What It Does: The Pare Lorentz Documentary Fund provides grants of $95,000 for the production of original, independent, and feature-length documentary films. These must be concerned with social and political issues in the United States and "focus on one of Pare Lorentz’s central concerns—the appropriate use of the natural environment, justice for all or the illumination of pressing social problems."

MacArthur Foundation Documentary Open Call

What It Does: Provides significant funding for both U.S. and international documentary filmmakers, covering production and post-production activities. Applications must be through an organization or company and priority is given to experienced filmmakers. According to their Website, they "seek to fund documentary projects that address the significant social challenges of our time or explore important but under-reported topics in a journalistic manner."

What It Does: This Canadian grant is for assisting documentary filmmakers working in any language but born and living in Asia, Latin American, or Africa. Applications must be in English, Spanish, or French.

The mission of Beneath the Waves, Inc. and the Beneath the Waves Film Festival is to raise public awareness with regards to ocean conservation and marine science through the use of visual and digital media such as videos. We also seek to promote science communication and scientific literacy by encouraging and inspiring scientists, ocean enthusiasts, and members of the general public to produce, promote and communicate research and conservation through open-access, engaging short films.

Submissions
Entrants must submit a collection containing three images (digital photographs) and title.
The three images (digital photographs) can be on any subject or series and should represent the thoughts, explorations and ideas of the entrant.
Each participant may submit a maximum of four separate entries.
The Competition is open to all photographers, artists, designers or any other creative field that creates with digital photography.
All international entries are welcomed and encouraged.
All submissions are digital

Judging
Finalists:
A group of finalists will be selected by public viewing called "EyeTime" which captures and records the amount and type of viewing time an image receives. For every second an image or a collection is viewed by others the entrant will accumulate various types of Competition "EyeTme." In addition, the competition organizers will select a minimum of four additional finalists

Schedule
October 15th 2013:
Collections may be submitted anytime up to October 15th

November 5th 2013:
Finalists announced and Stage 02 "EyeTime" begins

December 1st 2013:
Winners and Honorable Mentions announced

Beware that awards are not money so if you win you'll be a recognaized poor photographer, je je je and, as states in Judging section, the competition has this showoff "philosophy" so in trend these days
