Canon EOS Ra https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23044/canon-eos-ra Sun, 10 Nov 2019 09:55:29 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 23044@/talks/discussions image

In the words of poet Quintus Ennius, "No one regards what is before his or her feet; we all gaze at the stars." Helping to gaze and capture the beauty of the stars and beyond, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the company's first full-frame mirrorless camera for astrophotography, the EOS Ra. This new camera was built off the EOS R system combining new features, such as four times greater transmittance of hydrogen-alpha (Hα) light of 656.3 nm compared to the original EOS R. For astrophotographers and hobbyists who enjoy capturing the detailed splendor of the night sky, the new EOS Ra will be an ideal camera to shoot with.

"Since the introduction of the EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera system last fall, Canon has remained committed to launching a line of impressive and innovative EOS R models and a strong variety of RF lenses and accessories to meet the needs of every skill level of photographer," said Kazuto Ogawa, president and chief operating officer, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "As a group of photographers who are passionate about capturing what we can't see with our naked eyes, the new EOS Ra is designed for astrophotographers looking to capture vivid imagery of the night sky."

Targeting the needs of astrophotographers, the new EOS Ra full-frame mirrorless camera incorporates many advanced features of the EOS R, such as RF mount design, a 30.3MP CMOS sensor, high-precision electronic viewfinder, high-sensitivity, low-noise performance and 4K time-lapse shooting. Optional accessories include an AC adapter kit, which allows the camera to be powered through an AC wall outlet or a battery-powered inverter, a BG-E22 battery grip and three EF-EOS R mount adapters to accommodate the entire range of over seventy EF & EF-S lenses.

Other features include:

  • Enhanced transmission of Hα rays (656.3 nm wavelength) through an infrared cutoff filter, helping to capture high-precision images of the deep-red wavelengths emitted by nebulae in vivid color, without any special camera alterations.
  • A 30x maximum magnification, allowing users to make extremely precise manual focus adjustments*.
  • Support for all Canon RF, EF and EF-S lenses (with the use of an optional EF-EOS R mount adapter), including more than 70 lenses from the EF series as well as RF series lenses, which deliver superb image quality. The variety of lenses, such as the large-diameter f/1.2 lenses, ultra-wide-angle lenses, and super-telephoto EF lenses, among others, are all well suited to help photographers to choose the best match for their specific astrophotography purposes.

Availability and Pricing

The Canon EOS Ra full-frame mirrorless camera is scheduled to be available in mid-December 2019 for an estimated retail price of $2,499.00 for the body only.

Canon EOS Rebel SL3 aka 250D - another attempt to sell you M50 guts https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21870/canon-eos-rebel-sl3-aka-250d-another-attempt-to-sell-you-m50-guts Tue, 09 Apr 2019 22:35:39 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 21870@/talks/discussions image

Combining ease-of-use with high-image quality, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today unveiled the EOS Rebel SL3 DSLR camera, the smallest and lightest product within the current EOS lineup. Weighing just 15.84 oz1, the EOS Rebel SL3 offers users a compact system delivering high-resolution images -- complete with an APS-C imaging sensor, DIGIC 8 Image Processor and 3.0-inch vari-angle LCD touchscreen as well as 4K video, a first for the EOS Rebel lineup. Compatible with Canon's full line of interchangeable EF and EF-S lenses, along with the ability to instantly send images to compatible smartphones through Auto Image Transfer via Wi-Fi® connectivity2, the EOS Rebel SL3 is the tool needed to empower aspiring photographers to capture gorgeous shots quickly and easily.

"Since its inception, the EOS Rebel product line has aimed to provide imaging excellence for entry-level visual storytellers," said Kazuto Ogawa, president and chief operating officer, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Therefore, it was imperative that the next step in the EOS Rebel journey include innovative features such as 4K video and DIGIC 8 Image Processor to meet the needs of emerging photographers, while living up to the high-image quality and compact size EOS Rebel DSLRs are known for."

