Más claro: ¿el mundo tiene los elementos hoy, materiales, como para hacer posible que 7 mil, 8 mil millones de personas puedan tener el mismo grado de consumo y de despilfarro que tienen las más opulentas sociedades occidentales?

¿Será posible, o tendremos que darnos algún día otro tipo de discusión? Porque hemos creado una civilización en la que estamos, hija del mercado, hija de la competencia, que ha deparado un progreso material portentoso y explosivo, pero lo que fue economía de mercado ha creado sociedades de mercado y nos ha deparado esta globalización – que significa mirar por todo el planeta – y ¿estamos gobernando la globalización o la globalización nos gobierna a nosotros?

¿Es posible hablar de solidaridad y de que estamos todos juntos en una economía que está basada en la competencia despiadada?

¿Hasta dónde llega nuestra fraternidad?

Nada de esto lo digo para negar la importancia de este evento. No. Es por el contrario. El desafío que tenemos por delante es de una magnitud, de carácter colosal, y la gran crisis no es ecológica, ¡es política!

El hombre no gobierna hoy las fuerzas que ha desatado, sino que las fuerzas que ha desatado lo gobiernan al hombre. Y la vida.

Porque no venimos al planeta para desarrollarnos en términos generales. Venimos a la vida intentando ser felices. Porque la vida es corta y se nos va. Y ningún bien vale como la vida. Y esto es elemental, pero si la vida se me va a escapar trabajando y trabajando para consumir un plus, y la sociedad de consumo es el motor, porque en definitiva si se paraliza el consumo o si se detiene, se detiene la economía, y si se detiene la economía es el fantasma del estancamiento para cada uno de nosotros.

Pero ese hiperconsumo a su vez es el que está agrediendo al planeta, y tiene que generar ese hiperconsumo cosas que duren poco porque hay que vender mucho. Y una lamparita eléctrica no puede durar más de mil horas prendida. Pero hay lamparitas eléctricas que pueden durar cien mil, doscientas mil horas, pero esas no se pueden hacer porque el problema es el mercado, porque tenemos trabajar y que tenemos que tener una civilización de use y tire, y estamos en un círculo vicioso.

¡Estos son problemas de carácter político! que nos están diciendo la necesidad de empezar a luchar por otra cultura. No se trata de plantearnos volver al hombre de las cavernas, ni tener un monumento del atraso. Es que no podemos indefinidamente continuar gobernados por el mercado, sino que tenemos que gobernar al mercado.

Por eso digo que el problema es de carácter político. En mi humilde manera de pensar. Porque los viejos pensadores definían – Epicuro, Séneca, los Aimara – “pobre no es el que tiene poco, sino verdaderamente pobre es el que necesita infinitamente mucho y desea y desea y desea más y más“. ¡Esta es una clave de carácter cultural!

You like taking photos with a 50mm lens, right? Let’s say you’re working with Micro Four Thirds camera options. In order to get a 50mm field of view, you need to slap a 25mm lens on your camera. But guess what? That 25mm lens will still act like a 25mm lens. It will be just as distorted and even though you’re still using the center area of the lens more or less you’ll still get all the problems that a lens like that faces.

The generally accepted portrait focal length is an 85mm or longer. Now again, I’m not talking about an 85mm equivalent field of view on Micro Four Thirds. I’m saying that I need at least an 85mm focal length.

Kind of an odd request. We're making a low-budget music video, and I've been asked to source a video we can play on a Mac which looks like a trading screen, with numbers constantly changing, in darker colours. Any thoughts where I could source something like this? If there was the budget, I'd ask my VFX guys to mock up something, but we need something for free.

The interface doesn't need to be interactive -- it just needs to keep moving, and we can loop it after 30 seconds or so. It will run in the background, so details aren't important -- but the visual look is.

I've come across some websites and ebay selling refurbished Iphones and Ipads at quite heavy discount but they are locked down because the previous owner cannot be traced. (Yes realise highly suspicious, and most likely stolen) They claim the units have been recovered from recycle centres and been repaired.

My apologies for the dumb question in advance.

I was lucky enough to be shooting a film on the Arri Alexa and our go to lens started to become a 40mm.

I just upgraded my GH2 to a GH4 and I was curious what lens would equal a 40mm.

Right now I own:

• SLR Magic 12mm
• SLR Magic 25mm
• Noctitron 42.5mm

I assumed something like a 16mm would get me close to a 40mm? But, I'm not sure about the math here. I was under the impression with the GH2 it was roughly double. So, a 25mm on a GH2 = a 50mm in the 35mm film world. But, I'm pretty sure the GH4 has a different crop.

I mean the Pocket now shoots higher bit rates across the board plus RAW. Is there a reason to hold onto my GH2?

I've been researching this camera for a while now before I decide to buy it, and a personal problem for me is wider angles, given how the widest I can go is 2.24x with C4k. I'd read a wishlist of ideas for a GH4 hack allowing full sensor width capture at 4608x1920 (2.4:1), which would be awesome. Although, this raised the question for me as to whether or note a full sensor readout of 4608x2592 (16:9) is possible?

As far as I know, 4k writing speed had been clocked at 12.5mb/sec. Assuming the 4k (8.3mp) is written at 12.5mb/s, and C4k (8.85mp) at a slightly higher rate, how taxing would it really be for the camera to record at a full sensor 4608x2592 (12mp)? If we were to simply crunch the number in mp, full sensor 16:9 capture would be 1.44 times the file size, meaning it'd require an 18mb/s writing speed. Also, if that full width recording, 4608x1920 (8.85mp), was hacked for, it doesn't seem to me that it should be any more taxing on the camera and the cards.

I mostly bring this up because of the crop factor, though the increase in resolution for 16:9 would be sweet, frankly. Personally, I'm interested in the GH4 for shorts, so a 4608x1920 recording would still be a wet dream come true, but C4k suffices for the time being. My interest in 16:9 is for potential client work. These are just a few thoughts on possible hacks, custom/2.35 grid lines would be sweet.

Hope this doesn't arouse the ire of pressured hackers, just some thoughts. Thanks for reading :)
