Just wondering if this would work with a GH2. The long slot on the bottom allows the screw to slide from side to side. It looks like it might work with a GH2.

Here is a review with a good view of the bottom of the unit:

http://dslrvideoshooter.com/episode-29-alzo-transformer-dslr-camera-rig/

Would it be possible to use this with the Fotga rail system? I wonder if there is a way to secure the top of the GH2 to to the top rail?

It's not a steadicam, but I was able to get pretty stable moving shot. I loosened the top handle and the shoulder extension so that all parts aligned vertically. Lumix 20.7 lens was so light that it didn't require any adjustment. Lumix 14-42 was light also. Basically hold the top handle vertically and try to move around. Around 14-25mm range I was able to get steady enough "moving" shots. It's not as good as a dedicated steadicam, but it was good enough for me. One nice thing was that low position like 2 ft above ground was possible.

Cheap Filmcity Shoulder support Rig (FC-10W) or alternatives https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5602/cheap-filmcity-shoulder-support-rig-fc-10w-or-alternatives Fri, 28 Dec 2012 15:08:28 +0000 glebnagorny 5602@/talks/discussions Hi,

I am planning to buy my first shoulder rig for GH2. I don't have much budget and I don't need anything fancy. Just something that would work without major issues with a possible upgrade to follow focus and matte box later on.

I found Filmcity Shoulder support Rig (FC-10W), which seems like a good option for a cheap price - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Filmcity-Shoulder-Support-Mount-Rig-For-DV-DSLR-camera-Follow-focus-matte-Box-/370723716620?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item5650dafe0c

There are some videos with it on youtube -

and

There is also an option with 1kg weight, which costs about £20 pounds more - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FILMCITY-Shoulder-Support-Mount-Rig-Rods-with-weights-For-DSLR-Video-Matte-box-/370722001848?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5650c0d3b8 I could not find any cheaper solutions with weight, do you think it is worth extra 20£?

Does anyone have experience with it? What do you think about this rig? I am also considering alternatives, like "beginners rig" in CatchIT deals and Fotga rig (to which I can buy most of the parts separetely and which would be more expensive, starting with this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DP500-II-Rail-System-15mm-Rod-Rig-Baseplate-Support-DSLR-Camcorder-Mattebox-5D-2-/330794357528?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d04e15318 )

Thanks.

I currently have Gini handles and Gini follow focus.

While I think them are both top notch build quality, them are betty heavy. I want to have more balanced rig.

Any suggestions especially for good and light front handles? I would appreciate if you could give the weight of the handles.

I'm especially interested about weight of Tilta and Lanparte handles.

GH2 Rig with tutorial on counterweight https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4996/gh2-rig-with-tutorial-on-counterweight Thu, 25 Oct 2012 22:25:16 +0000 cordvision 4996@/talks/discussions Hello Everybody I recently put a GH2 Rig together that balances pretty good. I wanted to share it and also give you a short tutorial on how to create a pretty cheap DIY counterweight. image

I decided to make my own counterweight and it turned out to be pretty straight forward. What you need:

1x 15mm Rod Clamp ($15) (I used one from a Gini Lens support, which already has pre-drilled screw wholes)

1x Project Box (ca. $5) (you can buy them on eBay, Radio Shack, or any other store that carries electronics etc. Preferably it has at least one side made off metal)

1x Weighs (ca. $7) (I got some led for cheap from ebay)

2x Screws ($.20) (I found screws that perfectly fit the pre-drilled wholes of the 15mm Gini rod clamp)

All you have to do, is to drill two wholes trough the project box so you can attach the Rod Clamp and you are pretty much done. Fill the box with as much weight as you need, and make sure to stuff the remaining space with some padding so nothing moves. I used bubble wrap, but you could use paper, foam or anything else that is similar.

As you can see, it is a cheap, simple, yet flexible solution and even looks decent...

Rig Recommendations https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4878/rig-recommendations Fri, 12 Oct 2012 20:19:59 +0000 Tyler_Bailey 4878@/talks/discussions I've been looking at a lot of rigs recently because a recent job has required me to upgrade from pulling focus from my barrel and going straight hand-held. My budget isn't low nor is it too high (something like $300-$500) and I want something that is sturdy and will last me a while. I'm not too concerned about a matte box but if it comes in a bundle, that's fine.

I'm looking for a sturdy and somewhat weighted shoulder rig with versatility in regards to being attached and removed quickly from a tripod and room for attaching other accessories such as a follow focus, on-board monitor and perhaps hdmi splitter or maybe a microphone on an articulating arm.

I've worked with Jag-35 and I'm almost tempted to get a field runner they have for almost $500 but maybe there's something better I can work with that is more sturdy and reliable.

Pimp my cheap rig https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3497/pimp-my-cheap-rig Thu, 07 Jun 2012 14:40:36 +0000 mk47 3497@/talks/discussions I've got the cheap rig from the deals topic. I decided to start improving it.

