Live Planet, Inc., creator of next-generation media technologies, today announced the full-system release of its game-changing, end-to-end virtual reality (VR) video solution, the Live Planet VR System. In development over the last three years, the system is a powerful, fully-integrated solution for creating immersive video experiences, enabling anyone to easily and quickly capture and distribute dramatically better stereoscopic VR video easier than any other method. This complete system includes the full integration of best-of-breed VR camera, cloud and applications, delivering VR video live or recorded to all VR headsets and 360° platforms (e.g., Samsung Gear VR, Oculus, Google Daydream, YouTube, etc.).

Live Planet's VR System enables anyone to easily and quickly unleash their vision for immersive video experiences and define new categories of VR application, expanding the visual mediums within and beyond television and film. The system makes it simple, practical, and affordable to create and deliver stereoscopic VR and 360° video. Creators can:

  • CAPTURE picture-perfect, real-time automatically-stitched stereoscopic footage optimized for comfortable viewing for livestream or later use with the Live Planet VR Camera.
  • STORE and manage their uploaded VR video easily and affordably from anywhere with the Live Planet VR Cloud.
  • DELIVER on-demand VR video and live VRcasts to audiences publicly or privately, even over mobile networks, to both Live Planet VR apps and social platforms.

"The vision of "Live Planet VR" is as the name suggests: to allow instantaneous immersion in the experiences that catalogue being human," said Halsey Minor, founder and CEO of Live Planet. "VR video is more than just a new medium and those who have tried VR instinctively know something extraordinary is afoot --- the capacity to share our lives, the arts, sports, celebrations and tragedies in profound new ways that are not mediated by others but directly experienced. Where the power of television leaves off, VR begins. Until now, creating VR video has been hindered by poor quality and insane complexity. Live Planet has put the industry's best VR experience in the hands of mere mortals, enabling the innovation and growth the industry has so far lacked. Just as pundits have written off VR for its experiential issues and complexity, along comes the Live Planet VR System to change the game."

While VR point solutions --- including various headsets and cameras --- have been around for the last few years, VR video has yet to take off as a medium because no one has focused on solving the full range of production and distribution challenges. As a result, it has been very difficult to easily, quickly, reliably, and affordably produce VR video experiences at scale, in particular for live distribution. Technical hurdles the Live Planet VR System has now overcome include:

  1. Capturing footage at the highest possible visual quality, stereoscopically, and in a manner consistent with the natural characteristics of human vision, providing a comfortable experience with no dizziness or nausea so viewers may dwell in content experiences for long periods of time.
  2. Generating automatic, perfectly-stitched footage in real time on the capture device, critical for live applications.
  3. Delivering all footage, whether live or recorded, reliably and of the highest quality over dynamic network conditions --- including mobile networks --- to the myriad VR and 360° platforms, each of which has its own specifications.

Live Planet has invested in addressing these technological hurdles, creating innovations that handle them "under the hood", enabling the VR video industry to move forward with push-button simple solutions.

Live Planet uses the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 supercomputer on a module to stitch together 16 different image sensors to output 4K video at 30 frames per second --- all inside the camera, saving creators days and dollars in post production time and expense. With its camera and cloud in beta with VR enthusiasts over the last year, the VR System now enables creators and application developers to "share their world," from transporting audiences to the stage with their favorite band, witnessing a Hail Mary from the 50 yard line, or attending Tim Cook's next Apple WWDC keynote --- the creative potential of the VR video medium is now available to anyone.

"VR provides a unique opportunity to tell immersive stories, but creating and editing high-quality scenes comes with its own set of challenges," said David Weinstein, Director of VR at NVIDIA. "With the NVIDIA Jetson TX2, Live Planet simplifies the process with a system that provides stunning immersive environments, delivering a VR experience like no other."

The Live Planet VR System is available for purchase at www.liveplanet.net for $9,950 USD. The purchase price includes the stereoscopic VR camera, $1,000 credit toward VR Cloud storage and delivery services (additional services are priced a la carte), a premium monopod, app licenses, platinum support, and a custom camera case.

Create stunning, professional 360/180° 2D and 3D VR video with the compact EVO 3D/2D Convertible 360/180° VR Camera from Insta360. The clever folding design allows you to shoot in two different formats: record 360° 2D video when the camera is folded closed with the lenses on either side, and when it is open flat with the lenses on the same side you can record 180° 3D video. The high-resolution EVO records up to 5.7K30 video and 18MP photos.

When in 360° 2D mode, the EVO utilizes Insta360's FlowState digital image stabilization, which compensates for shake captured in your videos and provides you with smoother footage. Basic gyro stabilization is used when in 180° 3D mode, which helps stabilize some minor shakes.

In the 180° 3D shooting position the heavy-duty hinge is held open with a locking switch, and a quick release latch holds it closed in 360° mode. There are separate video and photo shutter buttons for quick and easy capture. Video is stored on a built-in microSD card and is transferred through its micro-USB port. The camera is also charged via the same micro-USB port.

