IFA 2024 in Berlin

So this year IFA was a 100 years old show and I had a personal anniversary of 30 years at IFA (1994 to 2024). I recall the DVD-Video and 5.1 surround audio days with great joy.

At the north entrance they had a Albert Einstain hologram wishing you a welcome.

My son (10 years old) won a small Jackery power pack after spinning the lottery wheel (150 euro retail value).

It's seems to be the norm now to get some swag you either had to spin the wheel or subscribe to the companys social media pages (Instagram). But Samsung had again taking it to the next level with their crazy mazes of collecton points to get small gifts and then an even longer line to participate in a tombola lottery.

So being a Lumix G user I headed to the Panasonic booth to get some camera exitment. And found this: They displayed the four colors of the S9 shutterless "toy" and a unispired GH7 mounted on a tripod. With some hired dude - confessing he was a Nikon shooter himself - doing the presentation. What a show!

At least Panasonic did have a small booth open to the general public. Last year they had a closed dealer/media thing only (in 2023 I had a media access).

So, being a heavy DJI user with recent purchases like the Pocket 3 camera and DJI Mini 4 Pro drone as well as the assorted Mic2 and RS2/3 gimbals I went to the DJI booth to look a the new NEO launching the day before the IFA opening. It's like a mini FPV drone which you can operate with virtual joysticks directly on the phone app. So at 199 euros I head to Media Markt in Berlin and got a new toy.

The leaked Action 5 was not around, I think we might see more DJI news at the IBC convention during the next weekend.

At IFA it's always fun to look at the smaller tv crews doing the rounds at the show floor and check out their gear etc.

There was a lot of robotics. Humanoids and dogs mostly.

This year there was some more companies for creative stuff usually not present at IFA. Like Hollyland with their small wireless mics and Tilta.

Tilta showed of a new mech z-axis stabilizer called the Mini Hydra Alien. This is not out yet, probably october and can be set to work with different smaller cameras. Like the Pocket 3 in the show floor sample.

Some photos from the DJI booth which showcased their full range from drones to action cameras. With the rumours about DJI launching a new interchangeable lens camera floating around, as well as the leaked Action 5 Pro their will be more news in the next weeks.

GoPro has not been at IFA since approx 2014 as I recall. Maybe cost cuts? Strange since this year GoPro beat the next DJI Action with a few weeks.
