Our Lady Peace - Documentary Shot with GH2 & Mysteron Patch https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5741/our-lady-peace-documentary-shot-with-gh2-mysteron-patch Thu, 10 Jan 2013 16:13:35 +0000 Fontee 5741@/talks/discussions Hey Guys,

Thought I'd share some footage with you guys from a project in the Summer. I shot this BTS doc for Our Lady Peace's latest music video "As Fast as You Can". This is just for the community's speculation on the camera/patch.

There is some HVX-200 footage intermixed, and maybe 5 shots from a 5D - but other than that, the whole thing was done with two GH2's on Driftwood's Mysteron patch. There is also a bunch of 16 & 32mm film footage shot with antique lenses, but it should be pretty easily identifiable.

Skip to the 5:55 mark if you need to see the most exciting / visually pleasing content.

It was graded mostly with Synthetic Aperture & Shian's Color Ghears.

This is a very short short. I'm not a plus member on Vimeo, so you'll have to click through and watch it over there at Vimeo in HD.

I've made this on my first visit to one of the 22 islands in the archipelago here - the Red Island. I wanted to see what kind of footage can I come up with while going somewhere for the first time, on foot, with no extra gear, just handheld camera.

Lumix GH2 with Lumix 14-140mm + ColorGHear.

Honest criticism is welcome, better yet mandatory :)

Strange Flickering/Banding? Issue https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5682/strange-flickeringbanding-issue Sun, 06 Jan 2013 22:59:18 +0000 bostonmike 5682@/talks/discussions I've heard of a banding issue with the GH2, but what is really is odd is that I've had this camera for over a year and used it in every lighting situation. I have never experienced this until last week. Sure I've had a little noise when there isn't proper light, but never anything like this.

You can see it really bad on the statue image, but you can also see it on the parking meter image if you look towards the center of the video...and this was lit well. The odd thing is I took a similar video of the statue, but zoomed out a little and no bad effect. I also took some shots the same night in similar conditions as the statue shot and they came out a little noisy, but no unsightly bands or flickering strips like this. These effects are happening with different lenses, so its not a lens issue.

The only two things I've been doing differently lately is using a B+W ND .6 filter (had it on during the parking meter video) and after all this time I just discovered the Tele EX button (which according to the manual does not degrade image quality). I can't image the ND .6 filter would push the camera to produce this banding, especially in broad daylight.

I have used the Terraquake hack since I bought this camera and its been so good that I haven't really had any need to change it. I never mess around with the ISO. I always light well enough to keep it down to 160, or switch to a faster lens when needed instead of raising ISO.

Oh well, going to head back to the same spot in a few days and take video without ND filter and with Tele EX off and see if this is causing the issue. Wasn't sure if anyone else was familiar with this.

Hacked GH2 Works GREAT for Corporate Videos! MY EXAMPLES https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5669/hacked-gh2-works-great-for-corporate-videos-my-examples Sat, 05 Jan 2013 09:04:04 +0000 Luke 5669@/talks/discussions Hey guys!

Been watching this forum for a long time and decided it's time to share some of what I've been doing with Vitaliy and Driftwood's magic patches.

Here's a corporate interview style video shot using the older Orion v4 patch I think it was.

And here's a more recent one with Cluster v6 Drew Net.

Both videos were done with green screens, two fluro lights and a reflector for a basic three-point lighting setup on the subject, also using a rode lapel mic recording to a Zoom H1. Lens is just the standard 14-42mm.

I am simply blown away with the results. I've made sure to donate in return. Thanks guys!

GoPro Hero 2 - Time laspe at Sand Dunes National Park, CO. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5695/gopro-hero-2-time-laspe-at-sand-dunes-national-park-co. Mon, 07 Jan 2013 12:24:07 +0000 solarwnz 5695@/talks/discussions Hello all!

This past September I took a trip out to Colorado to visit my friend June. We drove down from Boulder to Salida to hike at the Sand Dunes National park. The Sand Dunes are deceptively big. They don't look it but once you get up close you see that they are HUGE! Before hiking up (which was the most difficult and fun hike I ever experienced) I set my GoPro Hero 2 on a small Joby Gorrillapod by our camp site and set the time lapse feature to take a photo every 2 seconds. This very short video of the sunset is all 2700 plus pictures - which was about an hour and half. You'll me in the last few frames. :-)

Last month I purchased the newest GoPro Hero 3 which sports much better low light. I am going to do another time lapse around my town to see how the new model handles sunsets.

