Since some time I’ve wanted to leave my camera without the strap but I also wanted to be able to re-strap it back again in a fast way. There are plenty commercial aplications that fulfill this need/wish but is much more fun create your own. This one I called LaZZo and is a design my brother and I developed. Unfortunately I didn’t take any documentation during the creation of the concept – many many hours of talking and exchanging groundbreaking ideas and personal experiences to then draw, first by hand then in computer 3d modeling software, renders of possible outputs, to follow rigorous anatomic and ergonomic tests – or process of making of it – even harder team work.

On the other hand being a fairy simple system, the only thing you’ll need is 1/2 a meter of a strong string/line/rope. We used a military grade one that AM had, you can also go with mountain line or kevlar… the stiffer the hardest to get loose. The only thing is that has to be strong enough and fit into your camera shackle

And this is AM AM, mi brother, and not twister    •    gashô

"We can, for the first time, make long-exposure images that resolve objects just 0.02 arcseconds across – the equivalent of a dime viewed from more than a hundred miles away. At that resolution, you could see a baseball diamond on the moon."

The twofold improvement over past efforts rests on the fact that for the first time, a telescope with a large diameter primary mirror is being used for digital photography at its theoretical resolution limit in visible wavelengths – light that the human eye can see.

"As we move towards shorter wavelengths, image sharpness improves," said Jared Males, a NASA Sagan Fellow at the UA's department of astronomy. "Until now, large telescopes could make the theoretically sharpest photos only in infrared – or long wavelength – light, but our new camera can take photos that are twice as sharp in the visible light spectrum."

To overcome atmospheric turbulence, which plagues earth-based telescopes by causing the image to blur, Close's team developed a very powerful adaptive optics system that floats a thin (1/16th of an inch) curved glass mirror (2.8 feet across) on a magnetic field 30 feet above the telescope's primary mirror.

This so-called Adaptive Secondary Mirror (ASM) can change its shape at 585 points on its surface 1,000 times each second, counteracting the blurring effects of the atmosphere.

The new adaptive optics system, called MagAO for "Magellan Adaptive Optics," has already made some important scientific discoveries, published today in three scientific papers in the Astrophysical Journal. As the system was being tested and received what astronomers call "first light," the team pointed it to a famous and well-studied massive star that gives the Great Orion Nebula (Object M42) most of its UV light. The Orion Nebula, located just below Orion's Belt visible as smudge of light even with regular binoculars.

Leica D-Lux and LX7 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7734/leica-d-lux-and-lx7 Fri, 09 Aug 2013 23:11:38 +0000 lione1983 7734@/talks/discussions Hi

I am new here and to photography too but i am rdy go deeper ;) a nicely hi too all.

maybe someone has some experiences with this sort of stuff and is able to do a hack or something about it. ;) would be very nice.

first intension to make this topic is that i do much HDRs last time and there is one really bad thing with original firmware on the Lx7: the lack of self timer bracketing and also the lack of a new firmware from panasonic that could maybe fix this.

second one results in some google sessions who tells me the following:

  • that the LX7 and D-Lux 6 are equivalent!
  • leica delivers new firmware updates
  • some old lx and d-lux are equivalent too and there are people using leica firmware on lx (lx3 or 5 got the ability i think) (?)
  • a search for the "leica style" and why the d-lux got it and panasonic (so-called !?) doesn't is only because the differences between the processing of the leica firmware and panasonics.

so why some others managed to do some nice hacking with the old ones why nobody does it on the lx7 ? (its a masterpiece of camera and i find nothing in this area only this forum because "the hacks" who impresses panasonic), its a nice thing to do, first because panasonic don't release a new firmware, second because the self timed bracketing and maybe the "leica style processing" for my beloved lx7. xD

please let me know what you think about my thoughts. i think they are not bad unfortunately i am not able to do hacking (it's a lie, i got some skills in consoles but nothing big) and i bought my lx7 on rates, i got my cam just before 2 weeks and would cry like a little baby if i "brick" (on psportable a failed flash was called so here too ?^^) it while flashing and then i must pay the next months for a broken camera :/ xD

EXQUISITE CORPSE - a collaborative video proposal https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6989/exquisite-corpse-a-collaborative-video-proposal Sat, 18 May 2013 14:00:55 +0000 maxr 6989@/talks/discussions

Hey guys, allow me to take you away from latest tech news and developments for a "game" proposal. Do you know about the surrealist's cadavre exquis… well, case you don't

Exquisite corpse, also known as exquisite cadaver (from the original French term cadaver exquis) or rotating corpse, is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule (e.g. "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun") or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed.