First off i replaced the aluminium rods with longer stainless steel ones. Next up comes a pair of blocks for the shoulder pad and a tripod mount. The section behind the pad is reserved for the battery which should be delivered any day.

Then i will get some sort of follow focus. Im looking for a good quality/price product. There are already some follow focus designs for 3d printing, but im kinda sceptic about the gears.

I was also thinking about 3d printing out a filter holder until i get a matte box. And for a while, i've been thinking about making a ring light for the 15mm rail system.

Quick Release solutions for One Camera and multiple Devices? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4717/quick-release-solutions-for-one-camera-and-multiple-devices Wed, 26 Sep 2012 00:31:15 +0000 goanna 4717@/talks/discussions There are plenty of Quick release solutions available - but most involve some kind of vendor lock-in.

This video doesn't help re a universal solution; like most, it simply encourages buyers to buy an entire matching set of devices. But at least it gets the one camera > many devices message across.

Does anyone know of a solid DSLR system where you could ideally buy, say, Several Base Plates (AKA clamps) with (1) camera plate?

That way, we'd have a camera plate on our camera, which stays on. There's a tripod waiting with a base plate assembly already attached; also a stabiliser, a shoulder rig and a triangle dolly - all with base-plates ready for truly quick attaching of the camera.

Now, is that too much to ask, without buying a plethora of camera plates/base plate sets, each in its own blister pack?

Lanparte baseplate mod https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3326/lanparte-baseplate-mod Thu, 24 May 2012 11:52:59 +0000 kupchenpo 3326@/talks/discussions I have this lovely baseplate that I bought from Lanparte through PV to use with my GH2. I love it, but it's been a bit of a pain in the ass to use because every time I need to change the battery, I have to slide the camera off the baseplate and then pop the QR plate off to get at the battery terminal. I noticed that you could file down the QR to get the battery out, and saw here that some people had done that. So, I borrowed a friends angle grinder and did that.....work like a charm. When I put everything together I noticed that I might be able to grind enough of the baseplate away to be able to open the battery port with everything assembled, but that it'd be cutting it close. So I said, "f**k it, I'll give it a try", and boy am I glad I did. Now I can change batteries when fully rigged......awesome! Now, I don't think everyone will want to do this, it does compromise the structural integrity of the unit to some degree, but for me, it's 100% worth it.

imageimageimage

As you can see in the last picture, it was necessary to grind down to just about where the QR slides in, and the section I grinded down is loose now, but even if that section comes off, it's not really necessary for holding the camera in place, it just wouldn't slide smoothly from both sides any more. This is something I'm willing to give up to be able to change batteries without disassembling!!!

What I lost in beauty, I gained in functionality :)

GH2+GH1 camera cage https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1714/gh2-gh1-camera-cage Mon, 12 Dec 2011 09:55:33 +0000 pc_bel 1714@/talks/discussions My name is Pau and I am a long time fan of this forum, but never before had done a post. I'm gh2 and gh1 user and, of course, a hack user... Searching for a cage for my cameras I saw Rewo one and really liked, but too expensive and no suitable for gh1 made me discard it. No one in the market seemed to be adequated for my needs, so long time ago I decided to build it myself.
Now with the great help of a friend we have a prototipe almost finish. Attached are some images from the 3D model. The cage is made in CNC aluminium and in few days I'll post real images. Real prototipe will have some improvements like two ridges in the front of the base plate to prevent the camera turns and some more... The intent is to be much cheaper than the Rewo, so some improvements as helicoids on the threads I did not think possible. All the threads in the top and some more (not yet in the 3D model) in laterals will be 1/4".
If there were enough people interested in buying it (at least 50), we could give a price.

Thanks to everyone and especially to Vitaliy Kiselev. Thanks to him, this revolution has been possible.

DVANZ cage for GH2 and GH1 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3657/dvanz-cage-for-gh2-and-gh1 Thu, 21 Jun 2012 23:45:50 +0000 DVANZ 3657@/talks/discussions Hello,

Here is some info about a new cage. Similar to Rewo and Gini cage.

I have just had built a GH2 cage with the help of the engineer from Panavision New Zealand. I have made 1 of version 1 (that had a hotshoe mount) and improved it to version 2 which I have made 4 of. Im keeping 2 but have 2 to sell. I have made a few products before, one of which was the PIX240 Video Assist Bracket by DVANZ. I have sold all 40 of them. See http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150928803712977&set=a.10150928803697977.522345.105987732976&type=1&theater

If people are interested in a DVANZ GH2 cage, Version 2, then you can purchase these from me. They are flatpack, include the top handle and the Hoga right angle audio adapter. If I get more interest I can make some more. I just got sick of waiting for the Rewo cage so I built my own. To recover costs, im asking for US$400 per cage plus $40 shipping, payable via Paypal. If someone wanted 2, then shipping would be $60.

I hope you like the cage. 2 rubber strips at the base and 4 rubber recessed points that hold the camera very stable. Annodised alloy with 1/4" threads everywhere and 2 x 3/8" on top too.

Cheers,

Nigel