Anyway, I thought I would share this Sand Dune Sunset video with everyone. Enjoy!

Amazing traditional event caught by balazer's "Cake v2.3" https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5673/amazing-traditional-event-caught-by-balazers-cake-v2.3 Sat, 05 Jan 2013 18:27:20 +0000 tetakpatak 5673@/talks/discussions Breathtaking, since ca 400 years traditional Santa Claus processions take part every year in many localities in the central region of Switzerland. This is just raw-edited video, to transmit the impression of such events. As we are very international forum here, please let know if there is something similar going on in your region?

Particulary this event took part in the small village on the Lucerne lake called Beckenried.

This was the most difficult video editing in my life: I have kind of slow PC right. It is fast enough for hard audio editing, but it just can not handle GH2+Cake v2.3 bitrates (thanks, @balazer!) of average 66mbps reaching nearly 100mbps peak bitrate. So, I wasnt able to playback in the editing software at all, after 1-2 seconds the PC would struggle nearby freezing. Maybe it's not the PC but very simple editing software who is cause of the problem, no idea. So, I've wrote down timecodes of the excerpts to be used and edited them just "on feeling" and routine....

This lovely, little and beautiful event is much smaller than the famous, big one organized in the city called Küssnacht. The circumstances were nearly impossible for recording: temperature -10°C / 14°F and so much crowd that I could only strech the tripod on its full length and keep it with folded legs on my hip. Better than handheld, though....

Some details about the content of the recorded event are written in the video text, directly on YouTube. And here are few liks about this kind of traditional event in the region, if somebody interested:

I shot 10 seconds (which now might have been too long) at each ISO value, with the body cap on. Settings were:
- Driftwood's "GOPStoppa" GOP1 176mb hack.
- White balance at 5600K
- Shutter at 50

I've upped the mids in After Effects quite a bit.

The major surprise was 320, which looks awful... Shot a second one, but had the same results! Very surprising...

Different worlds. http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshhw2jI4Wit937p1Sz4

I'm also posting the "official" Youtube link below for convenience, but wanted you all to see the WSHH link, specifically because of the comments in the forums. I never expected anything like the wonderful and supportive critiquing and comments we find on Personal View, regarding artistic choices and IQ comments, but the comments on the Hip Hop forum reveal a totally alien (to me) way of thinking and engaging with others. And there are pages of them; somewhat hilarious.

In case it matters, this was again a combination of my AF100 for static shots, with the GH2 in a Dicapac bag for the underwater shots. I also suspect the hit count reported by WSHH is somewhat over-inflated, compared with the (more realistic) numbers on the Youtube page.

A+A's Wedding Highlights | GH Cameras https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5564/a-as-wedding-highlights-gh-cameras Sun, 23 Dec 2012 12:31:27 +0000 pchristoph 5564@/talks/discussions
Weddings are challenging. The GH cameras are my field weapons of choice. Speedy setups, quality of image, and peoples ability to relax around the gear we shoot on. For this shoot I used 3 GH2's and the camera that started it all for me - the Gh1. I employed mostly Takumar glass, with the wide angle stuff shot on the 12mm SLR Magic. I really likethe asthetic of the 12mm magic, but she's a contrasty girl compared to the Takumar glass. With a little help in post - everything cut together nicely though. These are great tools. Once you learn their strengths and weaknesses - then the best part of knowing your gear is being able to forget about it, and instead keep your attention on finding the story taking place around you.

Monopods, Glidecam HD4000, PBPocket Dolly, and manfrotto sticks. LPowell's Flowmotion 2.02and 75mbit reliability settings were used in the cameras respectively. Post done in FPX. Continued thanks to Vitally for unlocking these cameras potential, and the pioneers who test and produce the settings we need for our work. And to Driftwood and LPowell to whom I've used the most settings. Merry Christmas to everyone here at personal-view.com. May there be peace on earth, and good will toward men.
