be helped for the odd few short shots here and there.

So my thoughts were to use 720p rather than 1080i... Any ideas? Thank in advanced.

Hacked GH2 24p patch - Does Live Hdmi Out Monitoring work? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1975/hacked-gh2-24p-patch-does-live-hdmi-out-monitoring-work Mon, 09 Jan 2012 19:02:14 +0000 Toronto 1975@/talks/discussions Hi, I have a hacked GH1 and like it because of the blackout-powel native 24p hack that allows the native 24p where I don't have to do any fiddling with pulldown bla bla stuff at all. Problem with GH1 is that I can't have HDMI live out monitoring, so it is almost impossible for me to keep eyes in focus with a manual lens since I can't make out details well enough on the lcd screen alone. I can setup the focus sharp using the focus assist zoom at first, but if someone moves a tiny bit after recording starts then the shot is basically no good to use. I am hoping the GH2 can help me with this but I have a question about it.

Q: If I get a GH2, and hack it with the GH2 version of the blackout-powell native 24p patch, can I hook up my hdmi computer monitor to it and be able to monitor the output live with that 24p patch installed (at 1080p)? I want the live HDMI out so that I can easily see when the focus goes out and be able to keep adjusting the manual lens as I look at the hdmi computer monitor while recording. My question is I don't know if after I hack the GH2 into 24p native if it will have a live HDMI monitoring feed that is useable direct into an hdmi computer monitor or not. I read that the output from the GH2 only works in 1080i mode, so from that I was thinking if I hack it and put on the 24p native patch the hdmi out may then not work, and that I may be forced to keep it in 1080i mode only if I want to get a live HDMI feed that works into a computer monitor while recording.

I hope everyone can advise me on this if you have tried what I am talking about and know what the results are. Since I don't yet have a GH2 I can't test this and don't want to buy one unless I know I can do this because I don't want to ever again work with anything except native 24p footage, and I don't ever want to work with any new camera that can't do that and give me a live 1080 output that I can use as a focus aid while recording, since the lcd is not sufficient to visually see well enough to focus at a professional level of exactness.

The live hdmi 1080 will probably work as i or p, as long as it is true 1080 out, since I am not recording the live output to a recorder, I just need it for a visual focus aid to magnify the image into a big computer monitor so I can get better focus whenever someone moves a bit out of focus.

Thanks very much.

How to get higher bit-rates and true 24fps with Gh13? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1402/how-to-get-higher-bit-rates-and-true-24fps-with-gh13- Wed, 09 Nov 2011 17:57:42 +0000 kronstadt 1402@/talks/discussions
(long time reader, first time joiner/poster)

So I came back from London with 4 hours worth of lens-test footage - mostly night-shoots and hand-held. This was my first shoot with my Gh1 re-born as a Gh13 after I applied the hack with LPowell 100mbps settings, with Overall Bitrate set at 108,000,000. I shot everything in FHD AVCHD, on 32GB class 10 Transcend cards. As far as I can remember, my Gh13 never crashed or frose.

The footage looks great, but it's not as "mind-blowing" as I expected.

Once I came back I got a software called Mediainfo (free from SourceForge), so as to check bit-rates, fps etc (great simple software). And I was pretty upset to find out that most of my videos are in 25fps (NOT 24fps or 23.976fps as I expected) and have bit-rates ranging from 15 to 20mbps. Is this normal??? I mean where's the 100mbps? or at least the 50mbps? Am I missing something?

So , how can I make those videos be capturing in TRUE 24fps with bit-rates as high as 40, 50, or even 86mbps, or even higher???

Many Thanks in advance for your advices and suggestions.

GH13 Concert and Event settings 24p with file spanning https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/852/gh13-concert-and-event-settings-24p-with-file-spanning Sun, 04 Sep 2011 17:22:19 +0000 DrDave 852@/talks/discussions Although not always high art, I get a lot of requests to video a show, concert, event, wedding, etc., and these events typically are indoors, with poor or varied lighting.
Sometimes these events run several hours. And for these events, I sometimes prefer the IQ of the GH13 over the GH2, at ISO 400-1000.
My requirements are:
24p for easy editing in Premiere and others. Premiere offers real time playback and effects with Mercury engine.
Reasonably good IQ, regardless of the bitrate
Minimal pulsing (some ppl don't see it but it drives me nuts)
Fine grain at ISO 800 and usable 1600
File spanning, in case I need continuous coverage
Smooth transitions in shadows, given the limitations of the camera.
Ability to use F/5.6 on a sharp lens in places that have good lighting
Good IQ and grain with lens wide open in bad lighting.
Plays back in camera so the highlights ("overs") can be checked, and also IQ checked on a monitor.
Static scene bit rate 0f 20-24, typical of events and shows, or stages where there are a lot of fixed objects or open space
Works on a Transcend 32gb Class 10 card or better

First off, I would like to acknowledge all those who have done the real work, including Vitaliy, cbrandin, lpowell, blackout, rigs, and many more.
Basis line: my starting point was the BP patch and lpowell's amazing high reliabilty patch. The HR patch has really served me well. It file spans reasonably well, has great IQ. It does not of course have 24p (hence the reliable part). The BP patch is also great, and is 24p, but did not span reliably. Another issue is that high bitrate patches often give low rates in low light. And theatre lighting with F/5.6 would occasionally lock up at 24p.
Along came the rigs patch, which gives HIGH rates in low light and static scenes. My static scene bit rates doubled. Also, pulsing in shadow areas is minimized.I made three changes to this patch. First, I used the suggestion to raise the buffer to 84. Next, I lowered the overall bitrate in the regular section to 36 and the minimum to 22. I found that I could not see a big difference in static scene rates of 24 as opposed to the 33 I was getting in Rigs. Also, after a certain point it seemed that noise in shadow areas became slightly more visible after the bitrate exceeded 24.
So far, in three days of testing, quality is good, file spanning is good and I get a solid 24 minutes per 4 gig chunk on my card--the reasonably priced Transcend 32gb. Mileage plus.

Like all 24p patches, I suspect it will crash, so those who really need reliability should go for lpowell's high reliability patch. As with all patches, use at your own risk.
I'm sure those better versed in the subtleties of the patch can make a better one, and I welcome suggestions.

The zip file has the most conservative version of the patch. I will try to bump the bit rate up ten percent with the same stability, and also work on possibly a GOP of 8 or 6.]]>

So just import it you say!
Except there's a problem: You can't!

Sites like B&H are not allowed to sell it to Europe and I've even spoken with Sony themselves and they said that they can't import an NTSC version.
Which means that this thread goes out with the question: Does anybody here have any idea of how to import an NTSC version to Europe?

Of course, with a contact they could buy it there, but to me it just feels like there's got to be an easier way!

So this thread is dedicated to finding a solution! Of course, if one knew how to hack it into getting 24p, that could work too...]]>
