Philips Momentum 436M6VBPAB 1000nits HDR monitor https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19551/philips-momentum-436m6vbpab-1000nits-hdr-monitor Wed, 25 Apr 2018 16:29:16 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 19551@/talks/discussions

Today EPI, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips monitors, announces the new Philips Momentum 43" 4K HDR Quantum Dot Monitor (436M6VBPAB), the world's first HDR1000 monitor with the new Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) DisplayHDR 1000 Certification. The Momentum also features Ambiglow technology. The Philips Momentum 436M6's combination of HDR 1000 with Ambiglow leads to an incredibly immersive entertainment viewing experience.

image

The Momentum 436M6 features Quantum Dot Color and DisplayHDR 1000 for a wider range of more accurate colors -- especially dark reds and greens -- that stay crisp and clear even in bright light. DisplayHDR 1000 delivers a dramatically different visual experience. With a peak brightness of up to 1,000 cd/m^2^, incomparable contrast and captivating color, images come to life with much greater brightness while also featuring much deeper, more nuanced darks. It renders a fuller palette of rich new colors seen on the display.

DisplayHDR is the display industry's first fully open standard specifying HDR quality. This standard spans across three performance tiers: DisplayHDR 400 (baseline), 600 (mid-range) and 1000 (high-end). These specifications are established using eight specific parameter requirements and associated test including: three peak luminance tests, two contrast measurement tests, color testing of the BT.709 and DCI-P3 color gamuts, bi-depth requirement test and a HDR response performance test.

"As with any new technology there can be confusion out there regarding HDR specs and benefits. VESA's new DisplayHDR standard will make monitor shopping easier by offering consumers a comparable standard to judge HDR picture performance between monitors," stated Chris Brown, Philips Monitors Global Marketing Manager, TPV. "We are very excited to launch the world's first DisplayHDR 1000 monitor, the Philips Momentum 43-inch 4K Display. DisplayHDR 1000 level of picture performance will offer a more intense gaming and entertainment experience. The contrast and color really bring action scenes alive, like we've never seen before."

The Momentum 436M6 uses Ambiglow technology to add a new dimension to the entertainment viewing experience. This innovative technology enlarges the screen by creating an immersive halo of light around the outside of the screen. It uses a fast internal processor to analyze the incoming image content and continuously adapts the color and brightness of the emitted light to match the image. Users can adjust the ambience to their liking. It's a unique and immersive viewing experience especially suited for watching movies, sports or playing games.

With its 4K UHD resolution, the Momentum 436M6 can take advantage of MultiView technology. MultiView enables active dual connect so that you can work with multiple devices like PC and Notebooks simultaneously, making complex multi-tasking work a breeze. It's easy to watch a live football feed from a set-top box on one side, while playing a gaming console on the other. This technology makes the Momentum 436M6 perfect for extreme productivity or entertainment.

The Philips Momentum 436M6 will be available later this summer for $999.99.

Atomos Sumo monitor and recorder https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16804/atomos-sumo-monitor-and-recorder Tue, 25 Apr 2017 23:12:52 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 16804@/talks/discussions image

PR

The first production monitor that also records 4K 12bit Raw, 10bit ProRes/DNxHR, plus 1080p60 live switching and recording

Melbourne, Australia – 23rd April 2017: Atomos once again redefines the workflow options for video creatives by creating the first production/studio monitor to combine a 19” HDR 1200nit 10+ stop panel with 4K 12bit Raw or 10bit 422 ProRes/DNxHR recording and HD recording up to 240p or live switching and recording of four 1080p60 channels.

Adding HDR and 1200nit brightness to a 19” monitor at an MSRP of $2,495 is an amazing feat itself, but the addition of recording, switching and playback is a true revolution, completely redefining how production monitors will be used on set and in studio. It gives clients and crew on set instant access to review recorded content in HDR quality and doubles as a grading and editing monitor for laptops in the field. The live switching and recording is another dimension again adding the flexibility to live switch between four 1080/60p channels, record 4 x ISO channels and mix a live record complete with cueing, cross fade and hard cuts.

