Had the opportunity recently to work producing a short film with the new startup nonprofit; The WeInspire Society. It is always so rewarding to put your heart and time into something you believe can inspire and change others for the better. I love this simple message of 'giving time' because I think our families and friends can all relate to technology taking over at times. As a result of working on this project I have been personally challenged when in a group, to put down the tablet and live more fully present to invest and engage in the people in front of me with my time. BMCC on a budget, what is needed?

A lot of people talk about how much the BMCC will cost, so I wanted to give a little run down on budget options. What is NEEDED?

2 SSDs (switch one out when it's full) - 109$ each for 120g models via newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211588

1 Battery (any reason why you can use the tekkeon batteries? - 120$ from BH.

Thats it.

Want to have a more professional rig? Well if you don't already own one, you can buy cheap one off of PV deals for 100$, and then buy the 50$ adapter from CPM tools for the Tekkeon batteries.

Boom, Cheap BMCC bundle for 3340usd, minimum. Or if you're ambitious, another 150$. oh, and you should probably already have a tripod. if not, WHY?

Mind you, this is the bare MINIMUM one would need to shoot.

Low / No Budget Set Design : High Production Values for Low $

To me, the biggest thing that really calls attention to a low / no budget short is bad sets, backgrounds, lighting, etc... You can fix lighting up to a point with little money, but set design is one of the biggest things that's never talked about that can have a huge impact on your look of your film or short.

And it can be one of the most costly. Part of the reason a lot of these shorts have bad sets is because they have no money to try and make things look better and/or no crew to try and make it look good. So they shoot where they can shoot free and in locations they can't change or don't have time to change.

So I'd like to start this topic to brainstorm ideas and find links online of set designing and trying to get more "production value" in your films with little to no money. I found this link: http://smashortrashindiefilmmaking.com/?page_id=1104

This is both a good example of low budget set design AND special effects since this is a forced perspective shot. Anybody else have links or tips on this topic?
