Had the opportunity recently to work producing a short film with the new startup nonprofit; The WeInspire Society. It is always so rewarding to put your heart and time into something you believe can inspire and change others for the better. I love this simple message of 'giving time' because I think our families and friends can all relate to technology taking over at times. As a result of working on this project I have been personally challenged when in a group, to put down the tablet and live more fully present to invest and engage in the people in front of me with my time. If you enjoyed it, feel free to share this film with others too.

Filming a Wedding with the BlackMagic!

I'm a firm believer that the best practice is to get out there and film, and not just of static plant life (unless you're contracted by National Geographic). I recently acquired the BlackMagic Camera (not the pocket), and I wanted to film a wedding with it. The camera, rig, and battery pack were a combined 35 lbs, so while filming the wedding it felt as if I were working out the whole time. Although I'm sure that the weight issue might of had something to do with me not balancing the rig correctly, I still came out with a wedding that I was proud of. While I don't suggest filming a wedding with the BlackMagic Camera, the flat profile and dynamic range really helped out in a pinch. All in all, I'll need to start some weight lifting if I'm to shoot more weddings with it but I think I prefer the dynamic range it gives me over the resolution of my GH2. I've been using my GH2 this summer for a european project with some other bloggers, tourist boards and Expedia.

This is the latest video, from a free Gregory Porter concert and some touring of the region. It's somewhere between a roadtrip film and a jazz festival report.

I wasn't really setup for capturing the concert in full, so some of my favourite shots came unexpectedly and weren't too steady. Time to invest in a steadicam obviously... but my editing has been getting better I think, so would be interested to hear what you think of the final product. I went quite heavy on the colouring at points to appeal to the instagram generation!

A train journey through India with my GH2 and no hack

A video made with footage shot in April 2013 on a luxury train tour through Maharashtra.

Took me forever to edit wading through hundreds of clips! Second time I have used Magic Bullet Looks and first time using Warp Stabilizer in Premiere Pro CS6, lots of the footage was shaky because it was mostly filmed on a moving train (and my camera movement was pretty terrible at times but this was definitely a run/sprint and gun scenario).

Pretty happy with the outcome altho the laptop I coloured the film on is quite yellow it seems. Still not using a hack...

Hi I recently finished my first shortmovie Rose Wagner. I would love to get some feedback on the movie.

Below some information on some of the main gear used (besides camera and follow focus, all was rental). Post production was done entirely with FCPX and FilmConvert.

Camera: Panasonic GH3 Profile: Natural -5 -5 -2 -5 (IPB MOV 50mbit) Lenses: Voightländer 25mm F0.95 and SLR Magic 12mm T1.6 Sound: SoundDevices 552 + Sennheiser MKH 416 Lights : 1 x Arri True Blue 2k, 2 x Arri Mini-Cyc 1k, 2 x Arri Junior 650 W, 2 x Arri Junior 300 W (all tungsten, 2 x 2kw Honda generator for outdoor scene) Other: Dana dolly, zacuto rig, lanparte deluxe follow focus, monitoring/focus peaking on Scopebox via Blackmagic Intensity Extreme (this was by far the most important tool on set!)

This was my first try with the GH2 2 years ago, with none specific knowledge about movie making. I'm a pure newbie. I tried to make an atmospheric short about things I felt while in vacation in Belorussia. I'am aware of all the technical defaults of this little thing, but I'm eager to read your advices about rhythm, editing and story telling.

GF1 hack with 35mm 1.7 lens rough footage

I just threw this together with no audio as an example of the footage I am getting with the GF1 hack. This is the reliable playback patch from LPowell (4.2.2 colour 35mbits/s). The infamous Fujian lens everyone is using on youtube. I was very impressed with the lack of much rolling shutter (in MJPEG ONLY) on this camera, shame its only 720 but still some nice footage! I was shooting it at 100 - 200 ISO (mostly 200 noise was very bad above this) and the shutter was 1/50 or 1/100 (pal country) depending on how much motion was in shot. I used 1/30 a couple of times when I really needed extra light. There is no audio because I was talking rubbish the whole time! Who needs audio anyway for such a rough example. I uploaded this as there are not many examples of the hacked gf1 in action. Well the ones that are there are super lame. Maybe it will help someone find a decent cheap video camera. I bought mine for £60 and the lens cost £20! lol £80 camera!