“Seeing innovation come to life is the most exciting part of making technology products. Sumo is one of the most remarkable video products I have worked on.” said Jeromy Young CEO and co-founder of Atomos. “Versatile and highly advanced yet simple to use, it covers all kinds of high quality production from end to end at a fraction of traditional costs. The Atomos Sumo is truly revolutionary”.

Go HDR. In the field & the studio

Sumo’s 19” 1920x1080 10-bit LCD panel is driven by the AtomHDR engine which precisely maps the Log/PQ/HLG from popular cameras, game consoles or TV makers to perfectly resolve 10+ stops of HDR in real time. The brightness range and vivid colors of HDR bring scenes to life either on the monitor itself, or when output to larger HDR/Rec709 displays for on set review. It can also be used with popular NLE or grading suites for affordable HDR or SDR editing or grading in the studio.

12-bit Raw, 10-bit ProRes/DNxHR up to 4Kp60

Capture the RAW output from Sony FS5/FS7/FS700, Canon C300MKII/ C500 or Panasonic Varicam LT over SDI up to 12-bit 4Kp30 as CDNG or 10-bit Apple ProRes / Avid DNxHR up to 4Kp60 / 2Kp240 depending on the camera’s capability. The processing power of Sumo can preserve pristine quality direct from the sensor with data rates of up to 3.2 Gbps. Record direct to high capacity and widely available 2.5" SSD's that provide an affordable solution for long recording times.

Live Switch and Record up to four 1080/60p channels, 4 x ISO record and playback

Switch and mix a live record and stream or record 4 x HD ISO recordings using the QuadLink SDI connections. Switch between feeds on screen with cueing, cross fade and hard cuts from the locked sources or tag and adjust final edits with advanced metadata tagging preserving ISO feeds, with the desired final result infinitely editable.

Balanced XLR Monitor & Record with 48V Phantom

Eliminate the need for a separate audio recorder by using the full size XLR connections to connect and power external microphones for balanced analogue audio with dedicated meters and adjustments for frame delay and gain. 48V phantom mics or line level audio are all seamlessly synchronized for the most advanced audio feature set in a monitor today. There is also a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and built-in speakers for on set instant immersive review or complete internal recording review anytime anywhere with clients or production team.

High Bright 1200nit 19” calibrated 1920x1080 monitor

The extremely bright 1200nit display means you can accurately monitor, even when outside in daylight. Additionally, for the ultimate isolated viewing performance an optional hood is available. Like all high-end monitor’s, Sumo also has calibration to compensate for the natural color and brightness drift that monitors exhibit over time. Sumo’s calibration input lets you use X-Rite’s i1DisplayPro to always ensure accurate HDR and Rec709 monitoring.

Quad SDI & HDMI 2.0 in/out

Seamlessly connect any SDI or HDMI device and convert between HDMI 2.0 & 3G QuadLink/6G/12G SDI in any combination. Quad SDI inputs connect cameras with multiple 1.5 or 3G SDI outputs without the need for converters. HDMI 2.0 supports up to 4Kp60 input/output along with the very latest Atomos open protocol that supports HDR automation including importing of camera settings. There is also support for Genlock and LTC timecode.

Rugged construction and mounting options

The Aluminium alloy chassis with built-in armor houses ten mounting points around the bezel/top/bottom/side, a rear panel VESA mount and an included stand for a variety of mounting configurations. The optional mounting plates connect 2 x V-Lock / Anton Bauer batteries which in tandem with our patent pending continuous power system allows batteries to be hot swapped to ensure you’re never without power in the field. The Sumo delivers all of this connectivity while still maintaining a total weight of 6.2kg (13.7lb).

