Find Your Authentic Self Through Comedy and Animation With 'Unicorn Boy'

If there's one thing I've always found are peas in a pod, it's artistic authenticity and absurdist comedy. The medium to absurdity can always change, but something that Matty Kiel found a particularly niche voice with in their debut feature Unicorn Boy is through a colorfully unique animation style. Unicorn Boy is a semi-autobiographical fantasy tale of Matty's heartbroken induced self discovery. Made over the course of eight years and originally premiering at 2023's Slamdance, Unicorn Boy is an incredibly sleekly- animated gem that extols the artistic process both on and off the screen, elevated even further with a deep benched comedic cast of friend's in Matty's community, as some big comedy names like Patton Oswalt and Maria Bamford. We had the chance to catch up with Matty at LA's comedy screening Show&Tell just in time for the theatrical premiere Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Laemle NoHo. Check out our interview below, please!
