    For this to work, they might need to ban surgical masks. They are very popular in China and Japan, not just for pollution but health and fashion.

    For health such mask becomes useless very quick, after this it becomes more health hazard then help.

    As for how they help - not so much. Do not worry, guys who write software account for this and many other things. For example all top solutions will have option to use your walking motion for big help in recognition.
