I just got my new GH2 and planing to use it to shoot stock video for my site. I'm looking for a hack that will give me the best image quality at 30p 1080. Mos of the clips I shoot are not longer then then 30 seconds and I I will be using the SanDisk Extreme 45MB C10.

I recently purchased a couple of GH2's and some fast lenses. I am going to be shooting videos of bands (rock, jazz, etc) playing in clubs and small halls. I need a hack that will allow long shooting times (1hr - 1.5hrs) and give good results with low light.

Any help or guidance would be MUCH appreciated.

I have Ptools v3.64d

1) Are there any settings that are incompatible with this version of Ptools?

In particular, can I use Ptools v3.64d to load:

Apocalypse Now 'Intravenus' v2 setting;

Flowmotion v2 setting;

cbrandin 66Mb/s AQ2 setting;

cbrandin 44Mb/s AQ2 setting;

I hope I stated this question correctly. If not, well, can I use Ptools v3.64d to load the above mentioned settings.

2) I guess how do I know which Ptools version works with which settings?

Well, I would like to know if someone could help me to know if my hack is working well. I was using this last month the 88Mbps United hack. The first problem : when I check the bitrate for the different video, it's never the same : I can have 38Mbitps, 44, 88... I was using a SDHC card 32Gb 45MB/s class10. I check the bitrate by right click on video and check the details (in Properties) in Windows.

I wanted to try the Flowmo v2.02 hack to test a higher bitrate. And something stable. The installation seems to be OK. I'm using now a 95MB/s SD card Extreme Pro. Well, the bitrate is now really low (38Mbits max).

I'm recording in 24H mode.

Someone could explain me if I'm checking the bitrate in the good way? Have we an other way to check if the hack is working? Why have I all these fluctuations in my recordings?

Why is this?

Its just annoying because I thought it was my card (Transcend class 10 45mb/s write) and I bought a Sandisk Extreme Pro 16 gb 95 mb/s but this didn't solve the problem because obviously it was something I was doing with the patch. I hardly touched anything in the patch as I say just increased the max bitrate for all AVCHD...

Any advice would be great just to get my head round all this and get more control and reliability in understanding the patching process. I don't get the error now with either the Transcend or Sandisk...

1.LOW-LIGHT: Recently while filming, I had immense problems with lowlight. I know that the 3.5-5.6 lense doesn't get much light in it, so is this lense useless for lowlight/non-illuminated scenerys? Or are there some settings to improve it? I have put shutter speed now to 1/30, ISO 3200 (non-hacked maximum) , Lense to 3.5 (but sometimes it goes back to 5 or 5.5 and then I can't get it to a lower level, why??) , Aperture to lowest level, contrast-2, sharpness-2, saturation-1, noise reduction+2. But it's still far from perfect. Some Months before I had filmed a concert in AutoMode and it was horrible, I could see almost nothing in the video, lots of noise and flickering. Do you know how I could remove those things in Video-Editing or is it useless in trying to fix it.

2.SETTINGS: What are you're settings for a)Low-Light b)Easy&Action (when you have to film without time to manually focus and changing light) and c) Professional Filming (when you have time to adjust to light/ manual focus etc.) b) I don't know or understand right which of the focus options to use (MF/AFC/AFS , head/fence/select)

3.HACK Here are most my questions: a) Does/Could it ruin my Camera or make it's lifetime shorter? Do I loose my warrenty? b) I have the european version (PAL 25p/50p/50i). Is it identical to the US Version (NTSC 30p/60p/60i). Can I change it in the menu, for example for slow-motion shots where the 10extraUSfps could be useful ? c) The sensor output for FullHD is 50p/60p right? But the recording only 50i/60i. I there a hack to make full use of it? d) What are the advantages of the hack? e) Does the higher bitrate make higher quality videos? f) What's the optimum bitrate? g) Which hack should I use? h) Are there some hacks to get an 80s look i.e. Apocalypse Now/A-Team

4.Video Editing a) Do you decompress the files or something else before putting it into the video editor b) which video editor is the best to use (peformance/workflow/easy/lots of possibilites) ? c) Will I get problems when editing those high-bitrate Videos? How to solve them? d) How do you edit multicam projects? In the multicam mode in Premiere Pro (which is laggy on my computer) or manually?

Long time lurker, very seldom poster here.

I'm shooting a piece with my GH2 that will consist of a lot of concert footage. It's an electronica show, so I am expecting lots of crazy light show effects, and of course it will be very dark with super hot highlights. I'm trying to score a set of Zeiss 1.3s for the shoot (mounted via a HotRod PL). If I can't get the Zeiss 1.3s, I will be using NIKON AI/AIs primes that are either f/2.8 or f/2.

I love Sedna C for interviews when I have tons of SD cards, and I love Flowmotion when I do not have tons of SD cards (the productions provide the SD cards so, at the end of the day, I don't have to give mine up for several days while they copy, backup the media and ingest into their suite).

