I can't remember which one I installed, but if there's a know stable one for long video recording, I'd like to try it. I don't need any other advanced features than stable long video recording with live out.

Step-up USB adapters for Panasonic, Canon, Sony & others http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18896/step-up-usb-adapters-for-panasonic-canon-sony-others Tue, 30 Jan 2018 23:19:58 +0000 DrDave 18896@/talks/discussions These have been around for awhile, but the price has come way down. Basically, it's a USB DC-DC converter that lifts the standard USB 5 volts to, for example, 8.4 volts for Panasonic.

I purchased this one.

There's another model that has two USB inputs, so you could use two power banks or use one and draw more amps.

I was skeptical, and the packaging made me even more so, cardboard & crinkly shrinkly, but I plugged it into my cheapest 5200mah power bank and measured the voltage. 8.8 volts, which is just about right (I've gone as high as 9.2, but prefer not to). Notably, the needle on my trusty voltmeter did not wiggle. Also noteworthy, it didn't seem to need the recommended 3 amp draw. It comes with a 3 amp wall wart if you just want to plug the camera into the mains for power.

It comes with a bog standard dummy battery. The step up converter is tiny, not much thicker than the cable. Plugged in the camera (Panasonic G7) and waited. The 5200mah power bank ran the camera for 156 minutes, or two and one half hours. Not bad--you are going to lose some power in the conversion so don't skimp on the power bank. I'll do some tests later with my RAV 20,000mah bank.

Camera ran cooler than expected.

So there you have it, easy, lightweight power from USB. I had been using 9 volt packs with stacks of Panasonic 18650 cells (runs forever....). But this is really easy.

You can buy adapters for most cameras, and considering the fact that it comes with a dummy battery, the price is cheap. Will it burn out? Interesting question.

Optimal Mac Settings for Film Edit - Performanc and Exporting http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15798/optimal-mac-settings-for-film-edit-performanc-and-exporting Mon, 26 Sep 2016 13:11:15 +0000 matt_gh2 15798@/talks/discussions Hey guys,

Thought I'd get your advice and opinions on setting up a new mac for feature film editing. I've been on a Windows machine for some time now, and went through the process of determining the best settings for performance, and the best settings for export. My goal is optimal quality, particularly with export quality. So do you guys have preferred settings you use on your macs for the best editing and exporting results? Will be using FCP 7, FCP X, After Effects, Audition. Also any thoughts on antivirus - needed or not, conflicts with FCP or not?

Thanks, Matt

GH2 hacked - hangs and have to remove battery http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3265/gh2-hacked-hangs-and-have-to-remove-battery Sat, 19 May 2012 04:22:34 +0000 fatpig 3265@/talks/discussions Hi guys,

A friend of mine and myself are having the same problem. I am using driftwood Mysteron and he is using Cake v 2.1 - and we both get the GH2 hanging up during recording (frame freezes, no buttons react, doesnt shut off, have to remove battery, file is 0 kilobytes). I noticed that Canis Majoris Day was even worse and hung up even more often. Is that problem known?

I have an extrememory sd card 32gb, which never gave me any problems with driftwood up until last month.. he is using some cheap card, but then again, its only cake he's using.

Any help on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

Stable setting (B-frame in 720p, max quality and max bitrate up to 34Mbit, typical Class-10) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2972/stable-setting-b-frame-in-720p-max-quality-and-max-bitrate-up-to-34mbit-typical-class-10 Sun, 22 Apr 2012 06:30:04 +0000 JohnyDoe 2972@/talks/discussions Can anyone suggest any of the experienced testers for request below? Settings not for postproduction. Only for recording and storage. Max quality for general scenes.

I only have typical cards, class-10 (Transcend, real speed - 16Mbyte to write and 16Mbyte to read). I almost do not do postproductions, but only store the original recorded video, as it is. Can you recommend the best settings to PTools? :

  1. 720p/50fps c B-Frames with bitrate up to 34Mpbs with the best quality.

  2. 1080p/24fps with the best possible quality with two options - 24Mbps (24L) and 34Mbps (24H)

  3. 1080p/25fps with the best possible quality with bitrate up to 34Mbps (HBR)

  4. 1080p/30fps = 1080p/24fps on the quality of each frame, but just with more frame rate and bit rate - up to 34Mpbs(HBR).

I tried switch to B-Frames in 720p, but always have error messages for bitrate limit exceeded (I set max bitrate to 34Mbps). Although the recording with bitrate up 36Mpbs with a 1080p/24 error does not happen.
