First High-Speed 45mm Fixed Focal Standard Lens in Full-Frame Format with VC, Offers Unique Perspective with Significantly Shorter Minimum Focusing Distance

Overview

  • A New Standard among all standard lenses.
  • Slight wide-angle delivers a new photographic perspective.
  • Responsive to your intuitive and inspirational motives.
  • Provides an equivalent focal length of 70mm on APS-C cameras.

Key Features

  1. Even when used wide open at F1.8 aperture, provides outstanding image quality with maximum aberration compensation, thanks to optimal use of sophisticated glass materials and highly advanced optical design. SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD (Model F013) is a 10-element, 8-group construction, utilizing two molded glass aspherical elements and one LD (Low Dispersion) element.
Two of the aspherical elements effectively correct the field curvature to ensure planarity of the image plane, while efficiently compensating for spherical and comatic aberrations to achieve superb uniformity across the field with high-fidelity point spread reproducibility. Outstanding resolution is rendered from corner to corner and the sagittal comatic flare (a type of aberration that a point image at corners induces a comet tail-like blur), which tends to become prominently noticeable in night scenes, is thoroughly corrected.
The LD glass element optimally compensates for chromatic aberrations, which tend to become particularly prominent in fast-aperture lenses in general, and delivers crystal clear images without any residual color fringe.
  2. World's first* full-frame 45mm focal length with fast F1.8 maximum aperture and integral VC (Vibration Compensation)
The aperture is optimized to F1.8 to create the most practical lens offering superior imaging performance, a shorter minimum focus distance and image stabilization mechanism. Countless simulations during the design phase ensured the high resolution expected of a full-frame, high-speed lens coupled with spectacular background blur.
It is also the world's first* full-frame, fixed focal length standard lens to be equipped with VC. Freedom in handheld shooting has been dramatically improved by reducing camera shake that tends to occur when using shooting in low light such as at dusk and in dark rooms. Also, the full potential of the high performance of the lens is realized by reducing minute vibrations that lower image quality conspicuous in high resolution cameras.
  3. MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.29m (11.4”), the best-in-class close focusing capability
MOD measures 0.29m (11.4”), yielding a magnification ratio of 1:3.4, the best-in-the-class close focusing capability among fast-aperture fixed focal lenses in full-frame format**. The freedom of shooting at a closer distance to the subject expands photographic possibilities. Tamron's proprietary Floating System, which places a group of elements at the optimal location as the focusing group travels relative to shooting distances, ensures the best imaging performance at any range. From the closest to a normal shooting distance range, excellent image quality is obtained.
  4. Optimal relative illumination means no dark corners
Some fast-aperture lenses “vignette” or have darkened corners due to uneven light distribution. However, even at the full open aperture, the overall illumination level across the entire field is well balanced and optimized. Because there is a sufficient amount of corner illumination, photographers can enjoy making full use of the wide open aperture.
  5. eBAND Coating deployed to thoroughly suppress ghosting and flare
eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings, both providing outstanding anti-reflection effect, are applied to critical element surfaces for maximum light transmission. Internal reflections from element surfaces which cause ghosting and flare are reduced to an absolute minimum. Flawless, crystal clear images can be obtained. eBAND Coating, a hybrid nano-structured layer with extremely low refractive index coupled with multi-layered anti-reflection coating technology, efficiently minimizes reflection of extremely angulated incident light—something that cannot be achieved by conventional anti-reflection coatings alone.
  6. High-speed AF with USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive)
Fast, quiet AF is achieved by employing a USD ring-type ultrasonic motor which enables remarkably precise focusing drive with high torque and responsiveness. Because the rotational torque of the USD is generated by waves of ultrasonic vibrations, inherent operating noise is extremely low and practically imperceptible. In addition, Full-time Manual Focus override is available at any point during the autofocus operation for deliberately shifting focus without switching the AF-MF mode back and forth.
  7. Fluorine coating on the front element repels water and fingerprints
Fluorine coating technology, developed for use in industrial optics applications, has been adapted to photographic lenses. The water and oil repellant coating applied to the front element surface allows instant removal of dirt or smudges with ease. The coating also provides a reasonable level of durability, and will sustain its effectiveness for years.
  8. Moisture-resistant construction for shooting outdoors under adverse weather conditions
Seals are located at the lens mount area and other critical locations to prevent infiltration of moisture and/or rain drops and provide moisture-resistant construction. This feature provides an additional layer of protection when shooting outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
  9. Circular aperture for enhanced bokeh
The 9-blade diaphragm retains a nearly circular opening even when stopped down by two stops. Marvelously tuned blur in the subject background can be obtained without generating undesirable shapes of aperture patterns.

