Bit rate over-rated??? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12914/bit-rate-over-rated Sat, 02 May 2015 07:31:27 +0000 Mysteryman3 12914@/talks/discussions How much is bit rate overrated??? How important is the bitrate? I have a handycam and it will not go higher then 10 mbit, it is my favorite camcorder because I can put into my pocket easy and carry. Maybe a hidden gem? It is old and not new. It uses the MPEG codec and does not have alot of pixels, but has DVD quality. Probably has a great lens and great small sensors and engine? The overall image does has a few things in the image that other camera's not have that much? You can see nice colors, reflections, shadows in certain situations and has a great 25p framerate with 3ccd sensors.

AVCHD is really not a that great codec is what I read. I tried a few Full HD camera's and sometimes it dissapoints on a few areas, especially low light. Not sure if there is a perfect camera? Anybody knows about some hidden gems in video camcorder land? I really want a Full HD camcorder that has also that much reflections as my old cam corder and just has that nice colors and overall great performance.

What people think about the sony rx100 m3 I also like the image reflections in it but it does not focus that good is what I read. But really small and has a new codec? How well that AVC S codec or something like that works??? I can't even edit HD on my old pc.

Why M4/3 is special size sensor https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12860/why-m43-is-special-size-sensor Thu, 23 Apr 2015 01:29:50 +0000 endotoxic 12860@/talks/discussions MFT format sensor.

first size and cost and weight. No one can beat size performance. shape 4:3 perfect for multiaspect.

the shutter 40 for 24p. it was all about cadence and motion blur. To properly emulate certain texture and movement. those topics are already understood and well documented.

But the theory i have is more from the optical/sensor perspective. I said in a previous thread that m4/3 sensors are special for the human eye. You see, the usable human retina is about 21mm diagonal in diameter in a standard adult, The size of the retina is very similar to the m4/3 format sensor which is 22mm diagonal.

For me this is very important, since the lens you use will behave very similar to your eye, if there was a lenses in front of it. there is something about from f2.8 to f3.5 that you can position your self when you use the EVF and connect only one eye to camera and immerse in video mode on your head. The characteristics of this size sensor and the way it behaves on camera is quiet similar on how you see on day to day.

Yes Yes, each focal length at different apertures on different sensors can achieve similar effect. But no the one m4/3 does.

is like the old battle from full frame to smaller sensor, there is some big bokeh to achieve on 5DMKIII or D800 that m4/3 would have to make a trick to achieve but the other way is also doable, but on each part the result always are not only different (they can look similar) but the characteristics are different. The behaviour is the key.

So for me is a special sensor size, maybe i cant explain it very well, but for narrative purpose this format works for me better than super 35mm sensor.

maybe im crazy, but super 16, super 35 look grate full frame excellent, but m4/3 its more real. human retina sensor size and optic characteristics brings an special look and feel not possible withe smaller or bigger sensors.

for me sweet spot.

Myth of the Strong and Growing Middle Class in US https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12848/myth-of-the-strong-and-growing-middle-class-in-us Wed, 22 Apr 2015 04:03:34 +0000 matt_gh2 12848@/talks/discussions About half in US just barely get by or are poor. This is in contrast to politicians talking about a "strong middle class" and Oprah doing shows where supposedly average women are all buying special scented soaps, snazzy towels, and many other nice things for the house. Reality is median household income is $51,000. Adding up all taxes yields $17,000 to $25,000 in taxes depending on how you calculate. Assuming $20,000 in tax, that leaves $31,000...or $2583/month for a family of four. That's a tight budget. Not quite what's presented by media and politicians. (Of course many countries significantly worse.)

I'm sure many are aware of this, but thought many may not be, so here it is. Well anyway, guess my GH2 can be considered luxury now.

Its a known issue that seems to be affecting all Panasonic AVCHD camera files - users are reporting it with AC160/130 HMC150 and AF100 - I'm guessing it will affect GH2/3/4 etc also

really big problem, hopefully to be fixed soon

Shortly, I'm about to embark on a two up motorcycle journey from Jo'Burg to Swaziland and back. There are two panniers, each 31 litres for all our stuff. I hope to make two off, eight minute episodes about the trip and the places we visit.

I've allowed 10 litres of space, and here's a photo of all the kit, which actually is a bit off because I've realised the chargers are not shown.

Whats here is:

  • 5D3 with recent Magic Lantern, 2 Off 64GB 1000x cards, 1 Off 32GB 1000x card, 1 Off 128GB 1066x card
  • 24-70 f2.8 lens
  • GoPro 4 Black with 4 off 32GB Class 10 cards
  • H4N with 32GB Class 10 card
  • HHG-01 Gimbal
  • AS312 light
  • Rode Lavalier Microphone
  • Gorilla Pod
  • Fishing pole, shorted to 2.7 metres modified with 1/4 inch thread to take a clamp for the gimbal for high shots
  • Billingham 255 bag (just out of view)

I'm feeling that I'm going to be wishing I had the 70-200 Lens. I've made tests using the Gorilla pod as a shoulder rest, more practice needed.

I've been out a couple of times with just that lot in the bag, seems like I'll need to get creative!

Sony Rumored to Be Working on an 8K Mirrorless Full Frame Camera For 2016 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12730/sony-rumored-to-be-working-on-an-8k-mirrorless-full-frame-camera-for-2016 Fri, 03 Apr 2015 07:45:41 +0000 firstbase 12730@/talks/discussions Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere (search didn't reveal anything)...

The report comes from sonyalpharumors, which tells us that at least two “good sources” have informed them of this camera. The camera is said to be similar in design to the current Sony A99, so it may be a top-of-the-line mirrorless camera featuring a DSLR-style body.

Sources are saying that Sony has been showing the camera to certain potential clients, and that the prototype camera may become official and arrive in time for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The company is reportedly telling people to “consider moving to Sony today because in 18-24 months you’ll be wishing your team were already comfortable with it.”
