When I manually focus, whether through the LCD or LVF just before the image is in focus to my eye it looks soft and dreamy more so than out of focus, and beyond the subject it will start to actually look out of focus.

I took some when it actually looked IN FOCUS and I feel like it just doesn't look as sharp as my old Canon 60D (By quite a bit to be honest)

I'll post a picture so you can see. I shot this in manual, f/2.8 at 70mm on a tripod with around 160 shutter speed and 200ISO. I'll post a before and after grade.

After: http://imgur.com/JjxF8ZD

Do you think this is an operator, lens, or camera problem?

Also please do critique my grade, I'm relatively new to all this.

Why people on a budget are not using the GH2? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14968/why-people-on-a-budget-are-not-using-the-gh2 Sat, 16 Apr 2016 17:49:43 +0000 JuandiAznar 14968@/talks/discussions Hi everybody. First of all I would like to thanks Kiselev for his amazing work and Driftwood, who developed the patch I use. I start this topic as a conversation table, maybe kinda philosophic. I was using a Canon 600D but dirty look and incredible banding frustated me everytime (even being more a content guy that technic super sharpness/film look guy) The thing is, I grabbed a mint Pana GH2 with kit lens with less than 4.000 actions for 200 euros. This camera amazes me. Yeah, yeah, I know, 8 bit 4:2:0, but to me is a STEAL for 200 euros. It just have a very nice VIBE, a great noise pattern that doesn't bother me that much, a dynamic range that it's just ok and the amount of sharpness necessary (even with kit lens). To me, the camera is a tool, I paymore attention to my histories, so, if a camera just do his work for a little money, it's very ok. The thing is that this camera is a gem, don't know why filmmakers on a budget like me doesn't get this stuff for that little money instead of Canon Txi, I think it would be like my case, mainstream opinions makes you buy the Canon (it's true that they got their advantages like sensor, colour gammut...) GH2 it's just awesome.

Simply I wanted to thank the people who developed the hack and the patches and say to the world how much I like this camera, it's unique, go grab one and feel his vibe.

Greetings.

Mir-1 M39 Bussel Edition very blurry wide open http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11020/mir-1-m39-bussel-edition-very-blurry-wide-open Mon, 11 Aug 2014 05:39:13 +0000 hilburger 11020@/talks/discussions Hi everybody!

I have got a Mir-1 M39 Brussel Edition on my BMPCC using a (Zenit)M39-ring -> M42 -> MFT adapter.

The Mir-1 is blurry like hell using it wide open (see image, sorry for the ugly shot, it's just for deomnstration)

As soon as I close the aperture a huge bit it becomes sharper and usuable.

The later M42 Mir-1B I have got looks great, no blurred areas at all.

Do you think the lens has got some problems or are ALL silver M39s Mirs so bad?

Thank you & best regards, Thomas

Sharpness and aperture http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1467/sharpness-and-aperture Wed, 16 Nov 2011 05:26:50 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 1467@/talks/discussions
Let’s look at a very good wide-aperture prime, the Canon 35mm f/1.4 “L” lens. Here are the Imatest results for fifteen Canon 35mn f1/.4 lenses measured at both f/1.4 and f/2.8 apertures. (The number on the vertical axis is the MTF 50 weighted average for the entire lens, that on the horizontal axis is MTF50 at the center point).

More lenses compared:

Small conclusion:
1.Some lenses benefit greatly from being stopped down, others very little.
2.For those lenses that do benefit, stopping down just to f/2.0 provides the majority of resolution improvement. The difference between wide open and f/2.0 is generally much greater than the difference between f/2.0 and the maximum resolution.
3. Getting the edges and corners sharp requires stopping down to at least f/4 for most wide-aperture primes, and some really need f/5.6. Stopping down to f/2.8 may maximize center sharpness but often makes only a slight difference in the corners, at least on a full-frame camera.
4. None of the lenses performed any better after f/5.6 (for the center) or f/8 for the corners. Most were clearly getting softer at f/11.

Point and Shoot Basic Question http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9327/point-and-shoot-basic-question Sun, 12 Jan 2014 23:30:43 +0000 ragnar 9327@/talks/discussions Is it true that if I zoom in a bit on my point and shoots cams that my images will be a bit sharper? The range of my Canon S110 and S100 are 24mm to 120mm. So would, say 60mm produce a sharper image than either 24mm or 120mm?

Also, do these point and shoot cams also have an F-stop sweet spot like my Lumix 100-300 lens where between f5 or f8 is its sharpest. Is that the same for point and shoots?

Aerial GH2 wide shots, suggest settings http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2875/aerial-gh2-wide-shots-suggest-settings Sun, 15 Apr 2012 19:26:57 +0000 robbie75vr 2875@/talks/discussions Hi guys,

I need your suggestion about what patch to use for low altitude aerial footage, filmed with panny 7-14, subjects are most of the times under very contrasted sunny light, most of the times buildings or detailed nature..

I need low contrast and high latitude to color grade in post and most of all I need the lowest amount of sharpness possible, or not at all would be perfect.

What patch and settings do you suggest me ? (24p or 25p is good)

Thanks

How To Improve Image Quality From Soft Lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1987/how-to-improve-image-quality-from-soft-lenses Wed, 11 Jan 2012 13:52:05 +0000 apefos 1987@/talks/discussions The challenge: to use the lenses wide open to get the most shallow dof in GH2. But this makes the image soft because almost all lenses are soft wide open. So what is the solution? Watch the video tutorial on vimeo