The 19” Atomos Sumo will launch in Q3 2017 for an MSRP US$2,495.

DisplayHDR Test Tool released https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19687/displayhdr-test-tool-released Fri, 11 May 2018 11:31:14 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 19687@/talks/discussions

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA^®^) today released a new DisplayHDR™ test tool that allows users to confirm the display parameters set forth in VESA's High-Performance Monitor and Display Compliance Test Specification (DisplayHDR), including brightness, color and contrast performance of high dynamic range (HDR) laptop and desktop monitors. The new DisplayHDR Test tool has a command line interface that enables professional and lab-level users to test and evaluate HDR displays at the three performance levels outlined in the DisplayHDR spec using an off-the-shelf calibration colorimeter. VESA also announced today that it has seen strong momentum in the adoption of its DisplayHDR standard, with several new certified displays being introduced this calendar quarter.

Growing Momentum of DisplayHDR Standard with Launch of First DisplayHDR 1000 Certified Display

Announced in December 2017, DisplayHDR is the display industry's first fully open standard specifying HDR quality. To date, nearly a dozen displays have been certified under the new spec across the three performance tiers (DisplayHDR 400, 600 and 1000) and released to the market. Among these is the first display to be officially certified for the DisplayHDR 1000 specification - the recently announcedPhilips Momentum 43-inch 4K display (436M6VBPAB). VESA anticipates many more display products to complete certification this year. Future releases of the spec are expected to reach beyond LCD to address other display technologies, including organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), as well as higher HDR performance levels. All tiers require support of the industry standard HDR-10 format.

Transparent testing methodology without costly and cumbersome hardware

To verify HDR display performance, the DisplayHDR Test tool projects the display patterns defined in the published VESA DisplayHDR certification tests onto the screen. The user then points a self-provided colorimeter at the test patterns and uses the colorimeter's software to measure and record the display's capabilities. These results can be entered into a separate program to compute the final score and make an accurate assessment. Future versions of the test application may drive the sensor in the test tool and compute the score directly.

Chas Boyd, principal program manager with Microsoft Corp., noted that the DisplayHDR Test tool app has an important role to play, in concert with the specification, to help drive adoption of HDR technology. "HDR is still not well understood by consumers, and there exists a unique opportunity to educate and drive awareness in the market regarding the entry point for HDR," said Boyd. "Using this tool will allow those considering moving to HDR monitors to assess the quality for themselves and encourage them to make the leap."

"As a leading monitor controller manufacturer, MStar provides a broad range of chip sets that enable consumers to experience the latest immersive display technologies, such as HDR, in their end products. Working within the VESA organization, we have teamed up with key players across the display ecosystem to establish a shared, open HDR standard for the PC industry that ensures all of the key display components involved in enabling HDR work together, including the panel, GPU, backlighting and other display electronics. We are proud to be a part of this important industry-wide endeavor," stated Kevin Tseng, general manager of Monitor BU, MStar Semiconductor.

According to Vincent Chiou, associate vice president of the Display Business Unit of ASUS, "HDR promises to deliver an entirely new level of visual experience for consumers. Having co-worked closely with a clearly defined grading system like VESA's DisplayHDR standard, ASUS assures users that they are getting the display quality that they are asking for. This applies both to gamers and movie watchers who want more realism, and professional content developers who need more accuracy. Even the entry DisplayHDR performance level provides a very noticeable step-up in HDR quality for mainstream consumers, while the mid-range and high-range levels provide the serious photographer or professional artist the assurance they need when making a high-end product purchase. ASUS is leading the charge in this effort, with plans to introduce multiple products across all three performance tiers this year.