WIKI

I always liked better the allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed version, so here's what I propose:

Anyone registered in PV can participate, just has to post a reply - so everything's transparent - and send me a private message, for email and download details. Order of participation will be same as registration.

Each participant will have 3 days to make a new shot, we're not recycling footage… is a question of experimentation process and flow ;)
there will be a max of 1 hour over the deadline. After that I'll unmercifully jump to next in list.

I'll take the dealer part, receiving the files and sending to next participant just the last (previous) one.

IF failing deadline or any of the below rules, I'll go on with next in list… nothing personal but pragmatism.

Resulting mess will be under Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs
CC BY-NC-ND creative commons license

All participants will receive a digital copy

RULES

  1. 1 Shot
  2. B&W only
  3. 1920x1080p24
  4. Between 1 and 5 sec
  5. In camera in&out and edit; no post edition, including sound and grading
  6. Any camera capable of above specs (remember B&W, 24p, etc.) allowed

Remember this is just a game so ENJOY!!!
I'll be second participant, only for practical reasons, as from then on I would have seen more than just the last piece.

So, whose the brave soul willing to start?!!!

Youtube dictionary https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7591/youtube-dictionary Wed, 24 Jul 2013 02:56:33 +0000 endotoxic 7591@/talks/discussions From YouTube source:

100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute YouTube reaches more US adults ages 18-34 than any cable network

Lets say is half of what they say... with all this data, it is impossible for an average person to see every video they have at this point in any human being life. Now that we have all this massive information...how can we handle it. Tagging shure works but it is always what the uploaded decides to associate with. But in real life the amount of data inside the video is bigger that any tag. How can we manage this information from the audio, color, theme, format actor, location, lights, camera, etc... I find the "video encyclopedia" term a little bit static and maybe obsolete for such a dynamic data managing. Any ideas?

To me, it's an important story, but the footage isn't that good.

I was to a large degree on the water, and as it turns out I am not a human gimbal, as is Rambo.

The Go Pro footage is okay.

The interviews are blown out.

No detail on the white T shirt.

The on-the-water sound with the lav and H1 self-destructed.

So.

Do I benefit by showing this, a story I'm attached to?

It's on the water, it's fun.

No pay, but a story I wanted to tell.

We are slaves of the brands? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7549/we-are-slaves-of-the-brands Thu, 18 Jul 2013 01:26:34 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 7549@/talks/discussions I anticipate that my English is bad.

When the episode of 'Dr House' was shot with a Canon 5D that was an event, not stop mentioning it on the internet. Then there have been more movies and short films using DSLR's Canon in whole or in any scene and usually tends to be highlighted, such as the case of 'The Avengers'.

Across the street I see is different, 'Musgo' was shot with a GH2, for some the first film made with a GH2 and was a success but not of such magnitude as 'Dr House', was following more in underground forums. (I want to clarify that 'Musgo' is not the first film shot with a GH2, another movie so spanish which was also before shot with a GH2 entitled 'Diamond Flash' in 2011, but the time difference is small, only few months, but it was released in 2011, 'Musgo' was released in 2013). Following the main idea 'Upstream Color' was filmed with GH2 and this fact was not so great repercussion. So too are some movies and a lot of short films made with a GH2 without much discussion.

Something similar happens in the case of films and shorts which uses Nikon, for example, few know that in the series 'Dexter' was used the Nikon D800, while 'Dr House' Canon case was known even people who dont know of cinema or photography, but I'm sure if it was with a Canon the news was a great event.