16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Tamron lens http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9558/16-300mm-f3.5-6.3-tamron-lens Thu, 06 Feb 2014 05:18:14 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 9558@/talks/discussions

Superior, reliable image quality with a universal lens
The lens construction features 16 elements in 12 groups. This includes three Molded-Glass Aspherical elements, one Hybrid Aspherical element, two LD (Low Dispersion) elements, one XR (Extra Refractive index) glass element, and one element of UXR (Ultra-Extra Refractive Index) glass, which has greater refractive index than XR. The full use of specialized glass elements in the design contributes to thorough compensation of optical aberrations. In addition, the use of the latest coating technology for suppressing reflections on lens element surfaces minimizes unwanted flare and ghosting and assures sharp, crisp, high-contrast images.

A further expansion of the imaging range
With a minimum focal length of 16mm (35mm film equivalent: 24.8mm) at the wide-angle end of the zoom range, and a maximum focal length of 300mm (35mm film equivalent: 465mm), this remarkable new lens provides a zoom ratio of approximately 18.8X.

Responding to requests from consumers who wanted to be able to photograph subjects with a wider viewing angle than is possible with conventional high-power zoom lenses, Tamron has begun developing a unique lens with a minimum focal length of 16mm. At the telephoto end, the maximum focal length has been increased to an impressive 300mm. Users of this new lens can enjoy unprecedented framing flexibility by easily adjusting the angle of view using the convenient zoom ring.

Using a new design approach to create an ultra-compact lens

The latest optical technology has been used to provide an expanded zoom range (compared to the B008) at both the wide-angle and telephoto ends, without necessitating the use of an oversized lens body. By employing UXR glass (which helps to reduce the size of the front lens diameter), an optimized layout of the Molded-Glass Aspherical elements, and adopting a 5-lens-group zoom system approach to provide enhanced design flexibility, the new lens embodies the fusion of state-of-the-art optical design, sophisticated mechanical design, and high-precision lens manufacturing technology, thereby attaining a compact size, an unprecedented zoom range, and superior image quality.

A minimum focusing distance of just 0.39 meters supports an extensive range of macro photography capabilities
The new lens provides a minimum focus distance of 0.39 m over the entire zoom range, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9. This makes it possible to get right up close to the subject of the photo to enjoy easy, stress-free macro photography.

PZD (Piezo Drive) delivers faster, quieter autofocus action
The PZD (Piezo Drive), an advanced standing-wave ultrasonic motor system, delivers faster, quieter, more precise AF action when the autofocus is engaged. There is enhanced support for contrast-detection AF capabilities, and focusing when in live-view mode has been made smoother. The new lens also features full-time manual focus, a function that was not provided by B008, making manual focusing more convenient.

Sharper images with VC (Vibration Compensation)
Tamron’s acclaimed VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism is incorporated into the new lens. VC reduces image blur caused by camera shake to deliver significantly sharper images even when shooting handheld at long telephoto settings.

Moisture-resistant construction for worry-free outdoor shooting

From Tamron: September 1, 2016, Saitama, Japan – Tamron Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Shiro Ajisaka), announces the launch of the SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (Model A022). This second generation “G2” lens builds upon the success of the SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD, which launched in December 2013 and continues to successfully meet photographers’ needs in the ultra-telephotography category.