DisplayHDR Performance Parameters

The DisplayHDR specification establishes three HDR performance levels for PC displays -- DisplayHDR 400 (baseline), DisplayHDR 600 (mid-range) and DisplayHDR 1000 (high-end) -- using eight specific parameter requirements and associated tests. They comprise:

  • Three peak luminance tests (small spot/high luminance, brief period full-screen flash luminance, and optimized use in bright environments);
  • Two contrast measurement tests (native panel contrast and local dimming);
  • Color testing of the BT.709 and DCI-P3 color gamuts;
  • Bit-depth requirement test (stipulates minimum bit depth, confirmed via a simple visual test);
  • HDR response performance test (analyzes the speed at which the backlight can respond to changes in luminance levels, a key parameter for gaming and rapid action in movies).

A consumer-level version of the DisplayHDR Test tool will be available later this year, featuring a more consumer-accessible graphical user interface. The next release will also include a list of available colorimeters that meet the spec's requirements for accuracy and tolerance.

More information on the DisplayHDR specification and DisplayHDR Test tool, as well as a link to download the DisplayHDR Test tool, is available at www.displayhdr.org.

Eizo ColorEdge CG319X DCI-4K HDR monitor https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19476/eizo-coloredge-cg319x-dci-4k-hdr-monitor Tue, 17 Apr 2018 22:05:46 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 19476@/talks/discussions image

EIZO Corporation (TSE: 6737) today announced the new ColorEdge CG319X -- a 31.1-inch monitor with DCI-4K resolution (4096 x 2160) and HDR gamma support for the professional post production workflow. It is the successor model to the CG318-4K with several upgraded features.

Distinguishing it from its predecessor, the ColorEdge CG319X comes equipped with HLG (hybrid log-gamma) and the PQ (perceptual quantization) curve for displaying and editing HDR (high dynamic range) video content. The optimized gamma curves render images to appear more true to how the human eye perceives the real world compared to SDR (standard dynamic range). Having a monitor equipped with HDR gamma support ensures professional creators can reliably display HDR content during the editing process so it is ready for color grading at the end of the workflow.

ColorEdge CG319X is equipped with an upgraded built-in calibration sensor, which allows the user to continue to operate the monitor even during recalibration. The sensor swings onto the screen at a time designated by the user and takes up minimal space so work remains uninterrupted.^1 ^A built-in sensor eliminates the need for a third-party calibration device and ensures the screen stays color-accurate.

The monitor's wide color gamut reproduces 98% of the DCI-P3 color space used in the media and entertainment industry. In compliance with the DCI standard, the ColorEdge CG319X offers a high contrast ratio of 1500:1 for producing true blacks that are otherwise difficult to display on a typical LCD monitor. In addition, it is equipped with a retardation film which allows tones to retain their depth even when viewed from an angle.

The color and brightness of an LCD monitor can be affected by changes in ambient temperature of the monitor itself. The ColorEdge CG319X is equipped with an internal temperature sensor which detects those changes and adjusts the monitor so gradations, color, brightness, and other characteristics continue to be displayed accurately. The algorithm used in the AI (artificial intelligence)^ 2^ of the monitor allows it to perform this temperature detection and adjustment even at high brightness levels for providing a truly accurate viewing environment. In addition, EIZO's patented digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) technology also counterbalances the influences that a fluctuating temperature may have on color temperature and brightness for stable image display across the entire screen. The monitor also provides noiseless, fanless operation while still maintaining low heat output without impacting performance.

Additional Features

  • 3D LUT for individual color adjustment on an RGB cubic table
  • 10-bit simultaneous display from a 24-bit LUT for smooth color gradations^ 3^
  • DCI-4K resolution at 60 Hz via DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI input
  • Broadcast and cinema preset modes: EBU, Rec. 2020, Rec. 709, SMPTE-C, DCI, PQ, and HLG
  • Two DisplayPort and two HDMI inputs
  • Ergonomic stand which meets IEC/EN 62368-1
  • Light-shielding hood included
  • 5-year manufacturer's warranty^ 4^

EIZO will be showing the ColorEdge CG319X for the first time at the NAB Show 2018 in Las Vegas, USA from April 9 -- 12. Visit Booth SL15713 to see the product.