ROKiT, a revolutionary telecommunications company, today introduced its line of five mobile handsets, including three smartphones, to market. At an event hosted this morning in downtown Los Angeles, company founders John Paul DeJoria and Jonathan Kendrick announced that the handsets would be officially available for purchase online across the U.S. exclusively at ROKiT.com and Walmart.com starting today.

image

At ROKiT we like to say we’re a people-first company, because John Paul and I firmly believe in building a brand that prioritizes making a difference in the world over merely selling a product”

Unlike any other phone brand, ROKiT is shaking up the mobile landscape by pairing its phones with vital life services like family telemedicine, legal counsel, and more. The collection also includes two smartphone models with the best glasses-free 3D technology on the market and a vast library of exclusive 2D and 3D live action and animated content. These unrivaled entertainment and lifestyle packages come packed into premium mobile handsets available at a fraction of the cost of competitors.

“We started ROKiT with a mission to provide people with well-being and security, and offer a realistic entry point to top notch technology. It has been incredible to see our vision realized as people react to the phones,” said John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of ROKiT. “Not only have they been blown away by the glasses-free 3D experience on the smartphones, but they can’t believe just how much they’re getting for such a reasonable price. It was important to us to be the first phone on the market with such an extensive life service and entertainment offering that will surely change lives.”

ROKiT smartphones offer endless entertainment through its ROK Entertainment platform, which includes access to subscription-based streaming television, music, and games. Two of ROKiT’s smartphone models, the ROKiT IO 3D and IO Pro 3D, feature stereoscopic screen technology meticulously crafted to provide a crisp, vibrant 3D image and eliminate previous barriers to 3D’s success. To ensure a seamless experience for users, the phones also enable access to premium, quality-controlled 3D content at the touch of a button through the ROKFLiX 3D app, an expansive catalogue of feature films and custom content created by ROKiT Studios, the company’s 3D and animation studio in France.

ROKiT’s life-changing bundles are rooted in providing health and protection for the whole family. ROK Life Services come pre-loaded on select models in ROKiT’S phone range, kicking off with a year’s free access to 24/7 telemedicine and discounted pharmaceuticals, with roadside assistance, family legal services, and accidental death, burial and cremation, and identity theft insurance available at low-cost monthly rates.

“At ROKiT we like to say we’re a people-first company, because John Paul and I firmly believe in building a brand that prioritizes making a difference in the world over merely selling a product,” said Jonathan Kendrick, co-founder and chairman of ROKiT. “Today marks a massive milestone as we connect people with what they need and what they love by officially selling our phones globally. We have lots more in store and are eager to continue this momentum from here.”

  • ROKiT IO 3D ($199.99) – Mostly-loaded 3D smartphone
  • ROKiT IO Pro 3D ($299.99) – Fully-loaded 3D smartphone

ROKiT phones are available to purchase in the U.S. at ROKiT.com and Walmart.com and will be rolling out to the UK next month via Amazon.co.uk.

zSpace, makers of innovative computing solutions designed to power the global delivery of spatial content, today announces the availability of its all-new CES 2019 Innovation Award-winning zSpace laptop PC. The zSpace laptop is the first portable Windows PC to break the screen barrier between users and VR content by creating a multi-dimensional environment that leaps out of the screen. Featuring patented 3D screen technology and lightweight glasses the zSpace laptop is an ideal solution for fostering creativity, collaboration and education by allowing users to interact with VR content in a more flexible and immersive environment that doesn't hinder spatial awareness or block peripheral vision. When not used for VR content, the laptop serves as a powerful traditional Windows 10 PC.

"The computing experience has mostly remained unchanged since the introduction of the mouse and touchscreen in the 1980s. With zSpace technology we are totally reinventing the capabilities of personal computers by eliminating the barrier between our eyes and the content we interact with, allowing for complete immersion in games, and incredibly interactive apps for education, e-commerce, enterprise and more," said Paul Kellenberger, CEO, zSpace. "Our zSpace laptop PC packs all of the awesome capabilities afforded by our award-winning desktop into a cost-effective and compact, take-anywhere form factor."

Members of the media may experience first-hand how the zSpace Laptop combines elements of AR and VR to create lifelike experiences that inspire curiosity, create engagement, and deepen understanding at Showstoppers at CES 2019.

Out of the box, the zSpace laptop comes equipped with a set of specially designed glasses that enable depth perception of virtual content, and a stylus boasting 6-degrees of freedom that allows users to pick up items on the screen and move them naturally in 3D space. Those two items, combined with the laptop's built-in tracking sensors allows the zSpace technology to track head and hand movements and dynamically correct the viewing perspective in full HD.

Adobe Acquires Allegorithmic, the Leader in 3D Editing and Authoring for Gaming and Entertainment Wednesday, January 23, 2019 8:55 am EST Industry Standard for 3D Textures and Materials Behind AAA Gaming Titles and Award-Winning Movies Coming to Creative Cloud

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that it has acquired Allegorithmic, makers of Substance, the industry standard for 3D textures and material creation in game and video post-production. By combining Allegorithmic’s Substance 3D design tools with Creative Cloud’s industry-leading imaging, video and motion graphics tools, Adobe will empower video game creators, VFX artists working in film and television, designers and marketers to deliver the next generation of immersive experiences.