The new G2 version was developed to provide superior optical performance with today’s high resolution DSLRs and to add improvements to several features including speed and accuracy of AF and VC (Vibration Compensation). Also, several new features have been added: FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism, Fluorine Coating and optional tele converters. The new lens delivers outstanding performance and a luxurious, upscale appearance, including a metal lens barrel.

Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Highlights:

Optical design refreshed to achieve even higher performance

Three LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements completely eliminate axial and transverse chromatic aberrations. The design also features upgraded optical construction (21 elements in 13 groups) and leverages improvements in manufacturing technology. As a result, the lens delivers high resolution, improved sharpness and overall better performance.

Tamron’s sophisticated eBAND Coating for eliminating ghosting and flare

eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating is a nano-structured layer deployed on the lens element surface. In addition to regular anti-reflection coatings, eBAND Coating offers higher light transmission and significant improvement in anti-reflection characteristics, especially against angulated incident rays. Combined with of BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings, flare and ghosting are reduced to imperceptible levels.

MOD reduced to provide optimum tele-macro photography

Tamron’s advanced manufacturing technology has made it possible to reduce the MOD (Minimum Object Distance) to 2.2m (86.6 in), compared to 2.7m for Model A011, and has allowed for the wonders of tele-macro photography.

AF speed is faster and much more responsive with moving subjects

The Model A022 is equipped with a USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor that delivers excellent responsiveness and control. AF speed is significantly improved from current model, and it enables accurate high-speed focus even when capturing moving subjects.

When shooting with AF, the Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to instantly make fine focusing adjustments manually, without having to switch between modes.

VC performance is now 4.5 stops and offers three modes optimized for different situations

The VC (Vibration Compensation) effectiveness is equivalent to 4.5 stops, based on image stabilization performance levels established by CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association) when using in VC MODE 3. Model A022 now has three types of VC modes, and it is possible to choose the optimum VC mode according to the situation for taking a photograph, such as when wishing to pan the camera.

VC MODE 1 is the standard mode that strikes a great balance between the stability of the viewfinder image and the stabilization effects.
VC MODE 2 is exclusively used for panning.
VC MODE 3 prioritises the stabilization of the captured images and forgoes the stabilization of the viewfinder image.

With the optional accessory TAMRON TAP-in ConsoleTM, you can custom the configuration of VC MODE 1. Choose the viewfinder view of either standard or viewfinder image priority.

New FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism enables the locking of the zoom ring at any position

FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism quickly locks or unlocks the zoom at any position simply by sliding the zoom ring. Photographers can shoot from any angle without the zoom extending unintentionally. Additionally, the conventional Zoom Lock switch prevents unwanted barrel extension during transportation.

Fluorine Coating and the Moisture-Resistant Construction for a more user-friendly lens

The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellant. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints. For greater protection when shooting outdoors, leak-proof seals throughout the lens barrel help protect your equipment.

Electromagnetic diaphragm system now used also for Nikon-mount lenses

An electromagnetic diaphragm system, which has been a standard feature for Canon-mount lenses, is now employed in Nikon-mount lenses*2. More precise diaphragm and aperture control is possible because the diaphragm blades are driven and controlled by a motor through electronic pulse signals.

The lightweight and easy-to-hold tripod mount that is compatible with an Arca-Swiss style quick release plate

A new textured grip and Arca-Swiss style tripod interface enhances both speed and utility. And because the tripod mount is made of lightweight magnesium, it is much easier to carry.

Compatible with TAMRON TAP-in ConsoleTM, an optional accessory product

The optional TAP-in Console provides a USB connection to your personal computer, enabling you to easily update your lens’s firmware as well as customize features including fine adjustments to the AF and VC.

