In the last 3 years I've been involved in documenting the oral traditions of a very small ethnic community in Ladakh, India near the border with Pakistan. Much of the work was done on self funding until now, but this time not possible :/ so we started an Inidegogo campaign - http://igg.me/at/fadingsongs

They are called "Brokpa" (aka 'Highlander' - a bit neglectful name given by the Ladakhis) and are quiet popular nowadays with tourist because of their aryan origin, Mediterranean features and gorgeous traditional dresses and ornaments. But no one knows a bit about their culture, as they are not documented at all and local government is treating them quiet bad also!

The problem is that they are less than 2000 in population and due to the impact of modernisation and sensitive politic situation with Pakistan and China, all their traditions are very rapidly diminishing... Nowadays they are kept only by a very few members from the older generation with not much hope to be passed to the younger one :( This will very soon lead to an irretrievable loss of identity :/

I saw it myself and that was my biggest motivation for starting this documentary project. The idea is to make at the end a series of short documentaries and bring all of them along with music recordings and research papers online accessible for everyone and to the community as well. We've managed to do much of this work, but still need one more really extensive fieldwork (~50 days on spot or two and a half months the whole trip).

This thread is not really to ask for money (though every $ will be welcome :p) but just to let you know about this. It will be much appreciated if you could spread the word about the campaign, share it etc. As you know campaign fundings depends very much on clicks and activity... so a bowing thanks for every share! - http://igg.me/at/fadingsongs

The above footage was shot in 2011 when we had a 5d mkii and a GH13. It's a quick edit, as much of the footage and audio are still being edited. This year I have a GH3 (really hope for a hack soon) + some minolta md glass and SLR magic 25mm & 12mm and a BMPC if I'm lucky enough to get it before 15th September. The audio will be on a Marantz 661 + NT-4 and NTG-2 with lots of batteries. They don't have electricity yet in those villages, so we had to charge all batteries and laptop on the solar panels of the locals. That was very time consuming and it's another reason we decided to try to raise some more money to cover a generator.

I'm be happy for any feedback, suggestions and support! If you know new budget ways to charge in the field, please let me know!

Physics of Creativity Research Institute: a fashion video intro made with GH3 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7592/-physics-of-creativity-research-institute-a-fashion-video-intro-made-with-gh3 Wed, 24 Jul 2013 04:14:32 +0000 flablo 7592@/talks/discussions Hi, just wanted to post this intro video I made for the final fashion show of ITS 2013, an international competition for young designers (http://www.itsweb.org). I also created the concept of the whole event, which was based on a surreal mixture of creativity and science, where creativity itself is measured and analyzed, and formulas, theories and coefficients are used trying to define it. Meaning of the outfits, data, the heart, etc would take too long to be described here, but believe me they are there for a reason :) Shot on GH3, Panny 35-100 2.8. Software used: Premiere, After Effects, Cinema 4D, Audition. I also created the audio track my mixing 3 different electronic tracks.

GH3 Feature film grabs. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7296/gh3-feature-film-grabs. Wed, 19 Jun 2013 10:16:09 +0000 ryancglover 7296@/talks/discussions Hey folks. Just wanted to share some grabs from the first project I've DPed on the GH3. A microbudget feature we shot incredibly fast with a tiny crew at the beginning of June. The film was directed by Adam Christie.

I used the 50Mbps mode and Lomo lenses, mostly a 50mm, which I stopped down to between 5.6 and 8 because our locations were so important to the story.

Compared to my GH2, I really loved the battery life and how the HDMI image doesn't do anything funky when you hit record. The display info always disappearing was frustrating though.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking!

Sun, 14 Jul 2013 16:05:50 +0000 inqb8tr 7521@/talks/discussions Hi guys, check out this film that I have been working on for an entire year. It is an official promotional film for my town Kotor in Montenegro, made with tiny budget, and of course, GH2! Small country, small town, small budget, but hopefully a little bit bigger film.

Few b shots with canons 7d and 550d (those soft ones ;), and unavoidable Gopro for underwater photography.

GH2, sedna AQ1 + manual nikkors & toki 11-16. I have written, edited, directed, graded, AE'd the film and even filmed part of it :)

Enjoy I don't know how to integrate a video in my text so just the shortcut, sorry...

Here's the teaser for the last school work I shot with my GH3 (I'm in love with this little thing) :

A few years after the "uprising" that wounded Europe, Mark looks back on this dark period of its existence and its challenging social reintegration into the world of the living.

The optics were : SLR Magic 12mm f1.6 (awesome) Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4 (awesome despite focus by wire and poor rack focus) Leica R Elmarit 135mm f2.8 (great deal) Lumix 14-140mm f4-5.8 (not fan..., but can be useful)

50 Mbits.mov, 400 iso, natural profil (-3 all the way, which mean noise, I like it but compression don't) Edited in Premiere

Comments and critics are welcome.

shot 95% of this in 2 days just to do a little more testing of the weight of the BMCC on a Glidecam HD2000 and a 12ft CobraCrane. I didn't put a whole lot of time into grading, and this isn't a video showing off DR, raw ability or flaws, just simple "FLoATing BMCC" video. If you notice I purposely shot on some rough terrain to see if any jello would pop up but It did fine.

off course I had to check it out. this is simply that: a quick and dirty first approach test

from vimeo description: carrying on my TL experiments - see previous - I fitted my shitty android phone (running cyanogenmod 7) in the window and took 301 pics with camera FV-5. processed them in lightroom and exported to panolapse, which is as simple as an application gets. still tweaked the yaw, roll and zoom and exported as a deflickered quicktime movie. added an spiced John Cage's Dream loop and some hisss. voilà!

you all have nice weekend (a la goddard)

Biffy Clyro Music Video - Competition Entry - GH3 and GH2 footage. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7323/biffy-clyro-music-video-competition-entry-gh3-and-gh2-footage. Fri, 21 Jun 2013 14:56:53 +0000 DavidHall 7323@/talks/discussions Here is a video I shot for band 'Ball of Mayhem', for their entry into Biffy Clyro's cover song competition:

Footage is a mix of the cbrandin 66mb hacked GH2, and a GH3. Both shooting at 24p.

I had a canon FD 50mm 1.8 on the GH2, and a Panasonic 20mm 1.7 on the GH3. Edited in FCP7, no grading.

This was my first attempt at 2.35:1, and I simply marked matte lines on a screen protector as a guide.

Footage was shot in a couple of hours the day after the song was recorded. I edited it in the following couple of days around my dayjob, came out pretty well, I think!

Recently took a vacation trip to Jamaica and brought with me my GH2 and GH3. GH2 was running Moon T5 24p all -2,-2, -2 and CH3 was avhc intra switching between 24p and 60p. Gotta say @driftwood, T5 is my favorite patch of yours. Lenses used was mostly canon FD 35-105 f3.5 on a genus 72mm ND filter, lumix 14 with the wide converter, lumix PZ 45-175 F4-5.6. I was just shooting with what ever camera I had with me as we went around having fun!! Didn't do much color grading just in FCP7 Was a short trip, but we had much much fun!! PS if you see any moire in any shot know it's not there, it's YouTube compression.
