Short BMX film with GH4

Here is a short BMX film I just wrapped up. All shot with the GH4. The time lapse was all from the GoPro 3Black and everything that was not riding was GH4 4k 24p. All riding was 1080 60p and I edited in a 1080 24p timeline.

I was pleasantly surprised with how the night shots turned out in shooting this. Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I used the GH3 for a number of key shots in the film. A great camera.

Check out my latest short with the GH4. It was fun test to see what Vivid picture style can get me. I love the results and I'd like to hear what you guys think too. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the blown out highlights but that is something I'll pay more attention to.

Hi everyone! I've been away for awhile - shooting commercial work with my newly acquired Sony CineAlta F3 on multiple projects since last Spring. Then I had the opportunity to shoot a couple of weddings this past August with our trusty light workhorse GH2's and wanted to share the incredible images still possible from this now almost forgotten discarded non 4K camera. Ha ha! IMO the image coming off the GH2 sensor is still pretty special. Shot with Lpowells completely stable flowmotion 2 settings on all cameras, this footage has very little colour correction, some adjusted exposure stuff, and no noise reduction applied. I used Pentax SMC Takumar glass for everything accept the steadicam shots (SLR Magic 12mm). Speedbooster on just one of the 4 cameras. Post was done in FCPX. We have many camera options at our disposal today - and I'm a huge fan of finding something that works for you and sticking with it to maximize it's potential regardless of whatever new toy comes out. I want to encourage everyone - that you can do your best work with what you already have! Just get out there and shoot, have fun, be respectful of others, and enjoy the journey. Cheers! Paul.

A personal project I spent the last 2.5 years on: collecting shots from local interesting or funny things on my business trips to certain corners of the world. As expected, I found many differences, but surprisingly also a lot of commonalities!

This video links the many places I visited together in a special way, and I hope you like the fact that sometimes you do not immediately notice that the next shot is almost 12.000km away, although it looks very similar ;-)

Krystian Shek (on twitter: @krystianshek) took the challenge to compose an original soundtrack for this endeavor which has one common theme, but also gives a local flavour, many thanks for that big effort Krystian! For those of you interested in the details, here we go: We enter a taxi in Shanghai which brings us to Singapore, where we watch the Marina Bay laser show from Asia's highest rooftop bar. The Skyscraper silhouette beams us to Houston, where pelicans find a home in Galveston Beach around oil rigs - we fly with the pelicans to Miami South Beach, where crazy cars directly get us to Dubai. The first rays of sunrise above the United Arab Emirates beam us directly to Nashville, US. Funky animals get us right to Malaysia, Kuantan. Fastfood is the key to brings us back to New York, US. The wall street raging bull has a twin in Shanghai, which is why we are beamed back to China - via cell phones we get back to Singapore, where we started our journey.

All shot on the various cam's I possessed over the last 2.5 years, the Lumix GH1, GH2 (both hacked), a GoPro Hero 3 black edition and finally the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera

I had a play around with the GH2 in a Graveyard in South London. It was a very cold day and so quite hard to keep everything smooth. I was using a super cheap £30 tripod a Velbon C-400 which comes with a PH-24B fluid head. I also experimented with a technique where you slowly tip the tripod towards an object/subject whilst tipping the tripod head up to keep it level. It gives the impression that you are using a slider track.

Although I have worked with still photography and video operating I haven't had much experience with this more artistic film work so I would love some feedback. Most of the shots I was on a very wide aperture, around 0.95-1.4 and kept my ISO very low. I haven't really done any colour correction and I am not entirely happy with the edit. I did it more as a test and rushed the edit a little whilst at a friends house (so I couldn't concentrate 100%). One thing I have noticed is that there is a "judder" effect going on constantly throughout, like it is missing some frames. Not sure if this is because I am using a cracked version of premiere or its the way I exported it.

Anyway here it is (its kind of depressing).

My director's cut of a music video I did last year. The artist ran me over completely in post and the official video is (in my opinion) at best at the level of a rough cut, she didn't even want color correction. VFX was also out the window.

So here is my intended version of the video that we agreed upon. Shot on GH2 with Flowmotion and Nikkor AI and AI-S lenses, edited in FCPX and graded in Resolve.

it was shot with a Panasonic AC90 in 30p, mostly a shutter of 30 except for outdoor day scenes and everything else fully automatic. Using a low shutter of 24 or 30 depending on the frame rate is good if you want to get the best low light abilities possible but as you can see in this video, the blur can look bad if your not careful with your pans.
