It's a Fisher Delta Beta, and cost about £249 including the first 500g of PLA filament.

I'm hoping to make props for a film with it. But a first job, here's a bracket for a 19" rack mount monitor that I use for focus confirmation on:

It was designed in Cheetah3D for which you can treat each unit as 1mm, which helps to create very accurate sizing etc.

https://www.edelkrone.com/p/467/the-pocket-rig-2

Apparently they have gotten rid of the adjustment knobs and switch to what they call constant friction joints. It looks good and from the pictures (I'm in china right now so watching the video isn't working for me) it looks much more sturdy than the previous model (a knockpff of which I was just about to buy when I saw this). I have been contemplating getting an em5 mark 2 for shooting handheld video at festivals here in china with the 3 new voigtlanders I am getting. But if this works pretty well I may just save 700 dollars and get it instead and shoot on my gx7 or g6. Just at first glance how does everyone think it compares to the first model and do you think it will fix some of the version 1 issues?

Ergonomic handles with remote start/stop https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12282/ergonomic-handles-with-remote-startstop Fri, 30 Jan 2015 22:34:03 +0000 Sangye 12282@/talks/discussions I'm looking for an affordable hand grip for my GH4 rig that comes with an integrated start/stop button. The GH4 supports LANC, so any LANC compatible grip should work. I've found a few very nice options, but they are expensive. For example:

http://www.movigrip.com looks wonderful and highly ergonomic, but it costs over $500 USD. Tilta makes a set that sell for around $300, but I hate the design. Movcam makes one that looks decent and sells for $350. That's more than I want to spend, and while I like the design better than the Tilta, I don't like it as much as the Movigrip.

There are so many cheap Chinese knock-off items these days, there must be something like the Movigrip for less than $200 I imagine?

Thanks.

Vitaliy gave me the link to it and I ordered it. So far it seems pretty good. I'm assuming it's a knock off of a lanparte? I don't know, there's no writing on it and the seller's name is "Chen". Overall very solid build and the clamps have teeth so no slippage issues. Seems like a good value for $167. Test footage is solid and arm fatigue low. I like the shoulder pad/plate because you can mount things on the various threaded holes-- I use a Tascam DR60d as a counterbalance and audio recorder. I shot some video of it, the first part is what you get for $167, I added some left over parts I had sitting around to make a full rig.

DIY Remote Focus Puller / Small Director's Monitor "Rig" ? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12348/diy-remote-focus-puller-small-directors-monitor-rig- Mon, 09 Feb 2015 02:44:59 +0000 StudioDCCreative 12348@/talks/discussions Anybody have any ideas / photos of their DIY remote focus puller / small director's monitor setup?

I'm about to homebrew a monitor + handle + wireless ff combo for my gimbal rig and want to see other people's examples beforehand. Basically something to put handles and a convenient mount on a 7" monitor, and the FF hand unit itself, of course. FF agnostic (I'm getting the RT Motion, but may use this rig with other FF units like the Bartech so flexibility and durability are important).

Preferably something durable, clean, and professionally practical, but I'm not one for buying other people's prepackaged solutions if it's not necessary. I can do limited metalwork if it only involves drilling and cutting and tapping.

Searching the internets has been something of a letdown for me, or I'm bad at searching, but I can't find too many nicely thought out rigs for this purpose yet - everybody seems to be throwing stuff together with duct tape and whatever's laying around the rental shop workbench. Of course, it might be that it's a problem that isn't well solved either. Anybody have some good thoughts on this? What works for you or what are you considering doing for this?

Doc Rig Solution? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12948/doc-rig-solution Thu, 07 May 2015 10:42:40 +0000 johnbosco 12948@/talks/discussions I'm a relatively recent lurker and this is my first post. It's been a lot of fun catching up on a lot of the work put in here with the hacks, and it has been pretty interesting to get insight into what matters for shooters/filmmakers/pros/amateurs alike, so thanks again for providing that space! I've learned a lot, and I am grateful!

I'm working on a documentary on a musician friend of mine, purely self-motivated and unfunded, in part because I think that too often people decide that budget or tech restricts their ability to just make something that is good and entertaining with what they have. I started back in February with a borrowed T3i, kit lenses and a friend donating his time and 7d (or 6d? i can never remember.) kit to help shoot. I saved up some money, got a used GH2 on CL and a used Roland R26 (from a pawn shop for $150, no less!), and am looking to continue shooting.