I'm wondering what patch could be of specifically good use here (very dark, flashing lights, highly saturated colours) especially when it comes to having relatively "clean" shadow areas (which will be the majority of the fame). I shoot with Nostalgia, with all settings to -2, and almost always leave the WB at 5200K.

Apart from these two beauty patches (Sedna C and Flow), what patch could be a good fit for this scenario?

I have hacked my gh2 and it used to record at 98000kbps but now with the same hack it will only do 15000kbps.

I can't seem to figure out why it is doing this.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I like using my camera with a B4 lens and exTele mode set to on. Now I want to use this with my HDMI viewfinder and I remember this used to be possible with the first firmware version. I couldn't find it anywhere in the new one, so I loaded the firmware v1.0 into Ptool 3.65d and checked the 'ExTele check disable' box in the patches for testers. Now, when I connect my GH2 to the HDMI monitor the ITC gets disabled, but when I hit record, it will go back to ETC mode. Unfortunately the camera locks up and the only way to solve this is to remove the battery.

My questions:

• What can I do to prevent the from locking up. I thought this patch was pretty reliable? I also tried it with Ptool 3.63d and no other patches but the Extele check disable patch, but still the same problem. I want to record in 1080i50 FSH mode.
• I remember it would stay in ETC mode also with live view, but can't remember how I did it. Any tips?

I have a GF3.

I loaded up ptool but don't see an option for a timelapse hack. Are timelapse settings available in any of the hacks ?

Anyway, I have a GH2. I also have FLow Motion V2.2 on a 32gb Class 10 Transcend SD card. I also have Kit Lens 14-140 & an M42 -> M43 adapted Helios 44-2 Lens.

I would like to know which settings (iso, etc etc) to use for wildlife photography and video work in my garden in the UK this December.

I have some time off from studies so wish to film a wildlife short based in my garden. If you can help I really appreciate your time!

I'm using a GH2 as a wide-shot B cam for a Christmas Parade next weekend. I will be doing a multi-cam edit in Premiere using the footage of the GH2 and the tripod panning shots of a Panasonic AG-HMC80 using the PH mode: Approx. 21 Mbps (VBR).

I noticed the stock 1080/60i preset in the GH2 only goes to 17Mbps. I know there's a ton of talk about progressive hacks, but is there a good hack that spans properly and gives me a higher quality and bit rate for 1080/60i footage?

The show is being produced for broadcast on a local cable channel.

I am very interested in making documentaries on people who do endurance based adventures out in the wilderness.

I wonder, as I wish to make cinematic looking documentaries, what are some good lenses I should be looking for - for use with the GH2?

Also, is the Flowmotion V2.2 hack a good one to use with my subject in mind?

I want to shoot fast action (think rock climbing, kayaking, running, mountaineering) in varying weather conditions.

I'm a huge fan of the 720p 60fps modes that this camera has after the hacks, and for some reason recently I'm noticing that in this mode, I am not producing 60 frames per second. I usually shoot in 2 modes, 24p cinema mode for 24fps at 1080. And then in Manual Mode 720p avchd which should give me 60fps.

I've seemed to have pin pointed the cause and it seems to be related to shutter speed. When I should below 1/60th of a second on the shutter, I get less than 60fps, it's almost as if it's shooting 30 frames per second.

This is really frustrating cause I don't believe it ever did that before. Why would changing your shutter angle change the frames per second.

Any help to fix this would be helpful.

new happy owner of GH2 here. First of all, thanks for all of this, I bought the camera, and one of the main reason was I can hack it (I was thinking to buy Olympus OMD5). Anyway, I like to do some Time Lapses, so I found TimeBuster setting, currently using "24h Timebuster FlowMotion 2.02".

I tried to process the output, I load timelapse into Final Cut Pro, but it looks like file is broken - I understand why it looks like that.

Also, I am aware of the program GH13 Timelapser, which should do the job on Windows. There might be also possibility to process the output using Avisynth and some scripting.

But what about some OSX program ? Or I have to install VMWare/Parallers to process it ?

the new saved firmware is the exact same size as v11 (to the byte). Is that right? updated the cameras firmware and restarted camera but still says version 1.1. Does this change on successful hack?

Once the camera is hacked do the menus change?

EDIT -Upon reading through the GH2 manual again, I came across a key sentence that I must have missed before. While connecting the card/camera to a computer via this USB lead, the SD card will be set to READ ONLY permissions.

I recently flashed Drewnet v6 to my GH2. I realized recently that my burst mode is no longer working. I turn the dial for burst mode and my camera doesn't do anything. When I press the shutter button, there is no burst, it just takes a normal picture. Is my GH2's burst mode dial broken or am I missing something?

I want to remove my hack and reset the camera to original state. I tried to install the 1.1 firmware update and change the name. But the camera doesn't want update :( Help please!

I just recently bought a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro Card (With 95mb/s) and I applied the Flow Motion v2 hack and tried the Driftwood Apocalypse hack and 720p at 60fps doesn't work. It cancels the recording and says the write speed of my card isn't fast enough. I don't understand why it won't work. The card is the top SD card for the GH2.