New tele converters developed exclusively for the Tamron lens

Two exclusive tele converters, which perfectly match the optics of the new SP 150-600mm G2 (Model A022), offer 1.4x and 2.0x magnification, and provide a maximum zoom range up to 1200mm on a full-frame camera, and up to 1860mm on an APS-C camera. These new tele converters extend focal length of the master lens, making it possible to take pictures in farther ultra-telephoto ranges.

Based on the rigorous quality standards worthy of the SP series, this new lens is manufactured with thorough attention to details

For the SP series products in particular, Tamron has established rigorous design and quality standards. These standards apply to the optical design, mechanical design and the cosmetic appearance, as well as to such wide-ranging areas as the product’s robustness and improvements in various individual functions. Tamron thoroughly reviews of all of the design and manufacturing processes in order to offer products to customers with ever-higher precision and quality levels.

For the SP 150-600mm G2 (Model A022), the optical design was refreshed, mechanical parts were improved and a new exterior design was adopted. To maximize the optical performance intrinsic to this product, Tamron improved the accuracy of component parts and increasing the precision of the overall zooming mechanism.

Design Concept

The new design adopted for the four SP series lenses already on the market is essentially the fusion of engineering and style, the pursuit of functional beauty and craftsmanship achieved by giving meticulous attention to minute details. Using metal as the exterior material creates a high-grade design based on the concept that emphasizes “Human Touch” characteristics, and significantly improves user-friendliness. The SP models feature a novel design for the switches, easy-to-read characters, an enlarged window over the distance scale and the adoption of organic forms easy for the photographer’s fingers to hold onto.

This design philosophy—the pursuit of functional beauty with a “Human Touch”—is applied even to the most minute details of the new SP 150-600mm G2 ultra-telephoto zoom. By using metal for the exterior material and adding new functions such as the FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism, the Model A022 achieves a size and weight that makes comfortable handheld shooting possible, with a slim and stylish appearance design to top it all off.

FS: Sound Devices 702 and Tamron 70-200 F2.8 DI VC USD N-F http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14605/fs-sound-devices-702-and-tamron-70-200-f2.8-di-vc-usd-n-f Fri, 19 Feb 2016 01:24:11 +0000 InnerSpark 14605@/talks/discussions The SD702 is in very good condition. Signs of use, but no wear, and absolutely no damage, the unit is clean. Looking to upgrade to a 702T, so this one must go. Legendary audio quality.

$1,400 OBO.

The Tamron is in Mint Condition. I'm just not a zoom person, and honestly I prefer to shoot wide, this was more of an event/coverage lens and I just don't do that kind of work anymore. Practically new condition.

$950 OBO.

Both items are in LA, but will ship worldwide.

PM me if you have any questions or are interested!

Which CCTV lens for wide angle fisheye use ? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7609/which-cctv-lens-for-wide-angle-fisheye-use- Fri, 26 Jul 2013 05:31:26 +0000 TruHype 7609@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

I've recently started to get interested in C mount (CCTV) lens, for they are fast, wide, and cheap. So I wondered, is there any CCTV lens that I could use as a Fisheye (and get the same effect as the Panasonic 8mm f3.5, but faster) ? Here's a few lens I've found looking on the internet :

  • Rainbow 3.5mm 1.6

  • Tamron 4-12mm 1.2

  • Pentax 6mm 1.2 (+ wide conversion lens x0.45)

Wanted effect :

The GH2 exact m4/3 sensor crop is x1.86.

So I would like to get the same widness as the Panasonic 8mm or any 8mm Fisheye (Samyang, Peleng, Rokinon...) :

Panasonic 8mm : 8 x 1.86 = 14.88mm equivalent (no need for ETC mode)

Rainbow 3.5mm : 3.5 x 1.86 = 6.51 -> 6.51 x 2 = 13mm equivalent

Pentax 6mm : 6 x 1.86 = 11.16 -> 11.6 x 2 = 23.2mm equivalent -> 23.2 x 0.45 = 10.44mm equivalent

x 1.86 : GH2 Sensor Crop

x 2 : ETC tele conversion mode crop (to cover vignetting)

x 0.45 : Wide convversion lens

Does that mean we could use any CCTV c mount lens instead of the Panasonic lens to get the wide fisheye effect ?