I see the camera as a means or a tool, really the important in a film is to have a good script -is preferable to have a good script and not a good camera with a bad script-, there are excellent movies that have a great script and the cinematography is austere and even loose, but the spectator is left with the memory of a good story. Sure, good cinematography helps a lot, the ideal is to have a balanced, although a great director can rescue a loose script or story ordinary. I see how many in the industry -mostly low budget- so focused in Canon cameras and I think that marketing has eaten the brain of many people, is obvious that if you feel comfortable with a particular camera is great to use it, but be more open and know isnt a mark problem, this causes ridiculous arguments from experts Canonboy that the GH2 has a video look (videoish). I'm sure if many of them see 'Upstream color' without know that camera was shot will comment; 'very good cinematography, great look', and it was made with a high budget camera, but if you tell thar was made with a GH2 will be conditioned in advance.

In my case I bought a GH2 after many inquiries on the internet, in my country everybody told me what buy Canon, the 550D was the only one that was close to my budget, but its video quality not convicting them and another cameras as the 5D is away much of my pocket and in a forum someone told me about the GH2 and as I have open mind I saw something that I liked and made inquiries understanding for that price I get quality near to cameras of high budget. I dont want to talk from me, just put my example, only what dont understand how some people are so focused on a brand, as if the mark were doing you a favor by using or as if you were paying you.

I have nothing to hide. I don't break the law, I don't write hate e-mails, I don't participate in any terrorist organizations and I certainly don't leak secret information to other countries/terrorists. The most the government will get out of reading my e-mails is that I went to see Now You See It last week and I'm excited the Blackhawks are kicking ass. If the government is able to find, hunt down, and stop a terrorist from blowing up my office building in downtown Chicago, I'm all for them reading whatever they can get their hands on. For my safety and for the safety of others so hundreds of innocent people don't have to die, please read my e-mails!

I live in a country generally assumed to be a dictatorship. One of the Arab spring countries. I have lived through curfews and have seen the outcomes of the sort of surveillance now being revealed in the US. People here talking about curfews aren't realizing what that actually FEELS like. It isn't about having to go inside, and the practicality of that. It's about creating the feeling that everyone, everything is watching. A few points:

1) the purpose of this surveillance from the governments point of view is to control enemies of the state. Not terrorists. People who are coalescing around ideas that would destabilize the status quo. These could be religious ideas. These could be groups like anon who are too good with tech for the governments liking. It makes it very easy to know who these people are. It also makes it very simple to control these people.

Lets say you are a college student and you get in with some people who want to stop farming practices that hurt animals. So you make a plan and go to protest these practices. You get there, and wow, the protest is huge. You never expected this, you were just goofing off. Well now everyone who was there is suspect. Even though you technically had the right to protest, you're now considered a dangerous person.

With this tech in place, the government doesn't have to put you in jail. They can do something more sinister. They can just email you a sexy picture you took with a girlfriend. Or they can email you a note saying that they can prove your dad is cheating on his taxes. Or they can threaten to get your dad fired. All you have to do, the email says, is help them catch your friends in the group. You have to report back every week, or you dad might lose his job. So you do. You turn in your friends and even though they try to keep meetings off grid, you're reporting on them to protect your dad.

2) Let's say number one goes on. The country is a weird place now. Really weird. Pretty soon, a movement springs up like occupy, except its bigger this time. People are really serious, and they are saying they want a government without this power. I guess people are realizing that it is a serious deal. You see on the news that tear gas was fired. Your friend calls you, frantic. They're shooting people. Oh my god. you never signed up for this. You say, fuck it. My dad might lose his job but I won't be responsible for anyone dying. That's going too far. You refuse to report anymore. You just stop going to meetings. You stay at home, and try not to watch the news. Three days later, police come to your door and arrest you. They confiscate your computer and phones, and they beat you up a bit. No one can help you so they all just sit quietly. They know if they say anything they're next. This happened in the country I live in. It is not a joke.