In the near future, we will live in a world where real and virtual creations blend. As brands look to compete and differentiate themselves, compelling, interactive experiences enabled by 3D content, VR and AR will become more critical to their future success. 3D content is already transforming traditional workflows into fully immersive and digital ones that save time, reduce cost and open new creative horizons. With the acquisition of Allegorithmic, Adobe takes a powerful step forward in adding expanded 3D and immersive workflows to Creative Cloud and provides Adobe’s core customer base of designers a new set of tools for 3D projects.

“We are seeing an increasing appetite from customers to leverage 3D technology across media, entertainment, retail and marketing to design and deliver fully immersive experiences,” said Scott Belsky, chief product officer and executive vice president, Creative Cloud, Adobe. “Creative Cloud is the creativity platform for all and Substance products are a natural complement to existing Creative Cloud apps that are used in the creation of immersive content, including Photoshop, Dimension, After Effects and Project Aero.”

Allegorithmic is based in France and has a diverse customer base across gaming, film and television, ecommerce, retail, automotive, architecture, design and advertising industries, including leading creative brands like Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, BMW, Ikea, Louis Vuitton, Foster + Partners and more. Allegorithmic is the recognized leader in 3D material and texture authoring for most AAA1 gaming franchises, including Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and Forza, and the tools used in the making of award-winning movies, including Blade Runner 2049, Pacific Rim Uprising and Tomb Raider.

“Allegorithmic and Adobe share the same passion for bringing inspiring technologies to creators,” said Sebastien Deguy, CEO and founder, Allegorithmic. “We are excited to join the team, bring together the strength of Allegorithmic’s industry-leading tools with the Creative Cloud platform and transform the way businesses create powerful, interactive content and experiences.”

Adobe’s strong track record of successfully integrating acquisitions will help further accelerate Allegorithmic’s product roadmap and go-to-market and extend its reach among enterprise, SMB and individual customers. Allegorithmic CEO and founder, Sebastien Deguy will take a leadership role in Adobe’s broader 3D and immersive design efforts as vice president, 3D and Immersive, reporting into Scott Belsky.

Allegorithmic tools are already offered as a subscription service to individuals and enterprise customers, and in the future Adobe will focus on expanding the availability of Allegorithmic tools via subscription. Later this year, Adobe will announce an update on new offerings that will bring the full power of Allegorithmic technology and Adobe Creative Cloud together.

JK Imaging Ltd., the worldwide licensee for KODAK PIXPRO Digital Cameras and Devices, today announced the next generation KODAK PIXPRO 4KVR360 Camera, a compact, single-body design to target the rapidly growing 360° VR video consumer market.

The 4KVR360 adopts a minimalist and stylish approach to an all-in-one 360° VR camera, with two 4K fixed focus lenses housed on either side of the futuristic camera body. Each lens is designed to work in tandem, to capture and automatically stitch full 360° 4K video* and easily upload 360° photos and videos to Facebook™ and 360° interactive videos to YouTube™ via the camera’s smart device app on the go.

“The 4KVR360 will join our award winning 360° VR camera line up and is the third 360° camera added to the KODAK PIXPRO portfolio,” said Mariame Cissé, Marketing Director for JK Imaging Ltd. in EMEA. “We are continuing to innovate and lead the interactive 360° VR camera market and are committed to providing multiple devices and options to not only consumers, but also to professional content creators when it comes to choosing a quality 360° VR camera based on their specific needs.”

JK Imaging is no latecomer to the 360° VR party and is considered one of the industry pioneers to bring one of the first 360° VR cameras to market over 2 years ago. As the VR market continues to take the tech sector by storm, JK Imaging is positioned as one of the leading companies to watch. Armed with world-class, hardware and software engineers, their dedicated product planning continues to push the envelope and evolve the 360° VR space.

Award winning hardware is not the company’s only strong suit. JK Imaging takes a very unique approach, by not only developing a streamlined process to capture and share VR videos directly to social media, but also offers value-add accessories and software with their cameras, which is another key differentiator from other companies in the VR camera space. All KODAK PIXPRO 360° cameras in the line include complimentary PIXPRO Editing and Stitching software for both Mac™ and PCs and include an assortment of useful camera accessories and mounts with each camera bundle at no extra cost.

With more and more consumers becoming increasingly tech savvy and personally engaging on a day-to-day basis with 360° videos on their social media feeds and more, they are looking for not only better video quality solutions, but also easier set up and simplified options to multi-camera rigs and countless hours of editing and stitching.

The 4KVR360 features two 20MP CMOS sensors and uses a Micro SD card (up to 128GB, class 10 or higher) to record 360° photos and videos. The 4KVR360 camera incorporates Wi-Fi® and NFC® compatibility for smart device apps to control and view the camera’s feed remotely. The 4KVR360 also features Bluetooth® compatibility in an optional remote control device that can be worn or mounted to the camera’s optional accessories for even easier control for the camera.

JK Imaging anticipates availability of the new 4KVR360 in the first quarter of 2017. The 4KVR360 base model will retail for 499€ and the company will continue to provide their customers with optional bundles that will include useful accessories and software designed to work in tandem with the 4KVR360 camera
