Samsung Display intends to completely stop the unprofitable production of liquid crystal panels (LCD) for TVs as early as next month - 30 years after their release. "Samsung Display will stop supplying LCD panels in June," The Korea Herald reported, citing a source close to the supply of the panels.

The long-announced phase-out of LCDs will come as LCD prices continue to fall. This resulted in significant losses for Samsung Display, while Chinese competitors consolidated their market dominance through government subsidies and tax breaks. LCD is considered a legacy technology compared to OLED and QLED. According to Omdia, the price of 43-inch panels fell by 46% from September 2021 to May 2021, while 55- and 65-inch panels fell by 34% over the same period.

Samsung, once the world's largest supplier of LCD TV panels, has reduced its market share to 22% in 2014 and to 2% this year.

Capitalism: 5 million farms have disappeared in the EU during last 20 years https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27095/capitalism-5-million-farms-have-disappeared-in-the-eu-during-last-20-years Sat, 28 May 2022 14:26:25 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 27095@/talks/discussions

The number of farms in the European Union has fallen by a third over the past twenty years, from 15 million to 10 million, according to a report by the European Parliament think tank on May 28, according to the Dutch portal Nieuwe Oogst.

Over the next twenty years, that number could drop further, to about four million. In particular, small farms less than 5 hectares in Central and Eastern Europe will disappear.

It is emphasized that in some EU countries most of the farms have no more than 5 hectares of land. Thus, 85% of the 3.6 million farms in Romania are small.

According to the forecast of the European Parliament, agricultural production in the EU countries will be concentrated on a smaller number of large farms. The researchers note that the general trend is the consolidation and intensification, as well as the loss of family and traditional farms.

Europe cannot avoid constant price hikes - Vice President of the European Commission

European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager said in an interview with Handelsblatt that Europeans will have to put up with permanent price increases.

“A significant part of European industry relies on ultra-cheap energy from Russia, super-cheap Chinese labor and highly subsidized semiconductors from Taiwan. Europe knew about these risks, but showed only greed,” says Vestager.

Xiaomi Mi Band 7 presented https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27072/xiaomi-mi-band-7-presented Tue, 24 May 2022 16:39:28 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 27072@/talks/discussions image

The Mi Band 7 fitness bracelet received a 1.62-inch AMOLED display, while its predecessor had a 1.56-inch screen. The resolution is 490 × 192 pixels, and the maximum brightness reaches 500 cd/m2. The screen is covered with tempered glass with rounded edges.

The novelty received a battery with a capacity of 180 mAh, which should be enough for 14 days of work with “normal use”, as well as 9 days of work with “intensive use” of the bracelet. In any case, Xiaomi itself claims so. Note that the previous Mi Band 6 battery had a capacity of only 125 mAh, but the battery life was claimed to be similar. It is also noted that it will take about 2 hours to charge the Mi Band 7.

The new bracelet is able to measure heart rate and blood oxygen levels. At the same time, if the bracelet notices that the level of oxygen saturation in the blood is below 90%, the bracelet will alert the user with vibration.

Xiaomi has also improved the fitness component of the Mi Band 7. It has received support for 120 training modes, four professional sports modes, has learned to automatically detect when the user has started training, and will also offer the opportunity to compete with friends.

At the moment, Xiaomi Mi Band 7 debuted only in China, where it will go on sale for $36. The version with NFC support and payments via AliPay will cost $42. Pre-orders started today.

Logitech MX Master 3S Mouse https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27071/logitech-mx-master-3s-mouse Tue, 24 May 2022 15:51:56 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 27071@/talks/discussions

Logitech introduced the MX Master 3S mouse, which is an updated version of the popular MX Master 3 model. Visually, the MX Master 3S is very similar to the MX Master 3. A rather aggressive right-handed device design is complemented by a pair of scroll wheels (one for moving up / down, and the other - left / right). On the side surface there are three buttons, which can be interacted with using the thumb.

One of the main differences from the previous model is the presence of a sensor with a resolution of 8000 dpi (MX Master 3 uses a sensor with a resolution of 4000 dpi). According to the manufacturer, the left and right buttons of the new mouse are 90% quieter. When you press the mouse button, the tactile sensations are preserved, but the sound is more muffled. Despite having a higher resolution sensor, the mouse is intended for office work rather than gaming, mainly due to its comparatively low 125Hz polling rate.