3) Its hard to say how long you were in there. What you saw was horrible. Most of the time, you only heard screams. People begging to be killed. Noises you've never heard before. You, you were lucky. You got kicked every day when they threw your moldy food at you, but no one shocked you. No one used sexual violence on you, at least that you remember. There were some times they gave you pills, and you can't say for sure what happened then. To be honest, sometimes the pills were the best part of your day, because at least then you didn't feel anything. You have scars on you from the way you were treated. You learn in prison that torture is now common. But everyone who uploads videos or pictures of this torture is labeled a leaker. Its considered a threat to national security. Pretty soon, a cut you got on your leg is looking really bad. You think it's infected. There were no doctors in prison, and it was so overcrowded, who knows what got in the cut. You go to the doctor, but he refuses to see you. He knows if he does the government can see the records that he treated you. Even you calling his office prompts a visit from the local police. You decide to go home and see your parents. Maybe they can help. This leg is getting really bad. You get to their house. They aren't home. You can't reach them no matter how hard you try. A neighbor pulls you aside, and he quickly tells you they were arrested three weeks ago and haven't been seen since. You vaguely remember mentioning to them on the phone you were going to that protest. Even your little brother isn't there.

4) Is this even really happening? You look at the news. Sports scores. Celebrity news. It's like nothing is wrong. What the hell is going on? A stranger smirks at you reading the paper. You lose it. You shout at him "fuck you dude what are you laughing at can't you see I've got a fucking wound on my leg?"

"Sorry," he says. "I just didn't know anyone read the news anymore." There haven't been any real journalists for months. They're all in jail.

Everyone walking around is scared. They can't talk to anyone else because they don't know who is reporting for the government. Hell, at one time YOU were reporting for the government. Maybe they just want their kid to get through school. Maybe they want to keep their job. Maybe they're sick and want to be able to visit the doctor. It's always a simple reason. Good people always do bad things for simple reasons.

You want to protest. You want your family back. You need help for your leg. This is way beyond anything you ever wanted. It started because you just wanted to see fair treatment in farms. Now you're basically considered a terrorist, and everyone around you might be reporting on you. You definitely can't use a phone or email. You can't get a job. You can't even trust people face to face anymore. On every corner, there are people with guns. They are as scared as you are. They just don't want to lose their jobs. They don't want to be labeled as traitors.

This all happened in the country where I live.

You want to know why revolutions happen? Because little by little by little things get worse and worse. But this thing that is happening now is big. This is the key ingredient. This allows them to know everything they need to know to accomplish the above. The fact that they are doing it is proof that they are the sort of people who might use it in the way I described. In the country I live in, they also claimed it was for the safety of the people. Same in Soviet Russia. Same in East Germany. In fact, that is always the excuse that is used to surveil everyone. But it has never ONCE proven to be the reality.

Maybe Obama won't do it. Maybe the next guy won't, or the one after him. Maybe this story isn't about you. Maybe it happens 10 or 20 years from now, when a big war is happening, or after another big attack. Maybe it's about your daughter or your son. We just don't know yet. But what we do know is that right now, in this moment we have a choice. Are we okay with this, or not? Do we want this power to exist, or not?

You know for me, the reason I'm upset is that I grew up in school saying the pledge of allegiance. I was taught that the United States meant "liberty and justice for all." You get older, you learn that in this country we define that phrase based on the constitution. That's what tells us what liberty is and what justice is. Well, the government just violated that ideal. So if they aren't standing for liberty and justice anymore, what are they standing for? Safety?

Ask yourself a question. In the story I told above, does anyone sound safe?

I didn't make anything up. These things happened to people I know. We used to think it couldn't happen in America. But guess what? It's starting to happen.

I actually get really upset when people say "I don't have anything to hide. Let them read everything." People saying that have no idea what they are bringing down on their own heads. They are naive, and we need to listen to people in other countries who are clearly telling us that this is a horrible horrible sign and it is time to stand up and say no.

Vienna meeting proposal, Austria (19 July 2013) https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7452/vienna-meeting-proposal-austria-19-july-2013 Sun, 07 Jul 2013 09:07:06 +0000 ahbleza 7452@/talks/discussions Since there aren't really a lot of PV members here in Austria, I felt that a more general meetup for filmmakers would be appropriate, so I created one:

In addition, my company decided to sponsor a prize for best script, with €6.000 value prize to create a short film in Vienna.
