How This Filmmaker Turned Stock Animations into a Sundance-Worthy Short

One of the amazing things about going to film festivals is seeing unique works of art from edgy creators, works you might not come across as a casual viewer. That's certainly the case for Paradise Man (ii), a quirky short film that's playing in the animated shorts block at this year's Sundance Film Fest.The short is a reflective piece featuring the eponymous Man, who appears on screen and immediately starts waxing poetic about life and golf and love. It's funny, kooky, and startlingly emotional. The writer/director/producer of the short is Jordan Michael Blake, who was kind enough to chat with us ahead of the festival. How do you balance writing from an emotional place while letting things get weird? Jordan Michael Blake: I think the structure or aesthetic of something should reflect the way your brain thinks about that thing, and from the beginning, this movie was about thoughts and feelings.
