A parody of the famous breakfast scene from Pulp Fiction. Starring again the always fabulous Younes Zagoghi.

We tried to recreate every shot as close as we could to the original. Audio isn't optimal due to unfortunate absence of a audioguy. But all in all, quite satisfied.

Would love to hear what you think!

This short film was shot on a hack GH2 during my last semester of undergrad film school.

Jodorowsky's Dune

History

In 1973, film producer Arthur P. Jacobs optioned the film rights to Dune but died before a film could be developed. The option was then taken over two years later by director Alejandro Jodorowsky, who proceeded to approach, among others, Peter Gabriel, the prog rock groups Pink Floyd and Magma for some of the music, artists H. R. Giger and Jean Giraud for set and character design, Dan O'Bannon for special effects, and Salvador Dalí, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, David Carradine and others for the cast.[1]

Frank Herbert traveled to Europe in 1976 to find that $2 million of the $9.5 million budget had already been spent in pre-production, and that Jodorowsky's script would result in a 14-hour movie ("It was the size of a phonebook", Herbert later recalled). Jodorowsky took creative liberties with the source material, but Herbert said that he and Jodorowsky had an amicable relationship. The project ultimately stalled for financial reasons. The film rights lapsed until 1982, when they were purchased by Italian filmmaker Dino DeLaurentiis, who eventually released the 1984 film Dune, directed by David Lynch.

Jodorowsky's Dune Trailer

Moebius Redux: Jodorowsky's Dune

TIME review

“What if the first film of that nature had been Dune and not Star Wars?” asks Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn. “Would the whole megabucks-blockbuster structure have been altered?” Having been shown the book of storyboards that put the whole project on paper, Refn says, “I saw Dune, and it was awesome.”

Jodorowsky’s dream movie remained only a dream: producer Michel Seydoux, after getting rejections from every Hollywood studio, came up $5 million short on the $15 million budget. …….And nearly four decades later, Jodorowsky acutely feels the pain — not just of the crushing of his project but also of a business model that needs financing for a brilliant madman’s artistry. Still vital and charismatic at 84, the Chilean-born director opens old wounds as if they were fresh cuts and speaks in urgent broken English:

“This system make us of slaves. Without dignity, without depth. With a devil in our pocket. The incredible money are in our pocket. [Pulls some bills from his trousers.] This money, this shit, this nothing. This paper who have nothing inside. Movies have heart — boom, boom, boom! Have mind [mimes lightning bolts from his brain]. Have power [points to his genitals]. Have ambition! I want to do something like that. Why not?” He looks anguished, spent. He might just have relived the yearlong fever of preparing Dune and the desolation of receiving the news that his beautiful child was stillborn.

Demo reel of my channel https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10350/demo-reel-of-my-channel- Fri, 09 May 2014 13:31:48 +0000 paulo_teixeira 10350@/talks/discussions

A lot of people are doing promotional videos that are describing their channel and I sort of never bothered to do one. My channel isn't really organized anyway. Just have mostly random clips and events that I'll sometimes record.. Well, recently I said why not, let me do one for the heck of it. Just take a lot of my finished YouTube clips, put it into my Premiere Pro project and see what my brain can come up with. I do have a lot of other videos on Vimeo but this was only to use stuff that I have on YouTube.

First things first was to decide how the sound should be. Should I keep the original sounds, should I keep it muted? or should I find music for the background? OK, so I decide to look for Creative Commons music and during the first few minutes of searching I found one that I'll use rather or not it's really ideal for my piece. Next step would be to decide how the heck I'm going to edit these clips together. Once I got the music on the time line, I said to myself now that I'll be using background music, I could put 2 to 4 clips on the same scene if I wanted to.

I also did it for the fan finder program of YouTube even though I don't have over 1,000 subscribers so the chances of this video getting selected are ultra slim. Doesn't hurt to try anyway since you never know. It's claimed that the first 5 seconds are very important, well, if the people aren't into fire performances.than I can see them wanting to click away but I thought it was cool to have and some people might be into it. It's also mentioned to make sure your piece is not too overwhelming with images. I guess I got a bit too carried away while editing and possibly put too many scenes all over the place. Then it's claimed that it's good to be under a minute. Well, my piece is nearly 2 minutes in length.

