Canon Launches New 4K UHD Portable Zoom Broadcast Lenses

The New Broadcast Lenses Feature 45x Zoom, The Highest Zoom Ratio in Their Class

MELVILLE, N.Y., November 1, 2017 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced today two new portable 4K UHD broadcast lenses for use with broadcast cameras featuring 2/3-inch sensors: the Canon CJ45ex9.7B 4K UHD Portable Zoom Lens provides users with the highest zoom ratio in its class1, and the Canon CJ45ex13.6B 4K UHD Portable Zoom Lens features both the highest zoom ratio and longest focal length in its class1.

The Canon CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B lenses both feature a broad 45x zoom ratio and wide-angle focal length of 9.7 mm to 437 mm and 13.6 mm to 612 mm, respectively. Both telephoto zoom lenses are ideal pieces of equipment for Electronic Field Production (EFP) broadcast applications including wildlife/nature, sports, live events, documentaries, and helicopter/aerial. Additionally, both lenses are well suited for mid-size broadcast vans and surveillance applications.

“As the demand for more 4K UHD broadcasting continues to grow, Canon is constantly developing high-quality products to provide producers and broadcasters with outstanding optical performance,”said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A. “The CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B both support a variety of broadcast applications, enabling users to capture breathtaking 4K UHD image quality in a form factor that is both lightweight and compact.”

The CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B both employ Canon proprietary optical design technology that features optimal lens positioning using both fluorite and Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass. The use of these lens elements enable users to capture high-quality 4K UHD imagery from the center of the imaging field to the periphery and across the entire zoom range, making them ideal for a variety of shooting situations—from close-up shots all the way to wide shots such as panoramic views of large venues.

The form factor and operational controls of the lenses will be very familiar to users who have previously operated one of Canon’s award-winning HD lenses. The lenses are designed to meet the demands of the on-the-go broadcast shooter where lightweight and compact are key advantages, comparable to HD super telephoto lenses. Both lenses feature three 20-pin connectors for zoom control, focus control and access to the virtual terminal, even in full servo setup with focus and zoom controllers connected. Futhermore, a 16-bit absolute value encoder in the digital drive unit helps eliminate the need for any initialization, enabling users to simply turn on the camera and begin shooting.

Availability

The CJ45ex9.7B 4K UHD Portable Zoom Lens is scheduled to be available in April 2018*, while the CJ45ex13.6B will be available in May 2018*. New SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH DSLR Full-frame Lenses for Film-makers and cinematoghraphers

KREUZNACH, 02 April 2013 Schneider-Kreuznach has launched a completely new series of full-frame lenses, the “Xenon full-frame primes” . They have been especially developed for DSLR cameras with full-frame sensors for video shooting and can also be used with professional cine cameras. The new lenses will be available from the second half of 2013.

The series initially comprises three fixed focal lengths: T2.1/35mm, T2.1/50mm and T2.1/75mm. All lenses are suitable not only for Nikon and Canon DSLR full-format cameras with corresponding F or EOS bayonet mounts, but also professional film cameras with a PL mount. The product series will soon be expanded with wide angle and telephoto focal lengths.

“This series of prime lenses has been especially designed for full-frame sensors and meets users’ exceptionally high demands in terms of optical performance and ease of use,” says Daniela Kesselem, product manager at Schneider-Kreuznach. The lenses are color matched. Whether for commercials feature films, Xenon full-frame prime lenses provide film makers with optimum performance and reliability in all situations.

The full-frame lenses are designed for 4K resolution (4096 × 2304 pixels). They can be used with standard professional cine accessories like rigs, follow focus or matte boxes. Special features required for filming such as minimized breathing, a harmonious bokeh or reduced stray light have been optimized in the Xenon full-frame prime lenses.

