Pentax is barely alive, but presents new APS-C flagship prototype
  • image

RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. is pleased to announce a preview showing of the PENTAX K mount digital SLR camera at the "PENTAX Meeting 100th Anniversary Special" scheduled to be held Japan from September 21st.

PENTAX K mount digital SLR camera

    • Model name: to be announced later
    • Flagship model of our K-mount digital SLR camera equipped with an APS-C size image sensor
    • Currently under development for market launch in 2020
    • Price: Not decided

Situation for Pentax is horrible, as they are alone who continue to develop SLR cameras (except top sport oriented models Nikon and Canon are mostly done).

Expect horrible video features, as usual for any Pentax camera.

  • Inside Pentax situation is horrible, whole company can close even before September (or sold or restructured with big cuts).

  • New stuff

    • New optical viewfinder, featuring a redesigned pentaprism made of high-refraction glass “that has never been used in a camera before.”
    • Improved body design and grip
    • Optimized control system, with an AF selection joystick and larger buttons than the KP
    • Newly-developed “smooth action shutter unit” with a very “light and smooth” action.
    • Large LCD panel on the top plate
    • Brand new sensor and image processor that promise improved image quality across the ISO range, but especially at high ISO. Minimum ISO will be 100.

  • On August 21, Ricoh Imaging updated the special content "New APS-C flagship model latest information" on the web page. "Thoughts in New APS-C" (Part 2) has been released. Same as last time, Wakashiro, who is in charge of product planning, is the author of update.

The second content highlights the concept of synchronization, "looking through the viewfinder and taking pictures." The first time was to show the Kodawari to the Pentaprism, but this time the creation of the finder part and the mounting of the eye sensor are taken up.

Compared with the K-3 II (released in 2015), the new model has a viewfinder frame that is about 3.2 mm wider than the rear monitor so that the rear monitor has place for a nose when looking through the viewfinder.
