Would it be as effective at keying? One other possibly very naive question - is there any advantage in using sharper lenses for greenscreen? The Panasonic 12-35mm for example? Thanks a lot.

"Noise Reduction Tip for the GH2 thats MASSIVE" https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2914/noise-reduction-tip-for-the-gh2-thats-massive- Tue, 17 Apr 2012 16:12:46 +0000 theteddy 2914@/talks/discussions Im sure this has been mentioned on Personal View somewhere but I'm damned if I can find it. In the link
Drew from the Drew Network claims in episode 6 of Hacked GH2 that by shooting only in >white balance> incandescent (the little lightbulb icon) in Vibrant mode, and then correcting in post you can virtually eliminate noise. The theory being that its the red channel that is the culprit. I cant test this myself as I've only got a crappy consumer editing suite. Note that whats shown on You Tube is client ready footage, hence the crushed blacks. I think he uses CS 5.5. Does this actually work ? He gets to the point after the 5 minute mark.

Small, light, decent autofocus, and horizon level gauge which goes out to the external monitor, to buy just a monitor for steadicam with that feature will cost you more than GH4:) but i want a remote start/stop, tried Sony LANC controller which works fine on C100, but it doesnt work on GH4, also saw cheesycam video where zoom lenses can be also controlled from the remote, i know that Panasonic protocol is different from LANC, some remotes will work for both types, some won't, which remotes will work on GH4 as a start/stop and zoom controller for PZ lenses? thanks!

CP+ Camera Panasonic interview https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2275/cp-camera-panasonic-interview Tue, 14 Feb 2012 10:53:44 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 2275@/talks/discussions I want Panasonic to be known for very high-quality cameras, and we are currently restructuring the range of products that we offer to include a very high end model

Panasonic has already shown two new concept lenses that it plans to launch this year – a 35-100mm and a 12-35mm, both of which will feature a constant f/2.8 aperture across the zoom range. 'We are very good at making aspherical lenses,' Kitao told AP. 'And when we use them in our optical designs we can reduce the number of elements we need, and thus produce better optical quality.

the company is able to produce aspheric elements of up to 30mm in diameter, but that soon it will be possible for the factory to produce larger - paving the way for faster apertures.

The GF series is a step-up from compact cameras, but we want the GH and GX cameras to be seen as quality products.

We will define more clearly what GH and GX means this year, so consumers have a better idea of what their characteristics are

We are also trying to improve the readout speed of our sensors and the speed at which the focus information is processed so that lack of sharpness is detected more quickly and focus can be found in less time. We are convinced that contrast detection is a better method for mirrorless systems

We already have lenses from 14mm to 300mm, and we've already introduced nine camera bodies, but now we will make faster lenses and more compact pancakes.

My GH3/lens makes "motor" noise even in manual when motionless https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10437/my-gh3lens-makes-motor-noise-even-in-manual-when-motionless Thu, 22 May 2014 21:00:12 +0000 harmon_eyes 10437@/talks/discussions I just got a GH3 and I'm using a Lumix 14-140 F3.5-5.6 zoom. As soon as I attach the lens and turn the camera on--even if the camera is in manual mode, with manual focus--if my ear is within, say, 3" of the camera (the side where the lens attaches), I hear a subtle but unmistakable noise that sounds a bit like a grinding motor but that you could also convince me is something electronic.

Does the GH3--or could my lens--have a motor that runs even when the camera is in manual mode (even for stills), set on manual focus, and is simply sitting there, pointed at a surface with a constant exposure?

I've got the OIS switch turn off on the lens, as well as every camera function I can think of.

The only time that the sound goes away is when the camera is in "Scene" mode--but as soon as a scene setting is "set," the noise comes back.

I have updated the camera to the 1.2 firmware.