A few videos :

Lenses :

C mount lens (1/2") work well on the GH2, but I heard that the CS mount lens (1/3") would still have really heavy vignetting because even with the ETC mode it would not cover entirely the GH2 sensor. Is that true ?

Interesting CS mount lens, but 1/3 inch : http://www.ebay.fr/itm/TAMRON-Manual-Iris-CCTV-Lens-3-0-8mm-1-1-0-ASPHERICAL-C-Mount-3-Mega-Pixel-/261248954560?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item3cd3a6b0c0

I would use the fisheye to film Skateboarding.

Thank you.

Low price zoom with medium-long focus throw? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13178/low-price-zoom-with-medium-long-focus-throw Mon, 15 Jun 2015 14:47:38 +0000 joethepro 13178@/talks/discussions Looking for a normal zoom like the Tamron 17-50, Tokina 28-70, or something along those lines that has a focus throw longer than ~45 degrees. Pisses me off that so many low priced zooms now have such ridiculously short focus throws. Are there any that I should look into?

28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Tamron lens http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9557/28-300mm-f3.5-6.3-tamron-lens Thu, 06 Feb 2014 05:15:10 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 9557@/talks/discussions

State-of-the-art optical design technology delivers superior image quality
The advanced optical construction of this lens includes four elements of LD (Low Dispersion) glass, three Molded-Glass Aspherical elements, one Hybrid Aspherical element, one XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass element, and one element of UXR (Ultra-Extra Refractive Index) glass, which has greater refractive index than XR. The full use of specialized glass elements in its design contributes to making this outstanding lens as compact and lightweight as possible, while minimizing aberrations, resulting in superior image quality. Particularly impressive is the thorough compensation of chromatic aberrations at the telephoto end, yielding images of enhanced clarity and crispness.

image

Focus on portability - The lens is now even smaller and lighter
In addition to state-of-the-art optical design that facilitates downsizing of the lens body, the mechanical design, which incorporates a highly sophisticated multi-stack-cam layout that takes up far less space, and PZD (Piezo Drive), an autofocus drive system with a simpler, more compact structure, has made it possible to reduce the overall dimensions of this lens compared to the existing Tamron 28-300mm (Model A20). These technologies are the fruit of Tamron’s more than 20 years of research and development in the high-power zoom lens field.

Advanced anti-reflection coating
The application of BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings for suppressing reflections on lens element surfaces minimizes unwanted flare and ghosting to deliver sharp, crisp, high-contrast images.

PZD (Piezo Drive) delivers faster, quieter autofocus action
The PZD (Piezo Drive), a standing-wave ultrasonic motor system, delivers faster, quieter, more precise action when the autofocus is engaged. The full-time manual focus system is easy and intuitive, enabling quick and convenient manual focus at any time.

VC (Vibration Compensation) Tamron’s acclaimed VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism reduces image blur caused by camera shake to deliver significantly sharper images even when shooting handheld.

Circular diaphragm facilitates achieving spectacular blur effects Using a circular diaphragm, this lens achieves spectacular background blur effects that enable creative use of depth of field.

Moisture-resistant construction for outdoor shooting
Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens.

Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP Di VC USD http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7306/tamron-70-200mm-f2.8-sp-di-vc-usd Thu, 20 Jun 2013 17:47:34 +0000 RRRR 7306@/talks/discussions Never been a fan of Tamron glass but this tele zoom ticks the boxes when it comes to video work. Parfocal, internal mechanisms, fast and well built. Optically it´s nice too, very competitive in this range of zooms. Very nice to chase stuff around with from afar, especially on a crop sensor (m43). Had a very quick test of it (mainly to see if it was parfocal), and although it´s not exactly cheap I will definately get one when the time is right. Didn´t try out the stabilisation but it seems good.