Further product features of all Xenon full-frame prime lenses include:

  • A maximum aperture of T2.1 as well as identical external dimensions and positioning of the controls in all models
  • A circular aperture with 14 blades to ensure a harmonious bokeh
  • Robust cine-style lens mechanics
  • Manual, precise and reproducible focus settings with a 300° angle of rotation
  • Larger focus and distance scales for easier focusing even with greater distances, readable on both sides
  • M95 filter thread
  • Exchangeable bayonet interface

Expected - second half of 2013

SLR Magic Anamorphot 1,33x – 40 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16796/slr-magic-anamorphot-133x-40 Mon, 24 Apr 2017 03:43:17 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 16796@/talks/discussions image

SLR Magic is proud to announce the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1,33x – 40 (Compact) adapter for indie filmmakers. This product will be officially introduced during the upcoming 2017 NAB Show in the Las Vegas Convention Center. There will be a demo at the SLR Magic booth (Central Hall, C2663) during the NAB Show from 24 – 27th April 2017.

To achieve the much loved 2.35:1 scope aspect ratio, which gives a very pleasant, epic effect, filmmakers must crop off the top and bottom of standard 16:9 footage when using spherical lenses with modern digital cameras. As a result, 25% of sensor/negative information is discarded.

As a commitment to the film industry, SLR Magic developed this 1,33x-40 (Compact) anamorphic adapter to help filmmakers maximize their image quality by preventing this loss of vertical resolution.

The unique 1,33x squeeze factor uses the entire 16:9 sensor/negative area to achieve the desired 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The Anamorphot 1.33x – 40 (Compact) adapter does this by compressing a 33% wider field of view to fit the width of the 16:9 sensor/negative without compressing image height.

Modern professional cinema cameras have large sensors capable of capturing an image in the 2.35:1 format directly, using spherical lenses, but film makers still desire the anamorphic “look” which often limits them to using rare vintage lenses. These present a number of difficulties in practice, such as size, weight, lack of close focus, availability, high price, and the need for basic dual focus anamorphic skills. We sought to overcome such issues with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1,33x – 40 (Compact) adapter.

The SLR Magic Anamorphot 1,33x – 40 (Compact) adapter create a unique "artifact" such as horizontal lens flare, commonly referred to as anamorphic streaks, and may create slightly elongated bokeh when achromatic diopters are used. Over the history of cinema, these same stylish effects have contributed to the cinematic "look" of epic motion picture photography. Characteristics that shape this anamorphic “look” come from “front-mounted” anamorphic adapter designs such as the SLR Magic Anamorphot while “rear-mounted” anamorphic designs have more suppressed anamorphic characteristics.

This SLR Magic Anamorphot 1,33x – 40 (Compact) adapter is a small size, light weight, single focus anamorphic adapter designed to work with most camera kit lenses beyond 40mm (35mm equivalent) maintaining capability of the kit taking lens to use autofocus, offering a reliable, easy workflow and readily available solution in an affordable price for amateur or indie anamorphic shooters.

THE SLR Magic SLR Magic Anamorphot 1,33x – 40 (Compact) adapter (MSRP: $499 US) will be available from authorized SLR Magic dealers by end of May, 2017.

Additionally, the PZ-E1 can be controlled remotely using the Canon Camera Connect app4.

In addition to the new lens and power zoom adapter, Canon is introducing the first Canon-branded external microphone for the EOS system, the Canon Directional Stereo Microphone DM-E1. This new accessory microphone will help improve sound quality while shooting video, allowing users to rotate the direction of the microphone up and down from 90 to 120 degrees depending on the shooting situation. The DM-E1’s durable shock mount construction helps to reduce camera operation noise and lens drive sounds and is built to withstand the rigors of a variety of shooting situations. Featuring a frequency response range of 50Hz to 16kHz, the DM-E1 comes with a wind screen to help limit peripheral sound from wind and other outside factors, allowing shooters to utilize the microphone in a broad amount of shooting situations. Featuring a built-in power supply from a single “button-type” lithium cell battery, the DM-E1 also has a power indicator lamp allowing users to easily check its battery level.