I've never worked with a DSLR before, and I'm a bit of a newbie in general (most interested in video). Is this normal?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

after i did this, the camera just died, it doesnt turn ON by any means, i tried with different batteries, with completely charged batteries, with ac power, nothing

any ideas? :P

  • what are the options in built-in intervalometer? Can the interval be lower than one second? Is there a setting for unlimited number of images or is 9999 maximum it will allow?

  • what is the fastest burst mode that allows automatic exposure between frames?

  • what is the save delay in burst mode and can it save previous shot while taking next one? In practice, can the equivalent of 360 degrees shutter angle be achieved at any shutter speed?

LX7 or GF6 + 14mm for video? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10273/lx7-or-gf6-14mm-for-video Tue, 29 Apr 2014 00:31:00 +0000 stereotype 10273@/talks/discussions Planning to get either an LX7 or a GF6 to use as a compact to always have with me, 25p video being my main use. Already own a GH3, looking for something lighter and cheaper so I can take anywhere without much worry, throw in the back seat of the car, film the kids at the beach, etc...

The two cameras are similar in size, and also more or less in price (after selling the GF6 kit lens). Also intend to be using an ND filter with either to help get the correct exposure for aimed frame rates. If getting the GF6, I'd be using the 14mm + ND both of which I already own (until I get hold of a Sigma 30mm DN to replace the 14mm, same filter size).

At 1080/25p, both seem to cap the video at 20Mbps, but not sure if the compression efficiency is similar?

Does anyone have any practical experience with these, mainly with regards to video quality?

Do they both have adjustable color modes for video like the GH3? Vivid, natural, etc? Can you tone saturation down, etc?

How nice is the LX7 lens? And how does one attach a filter to it? Do you just unscrew the lens cover, and that's it? Or do you need some sort of adapter? I've googled and youtubed, but still a bit confused about how to use those 37mm filters on the LX7...

I've compiled the following "pluses" for each of them:

  • LX7: Internal ND filter, slightly more pocketable, fast lens, slow-mo@100pfs.
  • GF6: Adjustable LCD, bigger sensor, changeable lens.

Any inputs? Which one you'd rather get?

Thanks!

I have a couple Nikon lenses (50mm f1.2, 70-300 f.4 and Metabones Speedbooster N m43) and an Oly Pen F 25mm with m43 adapter as well as the kit Panny lens, nothing I couldn't sell or transition with.

Portability, quality, and ease of use are primary considerations for photo HDR brackets for panoramic's mostly, shooting a video of an interview with a WWII vet w natural lighting, but nothing professionally, $1000 to $2000 range. If camera isn't worth fixing, is it worth anything?

Any recommendations?

It seems that some people say that it's possible with Viera Link turned off and resolution set to AUTO, but other say that doesn't work. I have some live shoots coming up where I'll need to feed a mixer 24p, and need to decide if something like an Atomos Connect is necessary for pulldown removal. I don't need SDI for run length, so I'd only be using these (in a practical sense) for pulldown removal.

Can anyone tell me if this is necessary with the most up to date firmware?

Panasonic G6 Spring promotion - help please... https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10018/panasonic-g6-spring-promotion-help-please... Tue, 01 Apr 2014 13:38:26 +0000 Spinsterboy 10018@/talks/discussions Hi,

long time PV user - first time poster.

I'd like to ask some opinions - Here in the UK Panasonic are about to launch a spring promotion (it's a bit hush hush) the deal is, you buy a GH3, and get the battery grip and a 22mm 1.4 Panny lens thrown in for good measure. (could be a 24mm though) anyway, I currently shot with a G6 making music videos and youtube stuff, but I do occasionally shoot higher end stuff. Do i trade in the G6 (and pray it then doesn't get hacked the week after) and trade up to the GH3, or stick with the G6?

I like the weather sealing feature, and the higher bitrates, but i'll miss peaking...

I read somewhere that the GH3 has a smaller sensor - is this right?

Will i see a big jump in quality? And if not is this deal too good to miss?

Thanks in advance,

Matt
