Sony Rx0 hack https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23594/sony-rx0-hack Sat, 29 Feb 2020 09:39:07 +0000 gypsea 23594@/talks/discussions Hi We have a project where we remotely control and power Sony Rx0 cameras. We have discovered that the Sony Rx0 has an internal RTC battery that goes flat after a few months. When the battery goes flat the camera requires a language and date and time reset. This stops our remote control connection and we have to then physically access the camera. We need to modify the firmware so that it does not require the language and time reset when the internal battery goes flat. All other settings are still stored and the control works fine after we reset the language, timezone and date time. I followed the links to the Sony source code distribution. Do you think it would be possible for me to make these changes. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sony X800H TV https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/25188/sony-x800h-tv Sat, 06 Feb 2021 10:53:57 +0000 Eno 25188@/talks/discussions I saw it in the store and I fell in love with it's natural image!

The generic name of the TV is Sony X800H, my model KD-65XH8096 being a European designation of the 65 inch with a certain color and shape of feet.

A detailed review can be read here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800h

Things that delighted me:

  • Image profiles are good "out of the box" but the image can be improved to near perfection after careful calibration; it is actually a pleasure to watch any kind of content on it!
  • It has an IPS screen with a large viewing angle,
  • The screen is flicker free, with backlighting white LEDs (not blue), an aspect that is easy to overlooked but very important for eyes and health!
  • It has a low latency of 10 ms and supports 4K 60hz in RGB mode, being very good to use as a PC monitor,
  • The matrix is very fine, pixels are observed at a distance greater than 50 cm from the screen,
  • As a PC monitor I use it at minimum brightness so I have no clouding problems (black is very uniform),
  • The sound is surprisingly good, the voice is clear and well defined and it offers a little bass,
  • When used as a TV, scaling the image to lower resolutions is surprisingly good due to the powerful image processing.
  • It has plenty of inputs and all HDMI ones are high speed 2.0.

Things I love less:

  • With an IPS panel, the ~1100:1 contrast is mediocre, the black is not as deep as it is in VA panels (where the viewing angles are smaller) or oled (which develops burn in over time),
  • Clouding on black can be seen at high brightness levels,
  • Due to the large size of the screen, you can see a small shift in color and brightness between the area where you stand perpendicular to the other edge; this small shift in color and brightness is visible only up close and only on evenly light shades, it's NOT noticeable in pictures, movies, games, etc.
  • A few days after the acquisition, a pixel remained hot (lit), but due to the fine matrix I normally do not notice it unless I look for it carefully or on uniformly dark backgrounds,
  • The corners have a very small vignetting,
  • Sony menus are confusing, poorly structured and the manual (non-existent in physical format) does not detail much of the functions described and is as poorly structured as the menus. It was "a lot of fun" to make it work in 4K 60hz RGB format, as the input had to be manually set to support this mode (nonsensical cause all HDMI ports support HDMI 2.0 high bandwidth) and only 2 of the image profiles "Game "or" Graphics" are sited for PC use (the rest of the profiles do not support RGB or 444); and obviously in the manual it was almost impossible to find accurate information, but luckily we have the internet. :)
  • A BUG: every time I close the TV while the computer is running, when reopening the screen it enters in 4:2:0 mode until I change the picture profile up from "Game "or" Graphics" to "Cinema" or above, then scroll down again to "Game "or" Graphics" profiles. I bet this bug can be fix in a firmware update if Sony acknowledges the problem and has the good will to fix it.

In conclusion:

I'd like it to be perfect, no TV really is, especially in the more affordable segment. After the effort to connect it to the PC in RGB mode, a careful image calibration and ignoring the small quirks it has, I honestly say that I'm very satisfied with it! It's absolutely fantastic to watch up close: movies, games, images, etc., on a 65-inch screen (a cinema experience). If I had to choose a TV in this price category again, I would buy it without hesitation!

The reason why it is impossible to do double frame rate 60i to 60p deinterlace with some cameras https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24855/the-reason-why-it-is-impossible-to-do-double-frame-rate-60i-to-60p-deinterlace-with-some-cameras Wed, 09 Dec 2020 06:34:57 +0000 apefos 24855@/talks/discussions I found a software which can do double frame rate 60i to 60p deinterlace. It is called Avidemux. It uses Yadif Field deinterlace and transform each field in a frame so the 60i footage turns into 60p after deinterlace. The quality is pretty good.