Theirs probably some more rules I've broken but ah well. I decided to not spend too much time editing it and upload as is. In the future I'll re-edit it and make it more organized.

Night at the opera https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10309/night-at-the-opera Sun, 04 May 2014 11:49:04 +0000 DrDave 10309@/talks/discussions A Handel aria for your listening enjoyment. This aria, Lascia ch'io pianga, was featured in the movie Farinelli.

It's sometimes fun to do a remake of a big Hollywood costume piece--just five minutes of one. All of the scores of Handel's music are now public domain, as they were printed in the 19th century.

Here is the movie version: The movie has an interesting anachronism, which is that the orchestra is conducted--in Handel's time the music flow was directed by the playing of the keyboard instrument, giving a more sinuous musical flow. Modern conductors came into view around 1820, more than 100 years after the opera was composed.

Would have been nice to rent out a baroque style opera house for a day, but that would have been expensive :)

Just a short video shot Sunday Early AM pre dawn and thru magic hour, Wanted to test out Magic Lantern RAW on my Mark iii. And see how it handles these conditions. Some very impressive things for a camera in this class. And with a little finesse and production values it could shine with cameras two-four times its price. This was shot with three lenses on a 5d Mark iii. The downloaded version is much better than the Vimeo encode, so please watch their for a more accurate representation (no banding).

Canon 24-105L Canon 70-200L Rokinon 14mm

No gear except camera tripod and lenses. Hope to do some more creative uses coming up.

Color graded and edited in Davinci Resolve Lite using a mix of Cinelog LUTs, and Vision Color LUTs. Very light noise reduction on the early shots applied with neat video, and a small level of grain added throughout the video to give it a a little filmish kick. Download original to get a much better idea of grain appeal. I myself have come from GH2 land and so the raw experience has been a joy. I personally enjoy the color grading process so it is very nice to have all the latitude and detail to work with.

Any comments or questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Enjoy.

Wed, 27 Nov 2013 11:59:10 +0000 PeterParkorr 8893@/talks/discussions A video made for a Mauritian hotel where the brief was a people focus (my suggestion / preference) and an online film festival feel.

Looking for any thoughts on the filming, editing, colouring, whatever I could have done differently. Still not got round to using a hack as stability is priority when on quick run & gun style trips, and out of the cam quality is fine for the purpose. Colouring was light touch, barely more than corrective but it's a start... other details on youtube.

Ray Bradbury Animated Sci-Fi Shorts https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10237/ray-bradbury-animated-sci-fi-shorts Wed, 23 Apr 2014 21:00:50 +0000 jleo 10237@/talks/discussions Soviet Animations of Ray Bradbury Stories: ‘Here There Be Tygers’ & ‘There Will Comes Soft Rain’

http://www.openculture.com/2014/04/watch-soviet-animations-of-ray-bradbury-stories.html

Vladimir Samsonov directed Bradbury’s Here There Be Tygers: A spaceship lands on an Eden-like planet. The humans inside are on a mission to extract all the natural resources possible from the planet, but they quickly realize that this isn’t your ordinary rock. “This planet is alive,” declares one of the characters. Indeed, not only is it alive but it also has the ability to grant wishes. Want to fly? Fine. Want to make streams flow with wine? Sure. Want to summon a nubile maiden from the earth? No problem. Everyone seems enchanted by the planet except one dark-hearted jerk who seems hell-bent on completing the mission.

Samsonov’s movie is stylized, spooky and rather beautiful – a bit like as if Andrei Tarkovsky had directed Avatar.

Another one of Bradbury’s shorts, There Will Comes Soft Rain, has been adapted by Uzbek director Nazim Tyuhladziev (also spelled Nozim To’laho’jayev). The story is about an automated house that continues to cook and clean for a family of four unaware that they all perished in a nuclear explosion. While Bradbury’s version works as a comment on both American consumerism and general Cold War dread, Tyuhladziev’s version goes for a more religious tact. The robot that runs the house looks like a mechanical snake (Garden of Eden, anyone?). The robot and the house become undone by an errant white dove. The animation might not have the polish of a Disney movie, but it is surprisingly creepy and poignant.