Based on how we were shooting/the needs of the doc, I'm going to get a Benro monopod (w/the S4 head) as I venture into run and gun situations. I like the portability combined with stability. It seems good for live performances of the musician but also flexible for following him in everyday situations, which the doc is a blend of.

Enter my dilemma/question to everyone: mounting the Roland R-26 with this setup. Any tried and true monopod + audio setups out there? With a second person helping, they could run audio easily enough, but with most of my days being a one-man-band setup, I'm looking to minimize handling noise (the weak point, in my opinion, of the R26) and maximize space efficiency.

I will say that I bought one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Movo-SMM5-Universal-Microphone-Shockmount/dp/B00RF1BQZ0 But I returned it because, although it worked well mounting the zoom we were using, the roland has some added weight/bulk to it and the one I received was broken. I had concerns with the lightweight plastic standing up in the field.

I was thinking I could mount the device to the monopod itself, rather than the hotshoe on the GH2, but I am unfamiliar with the hardware side of this and wanted to see if anyone had experience/advice with what might be a good option or alternative to the linked movo thing.

I'm open to a cage, but that's a bit pricier, and, as I mentioned, I'm working out-of-pocket, so would like to keep costs to a minimum. Still, the best solution is the best solution, and I'm just looking for options to generate ideas as I look to build my first rig. Any ideas? Thank you!

And if you want to see what I've been shooting, here's a trailer I made for the project in question:

GH3 battery grip modding https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7628/gh3-battery-grip-modding Mon, 29 Jul 2013 13:33:54 +0000 sam_rides_a_mtb 7628@/talks/discussions So I saw this: http://www.newsshooter.com/2013/07/23/extreme-documentary-how-vice-puts-the-canon-c300-through-its-paces/

And thought how awesome it would be to have that relocated camera grip with controls for the GH3.

The Canon Cxxx series grip relocator is this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/875881-REG/Zacuto_z_hg_c3gr_Zgrip_Handle_with_C300.html

Well then I realized, there is a battery grip for the GH3 that not only has a shutter release button, but 2 dials, as well as controls for WB, ISO, and EC!!!!

Now, this is where it gets tricky. If we wanted to somehow turn this battery grip into a relocated handle/grip, how would we connect the 18 contacts? This could potentially turn the GH3 camera into an even more powerful run and gun kit with something like this.

The battery grip even has the more traditional strap slots/lugs, which should make attaching a camcorder-like strap easier.

How many of those contacts are needed and what would be the best way of connecting a wire, so to speak?

Seems like this battery grip would be the perfect place to start in attempting to make some sort of handle control on a GH3 rig.

Any thoughts?

Tip: Secure Your GH4 Eyecup https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11890/tip-secure-your-gh4-eyecup- Tue, 02 Dec 2014 07:06:49 +0000 bheath 11890@/talks/discussions Hi,

I would suggest that users of the GH4 secure the rubber eyecup to the body using a few narrow strips of two-sided tape - (the gummy kind) or something like a bit of silicone adhesive.

It takes very little force to remove this thing. For instance taking the camera in and out of a back, pocket or pack.

The replacement part is costly (over $30.00 USD and will take time out of your shooting.

I used a few strips of 4mm wide, two-sided tape, because I also wanted to lock the diopter dial in place.

I'm not attaching a picture, because the camera can't take a picture of itself:)

I hope this helps any of you.

Over and out.

Manfrotto Sympla https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2465/manfrotto-sympla- Sat, 03 Mar 2012 02:12:57 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 2465@/talks/discussions image

“We are thrilled to debut the new SYMPLA line at the 2012 National Association of Broadcasters show,” said Wayne Schulman, Sales & Product Manager, Video. “The SYMPLA line bridges the gap between off-the-shelf, ready-to-use convenience and custom modularity, and we look forward to showcasing it to NAB attendees at this year’s show.”

SYMPLA supports can be assembled, configured and adjusted to a wide range of situations in seconds – all without tools. Every product in the line, from the unique Flexible Matte Box to the innovative Variable Plate, is made of steel and aluminum to withstand the rigors of professional use and meet Manfrotto’s high quality and performance standards. The number of components in the SYMPLA family gives users maximum flexibility and adjustment control with minimum hassle. Like everything Manfrotto makes for professional users, SYMPLA is 100% compatible with other Manfrotto photo and video support products.