But after deinterlace 60i footage from Sony Nex-F3 and from GH2 I only got 30p, each two sequential frames are identical in the 60p file. The reason is: the cameras sensor output is only 30p recorded wraped in 60i, so it is impossible to get 60p because there is not 60 different fields in the recorded file, there are only 30 different fields.

But if you want to transform 60i into 30p the results are pretty good.

Sony Makes New Camera Software Development Kit https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23517/sony-makes-new-camera-software-development-kit- Tue, 11 Feb 2020 16:42:00 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 23517@/talks/discussions

Sony today has announced the release of a new software development kit (SDK) that enables third party developers and integrators to access control of Sony cameras.

Sony, the industry leader in both full-frame and mirrorless cameras, is releasing the SDK based on extensive interest in their camera lineup from commercial customers.

"The customer's voice is absolutely critical to all aspects of our business," said Neal Manowitz, Deputy President of Sony Imaging Products and Solutions Americas. "After receiving many requests, we're excited to finally be able to open our platform in this manner. Companies will now be able to custom develop applications to control our cameras remotely, allowing them to take full advantage of the many innovations in Sony's lineup including industry-leading autofocus, shooting speeds and much more. Ultimately, this gives professional clients the ability to create new and different imaging experiences unlike anything that's been done before."

With the new SDK, key camera controls and still image data captured will be available for remote access, including adjustment of camera settings, shutter release and live view monitoring. These control capabilities are appealing to the workflow of a wide variety of industries including security, entertainment and many others.

One of the companies that have a high expectation of Sony's SDK is Telemetrics Inc., a company that specializes in robotics and camera control systems, selling complete packages including a weather resistant housing unit on a remotely controlled pan/tilt head compatible with select Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. Telemetrics, Inc. sells to a wide variety of clients including broadcast, production, sports and education companies.

"Combining our expertise in robotics and camera control with the impressive capabilities of Sony's Alpha camera technology will allow us to create some especially unique solutions for capturing live sports entertainment, which include the newly introduced PT-CP-S5 Compact Pan/Tilt Head and the WP-HOU-A9 Camera Housing unit," said Michael Cuomo, Vice President of Telemetrics, Inc. "We've been thrilled with the results and are extremely excited at the potential for future integration with our systems."

Initially, the Camera Remote SDK will support Alpha 7R IV and Alpha 9 II bodies, with plans to gradually expand the lineup of supported cameras hereafter. The Camera Remote SDK is available now and can be downloaded from here.

The current Camera Remote API's provision will be closed following this new release of the new Camera Remote SDK and its support will be terminated.

Sony A9II in September: It makes sense for Sony to release a new A9 successor as early as possible to make the camera widely available and tested for PRO’s who want to use this camera at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. No specs are rumored yet but the sensor is said to be a “revolution” rather than an evolution.

Guys whom I talked said that release can be only in the fall at best.

But, many Sony cameras have multiple settings that can alter the color and look in camera. There are literally thousands of combinations, so finding one that pleases is difficult and time-consuming. EOSHD Pro Color is a list of in-camera settings to make Sony color have the pleasing look of Canon color (which many praise). It is not a Lut. The in-camera adjustments are thus made prior to compression, and can be much more precise and perhaps less degrading than those made in post using 8bit highly-compressed video. So, here is a video shot with those settings. The main subjects are flowers - nature's color palette. There are greens, blues, reds, oranges, whites, yellows. And no color-correction was done in post. This is also my first cat video.

Oh, and even though this was a hothouse and I was shooting for a hour or more, the camera did not overheat.

Issue: Noise in the A6500 :( https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20821/issue-noise-in-the-a6500- Mon, 05 Nov 2018 12:41:19 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 20821@/talks/discussions Yesterday I made cinematography in a short film in which I used this camera accompanied by a Meike 25mm f1.8 and a Rokkor 58mm 1.2 with the profile PP5 and the Gamma S-Log3 I did not touch anything of the rest of the configuration, 1,50 ISO 1,600 only for a shot and in the rest at ISO 800, and 1/50 with a WB at 2600K because the director asked for a cold atmosphere between blue and gray.

I was surprised cause that it produced noise in both circumstances, we had illuminated using two points of light and to try although I did not use other profiles, I changed momentarily only for to see the scene behavior of the noise and in the other modes there was noise. I get a lot of attention because this camera handles sensitivity well and I made a short time inside a bus with very low light, in fact we only used a light that came from the roof of the same bus and a small LED that I used for filling using more quirky ISO's around 4,000 and the noise was minimal.

Is there any reason for it? I let a clip of the short with a gradding.

    Thanks in advance.