The EOS Rebel SL3 carries a powerful 24.1 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, enabling users to snap photos and express themselves across a multitude of settings -- whether it be a beautiful night scene, stunning family-vacation destination or a picturesque landscape. The camera is equipped with Canon's DIGIC 8 processor -- first introduced in the EOS M50 and later built into the revolutionary EOS R full-frame mirrorless system. DIGIC 8 helps improve autofocus performance and allows for the processing of 4K video and 4K time-lapse movies -- helping budding videographers record scenes such as the colorful evening skyline in brilliant detail.

The EOS Rebel SL3 features autofocus (AF) capabilities, delivering nine AF points across the optical viewfinder. This includes a new Spot AF which allows users to focus on a precise area within the subject. The EOS Rebel SL3 is the first DSLR in the Canon EOS line to feature Dual Pixel CMOS AF3 with Eye Detection AF in Live View shooting mode. With its optical viewfinder and Live View LCD monitor, photographers can enjoy two different ways of shooting and customize their experience based on the scene. The system is also the first Canon EOS SLR to incorporate a Smooth Skin setting, which can help render skin tones as well as Creative Assist -- an interface by which users can check and seamlessly change shooting conditions in Live View4-- such as white balance or brightness -- in real time.

Additional key features of the EOS Rebel SL3 camera include:

  • Feature Assistant that guides and offers tips for more effective shooting
  • Continuous shooting mode up to 5.0 fps
  • Digital Lens Optimizer that corrects optical shifting automatically, even without a computer5

The EOS Rebel SL3 will be available toward the end of April for purchase in black and white color options for an estimated retail price of $599.99, for the body only and $749.99 for the body with a EF-S 18-55 f/4-5.6 IS STM lens*. For more information, please visit usa.canon.com.

Tragedy of Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Camera aka EOS R https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19261/tragedy-of-canon-full-frame-mirrorless-camera-aka-eos-r- Fri, 23 Mar 2018 10:22:50 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 19261@/talks/discussions So, Canon top management flopped with all latest mirrorless cameras.

Sales are bad. Making new lenses is scary. And actually whole mount can be abandoned soon.

So, what is the plan? Make fast FF prototype using pair of Digic 7 from EOS M50 and provide them to only few tightly controlled people.
At the same time make wide leaks campaign, make people feel like next big thing is coming. Also carefully prepare them for new mount.

But it is only one problem, final camera expected arrival is really late. Most probably they will use GH5 like announcement plan starting almost 6-9 month ahead and start around Photokina 2018. With real availability at mid 2019. And fully different sensor and LSI compare to prototype.

It is just one problem. Canon camera department can be part of Sony at the time.

Canon Blue Purple Lighting Color Bug? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20249/canon-blue-purple-lighting-color-bug Thu, 16 Aug 2018 21:38:28 +0000 Firworks 20249@/talks/discussions I've been researching a strange Canon bug and I thought this would be the place most capable of understanding/investigating the issue.

In searching the internet and talking to some people with various Canon cameras, it seems like many of them have an issue where in both video and JPEG stills, a bright blue light will become purple/pink. The intensity of it must be very high in order to cause this to happen, but I was talking to someone who said it ruined a paid gig they shot on the C300MkII at a company who's logo was blue and had lots of digital signage all over their facility which turned purple in the footage.

I've found sporadic reports of it on the 60D and the 5D Mk IV, but I don't have any Canon cameras to test this further. In looking at sample photos people have posted, I suspect that the issue is in software, where Canon is perhaps not truncating a pixel with an extremely high blue value but overwriting the adjacent red value for the next pixel instead. In some sample photos, I've gone to the blue channel, and selected every pixel which was pure white, then gone to the red channel and adjusted brightness down and you can get very close to what the original image should have been. Since this issue is not present in RAW, the issue seems to be beyond the sensor and in the software side of the camera possibly in Canon's JPEG processing since they Motion JPEG encoding for video and it is present there as well as JPEG stills.

Has anyone ever heard of / seen this issue before? It seemed interesting enough to research some more. Anyone with a Canon camera try shooting a bright blue LED light in either JPEG stills or video and report back if it does it. I wonder if every Canon camera will exhibit this behavior.