SYMPLA modular rigs are yet another example of Manfrotto’s unparalleled research and development, engineering and manufacturing expertise. They incorporate design and technology innovations and best-in-class ideas from Manfrotto’s current products. Self-supporting clamps that stay in place even before they’re locked, for example, come from the world of heavy-duty stage lighting. Flexible, easy-locking ball-joint hand grips were inspired by Manfrotto photographic ball heads. Multi-axis micro-adjusters and single locking mechanisms, which make fine tuning easier and safer, come from Manfrotto photographic geared heads. And sliding plates with quick release and secondary safety buttons were borrowed from Manfrotto professional video heads. Together, these advanced components make SYMPLA modular rigs easier, safer and more comfortable for even the smallest video teams to use on location and on the run.

We are excited to debut our new remote controls at the 2012 National Association of Broadcasters show," said Wayne Schulman, Sales & Product Manager, Video. "Using HDSLR's for video has always been problematic. Being able to follow focus and do other functions on a HDSLR without touching the camera will help alleviate many of the issues when shooting video. The products have tested well and have excited those that have been able to "play" with them. We look forward to showcasing it to NAB attendees at this year's show.

A brand new range of Manfrotto remote controls for Canon HDSLR's promises a true innovation in the field of HDSLR filming – true electronic follow-focus that works by interfacing with camera and lens firmware.

Until now, follow-focus equipment has been based on an expensive, delicate hardware system of a gear-tooth belt fastened around the lens focus ring, hand-turned or motor-driven, usually via an off-axis second geared dial: every lens or set-up change has required slow and precise adjustment of components; every movement of the focus dial and lens has brought the risk of an unwanted shift in framing; every camera operator has needed to use one hand – or even an additional person – to control follow-focus alone; and follow-focus at a distance (for example, when the camera is mounted on a crane) has been almost impossible.

Manfrotto electronic follow-focus: easier, quicker and with less interference… even at a distance

Manfrotto's new remote controls circumvent the need for any physical, hardware interface between follow-focus system and the camera lens, and instead wire directly into the camera body to use its internal focus control systems. The advantages are obvious: lenses can be swapped easily, no extra hardware or adjustment is required, nothing and no-one moves the camera unexpectedly during follow-focus, one-man camera operation is easier and control at a distance is as simple as extending the cable between the camera and the remote. It's tempting to say that Manfrotto's remote controls could reshape the HDSLR sector, opening up a host of new applications and possibilities.

**Control over all key camera functionality **

By interfacing with the camera's electronics, it's not just "normal" follow-focus operations, in- and out- focus point pre-sets and focusing speed that can be ably managed by Manfrotto's remote controls; many other camera functions can also be operated from the same convenient hand grip or clamp unit, including record start & stop, photo/video switching and shutter release, live view, one-touch auto-focus, digital zoom, aperture and exposure, ISO settings and more besides. The LCD screen on Manfrotto's Deluxe version remote also relays general information, such as battery charge level, white balance temperature and memory card status from the camera body – especially useful if the camera's on-body screen is hidden or inaccessible, or just too far away to be seen.

Nice handle bar option for 19mm and 15mm handheld rig... https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10943/nice-handle-bar-option-for-19mm-and-15mm-handheld-rig... Fri, 01 Aug 2014 12:34:09 +0000 n5p 10943@/talks/discussions Hey if anyone is looking for a low cost alternative for 19mm handle bars for a handheld rig, I found a pretty good one. I just wrapped a feature film on my BTR1 and was looking for those handle bars only, but came across this one from Camtree... http://www.thecinecity.com/eshop/search.php?mode=search&page=1Good thing I found out because these ones are waaaayyy better than the simple handle bar that just slides on.

Our B Cam had the original Red handle bar grips only and those ones don't lock well, and slide around. These ones from camtree were rock solid the whole shoot, good build quality, light, and dependable. And the price was quite a bit lower than anything else I could find. Also they work for 15mm as well as 19mm rods. Check em out, definitely makes shooting handheld way easier... and as a bonus sometimes I was able to use it to shoot low level, on the ground type shots and could use the rosettes to adjust my level, like a mini tripod almost. Well worth the cost.