MELVILLE, N.Y., March 28, 2018 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today introduced two new professional 4K HDR Reference Displays: the 24-inch DP-V2421 and the 17-inch DP-V1711.

The new Canon DP-V2421 24-inch 4K professional reference display features a 12G-SDI terminal and delivers high luminance and high contrast, making it ideal for viewing 4K and HDR content in broadcasting studios and when producing on-location video. The 17-inch DP-V1711 features the same high-image-quality performance in a more compact design that not only makes it easy to transport for on-location shooting, but is also ideal for use in environments where space is limited, such as mobile production trucks.

Featuring 12G-SDI terminals (four IN and four OUT), the DP-V2421 and DP-V1711 allow for the easy transmission of 4K 60p footage with a single cable compared to reference displays that are equipped with only 3G-SDI terminals that require four cables for transmission of footage. The reduced number of cables can benefit users in several ways, including reduced costs, quicker installation time and saving space while on-location.

The DP-V2421 and DP-V1711 support industry standards, including Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantization (PQ). Both new displays also support Canon’s proprietary log gammas—Canon Log, Canon Log 2 and Canon Log 3— and feature convenient shooting assist functions for all HDR standards such as a built-in waveform monitor. The displays also feature built-in HDR metering, which overlays different areas of input images with colors depending on their luminance allowing for convenient review and confirmation of HDR images.

Optional Upgrade for Canon DP-V1710 and DP-V1711

Canon will also allow customers to upgrade, for a fee, their 17-inch models, the DP-V1710 and DP-V1711, increasing their maximum luminance to 600 cd/m2. Raising the maximum luminance improves the displays’ ability to express greater detail in bright areas of the screen—useful when reviewing high-luminance video in such environments as bright shooting locations or inside studios and relay vehicles.

The DP-V2421 and DP-V1711 are scheduled to be available the end of April 2018 for an estimated retail price of $39,000.00 and $18,000.00 respectively. For more information please visit, http://usa.canon.com/provideo .

Either go 8K 120Hz or SKIP it... https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18824/either-go-8k-120hz-or-skip-it... Fri, 19 Jan 2018 20:58:45 +0000 NickBen 18824@/talks/discussions Either go 8K 120Hz or SKIP it... Why?

I see a lot of early companies pimping "cheaper" 8K 60p solutions...

My advice: SKIP it!

I was one of the first adopters of 4K 24p, and believe me when I say a decent 4K 120 Hz display has more legs than a cheap 8K 60p, so wait back with what you have and put your money on 8K 120Hz when it hits your price point...

Posted from a recent market research analysis...

" research notes that Innolux started developing 8K panels in 2017, and produced its first 8K LCD TV display (60Hz, 65-inch) in Q4 2017, which will be supplied to Sharp and to Chinese TV makers in the start. Sharp also mass-produced its first 8K LCD TV display, a 70-inch model, in Q4 2017 to support the Sharp TV brand in China, IHS Markit pointed out, adding that Samsung and Sony also plan to release “flagship” 8K TV models later this year, and will “consume almost all” 120Hz 8K panels from Innolux, AUO and Samsung Display, with sizes ranging from 65 inches to 85 inches.

LG Display also introduced an 88-inch 8K OLED TV display this week at CES in Las Vegas.

The HDMI Forum and the HDMI Licensing Authority are likewise preparing for the 8K era with HDMI 2.1, a new spec for connectors and cables (released on Nov. 28, 2017) that will support resolutions up to 10K, data rates of 48 Gbps, as well as Dynamic HDR and other advanced features.

“This year, you’re actually going to see some commercial products” supporting 8K, Rob Tobias, president of HDMI LA, said at a press event XX at CES that provided an update on HDMI 2.1 efforts. He noted that the move to 8K will be driven in part by video productions being planned for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 2022 Winter Games to be hosted in Beijing."
