Recording Media SD memory card, SDHC memory card, SDXC memory card
(Compatible with UHS-I standard SDHC/SDXC memory cards)

Anybody know if this means it "supports" or achieves UHS-1 speeds?

If it is true UHS-1 controller, it means much faster media supported like 95MB/s Sandisk extreme pro, would fly for file transfers and good indication this camera or next GH3 would be awesome hack target at high bitrates...

GH2.... The need of recognition. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1343/gh2....-the-need-of-recognition. Thu, 03 Nov 2011 05:47:58 +0000 danyyyel 1343@/talks/discussions
It is really tiring outside of here to go and preach the hacked gh2 merit if we don’t have some benchmark. Until we have some good test of the gh2 against some of the industry standard camera or at the very least some other dslr, we will have no ground to change the perception towards that little wonder cam. Do I expect the gh2 to beat the red/Alexa in terms of resolution or dynamic range, hell no. But if it approaches it in any way I think it will be no mean feat.
What I love about the hack gh2 is that it could be a truly disruptive technology. What I mean is that this industry is really the most conservative I have seen. If you compare it to any other electronic ones, the progress has been at snail pace. Compare it to the photo industry where you have 18 mega pixel raw cameras for $ 700. No surprise that the affordable large sensor camera came by accident to the video world through the photo technology. Now what the hack gh2 shows is that there is enough power in a $ 800 camera body to make intra codec at 200+ megabit. It shows how this industry is conservative and should change.

I hope that with some good test, the gh2 could get a true recognition to a much bigger crowd and force this industry to move much quicker. No more excuse that it will cost thousands of dollar more for 10 bit etc...

Think of it:

-Cleaner video Digiscoping at longer ranges with a high quality scope.
-Cleaner photographic digiscoping at longer ranges.
-Its possible with the EX-tele converter fuction to further increase the zoom.

If any of you guys have a Swarovski Scope or a Kowa Scope and do digiscoping. Then keep in touch because I have gatherd some photos off the internet of what the Panasonic GH2 can do with a Swarovski scope and its looks very interesting. Swarovski Scope cost £1700, so 5000mm zoom is a big +... and it costs £8000 for a 1300mm dedicated lense.

GF1 is slower than GH1, but the static photo looks special. 12MP magic? I don't own it, but I like its rugged body. My GH13's body coating already began peeling off.

External Shutter Trigger Circuit for GH2? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1141/external-shutter-trigger-circuit-for-gh2 Sun, 09 Oct 2011 23:21:40 +0000 wardas 1141@/talks/discussions
The reason I ask is because I have purchased a focus stacking rail made by http://www.cognisys-inc.com/stackshot/stackshot.php and can't seem to get it to trigger the GH2 shutter remotely.
The description of the output of the stacking rail electronics is: trigger output is a "low side driver" (switches in grond). THis means that when the shutter trigger ouptut fire it connects the center conductor of the output jack to the outside connector to draw current throught the center conductor." In other words it uses an open drain output to trigger the camera.

If the GH2 fucntions differently can you describe the methodoloy. I am electronics savy and could figure out a conversion ciruit, but first need to know what I need to convert to. Thanks]]>

no button depressed 2.2V

focus 1.0V

shutter release .6V

So it seems like my circuit is doing what its supposed to so unless Panny changed the circuit design on this last manufacturing run. WE1BA.... to where different resistor values are needed.

I am wondering am I missing something basic? Perhaps there is menu item like "enable remote shutter" somewhere that I havent' found yet. or maybe disable external mic? There is no external mic connected.

Any advice?

2. move your footage to your HD
3. open Adobe Media Encoder CS5 and drag a clip to it
4. VERY IMPORTANT... select clip in AMB cs5 and go to FILE, INTERPRET FOOTAGE,
5. select "Use Frame Rate from file 30.0000 (30p) Pixel Aspect stays the same
6. Field Order select "Conform to: Upper Field First" IMPORTANT
7. CLICK OK
8. now ur footage is interpreted as 30 interlaced, click on SETTINGS
9. AND render to preferred format to 23.98, I used Apple Pro Res HQ and my footage looks good.

can some of you confirm if this actually works? I know transcoding is an extra step, but doing it like this is pretty simple, specially if your on a mac like me and dont wanna go the PC route to transcode and fix the crippled HDMI footage.

1. Set Sharpness to -2
2. Use the GOP3 hack (or the GOP1 - if it works)
3. Use a diffusion filter (Hmm - I would be doubtful if a low light scene would cause detail related problems, as we saw this issue in low light footage as well)

As a corollary to 1. and 3. we can use the Nostalgic or Smooth presets as they are "flatter"

http://www.dpreview.com/previews/sonyslta77/page8.asp

I downloaded the files from the link above and pulled them into streamparser. They appear to be 28 mb/sec but I noticed that their I, P, B frames were a lot lower than what I have seen for even the 32 mb/sec GH2 footage. Maybe @Cbrandin can comment on whether stream parser would be accurate for the A77 files.

The other interesting thing is that the 1080p @ 60 FPS files don't really look any better than the 1080i files. They are not of the same scene but if I didn't know which one was which I don't think I could tell them apart. Panasonic has already stated that they intend to give the GH2 25 FPS with a firmware update and they have a history of giving older cameras new features(ie: LX3 and LX5 more recently).

I think Panasonic should just enable 1080p @ 60 FPS for the GH2. They have stated that the GH3 is not coming out anytime soon. So why not give the GH2 the same features as the new A77. Panasonic has said that the GH2 is still selling well even though its price is roughly unchanged for the body only. They could charge $100 for a firmware update and give us 1080p @ 60 FPS and PAL users 25p and I guarantee it would keep the GH2 selling well into next year.

1080p @ 60 FPS is probably not as useful as we had hoped it would be. However, I wouldn't mind paying $100 to try it out.

GH2 Gamma Curves https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/728/gh2-gamma-curves Sun, 21 Aug 2011 21:21:01 +0000 proaudio4 728@/talks/discussions The tests uses a gray linear gradient image.
Unfortunately, I needed a larger image to shoot. This tests does not show anything below 18 IRE. I could not frame it correctly due to this
I'll perform this test later in the week which should show 0-100 IRE.

The good thing is it does show how these film mode curves roll into the highlights.
As you can see, Cinema has the most linear curve, but unfortunately does not appear to have much of a roll-off in the upper IREs approaching 100 IRE.
The good thing is Cinema has a decent linear response in the 55-70 IRE for skin tones.
Under controlled lighting, Cinema would probably win.
Unfortuantely, if you are working in "hard" lighting (direct sun), your shadows may get crushed due to the way the curve has little roll at low IREs.
Man I wish we had this linear curve, but with gently roll-off at the top and bottom. This would still maintain that fucking good looking skin tone, but would
also allow more light in the shadows and highlights would roll-off better before clipping.

Film mode Smooth does roll off the highlights better than Cinema, but it does punch up the upper mid tones. Compare the curve at 70 IRE (Cinema), Smooth is hotter which may tend to over expose your skin tones. I've seen this issue with Smooth. It looks great at the very top highlights 90-100, but looks too "peaky" in the upper mid and higher skin tones. I guess you could always throw a curve on this in post to bring down these peaky upper mid levels.
