It has been a while since my last post. We just released our latest indie sci-fi short THREE PILLS shot on the new Canon C500MK2 and I would be thrilled to hear your opinion.

Some time back, we had this idea on doing a short showing what our overpopulated and aging world could look like in 2050. Back then, we had no idea how realistic it would become in such a short time.

Genre: Sci-fi I Thriller Duration: 2 Min. 33 Sec.

Thanks so much for your time!

Arts and Culture Festivals do work! Driftwood ROAD http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14022/arts-and-culture-festivals-do-work-driftwood-road Tue, 03 Nov 2015 06:18:44 +0000 driftwood 14022@/talks/discussions

I have been extremely busy recently touring my ROAD film (www.driftwoodroad.co.uk) made with a Lumix GH4 around the UK arts and culture festivals.

Recently we entered into the Frequency Festival of Culture in Lincoln, UK and received some tremendous reviews.

We borrowed a DZ13K 17:10 projector & the amazing D75LE6 lens to create a > 200" screen and built a cinema around it, finishing off the auditorium with a car chair ripped out of an old Austin, placed directly in front of the screen (to represent the windscreen vision that the Panasonic GH4 was placed behind).

We received hundreds of really encouraging comments regarding the film which traverses 5 states of the American South West (California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado) to show a half hour cut from 32 hours of constant road footage. We constructed it as a series of Movements, working closely with musical composer Kevin Matthews: Palm Springs; Wipers; Monument Valley; Night Trucks; The Chase; Utah; Vegas; Death Valley and Big Sur.
We wanted to recreate that perfect feeling of freedom that you feel on a road trip, almost meditative - alone but in perfect harmony with the world around you.

It also gave me the chance to experiment with my new 'Chromarithm' algorithm - mapping music midi controller values from YUV picture values and motion vectors. More about this soon as I get further down the line with version 2.

All in all, I was gobsmacked by how well it was received by both festival attendees and the press alike. Indeed it was a wholly encouraging experience as I never assumed arts & culture festivals would generate great feedback, ask lots of questions, and were as interested in the technical as well as the creative.

Hopefully the film will be shown at other up and coming festivals around Europe soon - hope to see you there!

Lenses: Sigma 18-35mm 1.8, Sony 18-105mm f4, Tokina 11-16mm 2.8

Picture style: Neutral 0,0,0 + DRO Level 5

50p conformed to 25p

The camera performs pretty well.

I like the AEL lock feature which I used during the whole day with the camera set to aperture priority and auto ISO.

Peaking and especially focus punch-in works great!

But - I hate the record button placement and I miss the fully articulated screen on my Pannys.

Finally decided to put my hacked GH2 to work and pursue my dream of creating a TV show! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9264/finally-decided-to-put-my-hacked-gh2-to-work-and-pursue-my-dream-of-creating-a-tv-show Sun, 05 Jan 2014 16:30:45 +0000 stampfli 9264@/talks/discussions Here's our shameless plug for the TV show we are trying to fund raise. The show is about Stevie, a normal guy in his late 20’s, who lives in a mental institution and tells the stories leading up to how he supposedly went crazy. It's a mix of styles in the vein of "Seinfeld," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," and "How I Met Your Mother."

We shot the fundraiser video on the Panasonic GH2 using Driftwood Cluster X - Moon T7 settings. Would love to hear feedback from you guys and if you can "like" our facebook page even better!

"Young Man"- A new short shot on the GH2 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7982/young-man-a-new-short-shot-on-the-gh2 Mon, 02 Sep 2013 08:44:51 +0000 Philldaagony 7982@/talks/discussions It's been far too long since I've shared something here on Personal View (I think "The Date" was the last video I posted.). Anyway, here is "Young Man" a narrative music video/short film we shot at the beginning of August.

Password: 10111987

Details:

We shot this using two GH2s and varied between the Voigt 25mm, a Nikkor 50mm f1.4, and the stock panny 14-42mm kit lens (wide interiors). The patches we used were older versions of the Nebula pactch (GOP6 I believe Cluster X series 1) and the series one version of Moon (maybe even T5), not quite sure.

Anyway, thought I'd share and just like to say thank you to this wonderful community, even if I've only been lurking lately (corporate life has a way of doing that, but that should be changing soon).

La Salle de Classe - GH2 + Dolly Test (Driftwood) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5056/la-salle-de-classe-gh2-dolly-test-driftwood Wed, 31 Oct 2012 15:19:48 +0000 brettplank 5056@/talks/discussions

I managed to use my school's dolly to pull off some test shots for smooth camera movements. Take note that I used and controlled everything singularly: I pulled focus, performed pans, and physically pushed the dolly itself. It was difficult, but I managed to get some usable footage. With one or two extra grips I can easily pull off great looking, smooth shots. I'll be shooting more with the dolly this week. I like grain.

  • GH2 w/ Driftwood Hack
  • Canon FD 50mm f/1.4
  • Sigma 30mm f/1.4
  • 16mm grain overlay

Silent Short Film - Assumptions Killed Her Love http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4729/silent-short-film-assumptions-killed-her-love Thu, 27 Sep 2012 06:06:22 +0000 jasonkkchan 4729@/talks/discussions This is my latest short film - silent genre - shot on an unhacked GH2. Though I love the hack - sometimes I hack it back for efficiency of workflow. Played the music on my MIDI keyboard and recorded directly into Garage Band - which worked flawlessly - a great simple scoring software. I didn't know there was a scoring project function in Garage Band - similar to how Soundtrack Pro used to work - with the movie playing whilst you score or record live. Lenses used - 14mm pancake, 40mm Konica 1.8, Pentax 25mm c-mount 1.4.

Anyway, it's a fun little short - please check it out and let me know what you think.