For Sale: Tamron SP 17mm f3.5 Ultra wide angle lens, OM mount. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4739/for-sale-tamron-sp-17mm-f3.5-ultra-wide-angle-lens-om-mount. Thu, 27 Sep 2012 15:55:28 +0000 rrsduncan 4739@/talks/discussions As sad as it is to say, I'm selling my lovely Tamron SP 17mm f3.5 lens.

It's an adaptall 2 lens so fits any camera you would care to think about and Tamron made an adaptor for but I'm selling it with and Olympus OM mount.

It's a brilliant ultrawide angle lens that is a solid chunk of metal. Tack sharp and difficult to get hold of these days. No hood but comes with caps all for £180.

In excellent condition with no scratches or fungus.

Importantly with for the GH2 it has quite remarkably low distortion for being 17mm so it works as a really nice 35mm lens.

Pics to follow.

Thanks for looking.

Cine-mini : Winery Taster | Orion v4b http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2593/cine-mini-winery-taster-orion-v4b Fri, 16 Mar 2012 00:00:10 +0000 pchristoph 2593@/talks/discussions
A 'taste' of an upcoming short I'm making for a fruit winery. It'll be a tastey documentary short indeed. I should probably have shot this clip at 60p, but time was short after the interview and I forgot, so it's 24p and not as smooth as I'd like it to be. Edit/cc in fcpx. The winemaker asked me "when the film will hit the theaters"... he's pretty happy with the quality. This was shot using Vitaliy's latest ptool firmware and Driftwoods Orion v4b with a Tamron 17-50mm on a Kessler pocket dolly. Lowel pro light rig. Music composed to give a feeling like your in a great and ancient hall. Probably a bit over the top but I like it. Final short will be in a couple months from now. Cheers all. Thanks to Vitaliy and Driftwood - continuously.

Amelie short - Competition finalist - shot on 600D http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2167/amelie-short-competition-finalist-shot-on-600d Wed, 01 Feb 2012 16:43:18 +0000 Cheekorobbins 2167@/talks/discussions My New Years resolution was to find a competition to enter and get something filmed, I decided on the Jameson Empire - Done in 60 Seconds competition and have been selected as a finalist!

Wanted to share the video and, if you like it, please vote for me on the link below.

Filmed on my Canon 600D(1920x1080 @ 24fps) over two days. I only decided to enter the competition at the start of January and the deadline was the 20th so I didn't have as much time as I would've liked, fitting it around my day job(animator/3D generalist). Decided to spend 2 weeks planning and refining the idea and a week to put together an animatic and then assemble everything from there.

Location is in my flat, actress is my wife(who is an actress, handy!), I've still got a lot to learn about lighting so I'm not entirely happy with the look. Lamp lighting for the sofa and laptop close up shots and we have no plug sockets downstairs so just had to suffer the ceiling halogens :(

Used a bare bulb for the close up shots of the hands which I'm happier with(the typing one worked best I felt)

I used the Tamron 17-50 2.8 for all of it, I'm kicking myself for not using the 50mm 1.8(what was I thinking!?) mainly on a tripod and a shoulder rig for the final shot outside the door.

Edited in Premiere and graded in After Effects using Colorista II, once again I was short on time but was able to get a general warm hue on the live action shots and a green hue on the computer screens in fitting with the Amelie movie and the colour palettes used for her appartment and the outside world. Ended up being so tight on the deadline I didn't get to do a noise reduction and sharpening pass unfortunately.

I was going to just do the computer shots in after effects and apply a filter to get the screen look but after some tests it actually worked best just filming the monitor so I stuck with that, most of it is just me manipulating layers in photoshop in realtime(in the splitscreen email shot the cursor that appears is the move one if you look closely, couldn't find a workaround for that :) )

If there are any lighting/gaffers on here living in the London area that are looking for projects to get involved in I'd love to hear from you, it's definitely a weakness.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it. If you voted, thanks very much!

Comments and feedback welcome.
