I did much of the editing a while back, but then i had to change computer; including a transition from windows 7 to windows 8.1; i started editing the project in PP & AE CC back on my old machine and all was fine. but recently - it seems like it happened with the big 2014 update (as i am obviously not the only one who has issues) - i am having trouble with my .MTS files from the GH2. I use them outside the stream folder structure as individual files. and i had the weird bug, where i had to rename folders to make my files work in Premiere after the update (as they suggest as a workaround in the official forums). But now, i am having problems with the MTS files outside of premiere too. I wanted to make proxy files out of some of them, or check them out with gspot. something is wrong with the compression format, the codec or something. i tried re-installing quicktime (i think to recall that the mts is a mpeg2 wrapper) with no luck. does anybody have an idea what it might be?

Mountain Lion updated to 10.8.3. Windows 8 Boot Camp support. Cuda Updated http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3877/-mountain-lion-updated-to-10.8.3.-windows-8-boot-camp-support.-cuda-updated Thu, 12 Jul 2012 12:33:50 +0000 driftwood 3877@/talks/discussions Having just looked at the Gold Master release of OSX Mountain Lion there appears to be a little problem opening our mts files straight from the card for viewing. It seems the Private folder is registered to open with Quicktime X, and, although you get to see your thumbnails of your card's clips, when you double-click to open each of the mts streams you are met with a 'Document Could Not Be Opened... unknown error' on the "BDMV" folder.

You then have to Right-Click 'Show Package Contents' to Get inside each subfolder, down to the Stream folder before you can open your .mts files for playback. This also happens whether registered mts files are with movist or not.

Let's hope they sort out native support of the AVC/mts/mpeg-4/h264 standard before the release version!

Update: With 10.8.3 The same problem persists with opening SD cards' MTS files. You'll have to go through the usual Open Package Contents or rename the Private Folder to get inside the folder tree.

OSX video Optimization http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5099/osx-video-optimization Sat, 03 Nov 2012 17:27:59 +0000 QuinEtiam 5099@/talks/discussions I have an early 2009 13' Macbook. 2.25Ghz C2D 4GB RAM 250 GB 5400rpm Hard Drive

As you can imagine it would be slow trying work with HD video files, especially huge AIC and ProRes files.

I got a 16GB Patriot Supersonic Boost XT USB 3.0 Flash Drive and dump all the AIC and ProRes files on there instead on the Hard drive.

I hit a bottle neck of around 100Mbps while playing in QT and of course any kind of editing just bogged down.

But after some tweaks I can smoothly play a 1080 60p AIC/ProRes file at 200Mbps, the file is 1.16GB and 50 seconds in length.

Automator App to rename .MTS and generate .THM files for 5DtoRGB http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2714/automator-app-to-rename-.mts-and-generate-.thm-files-for-5dtorgb Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:27:34 +0000 simonstar66 2714@/talks/discussions Hi everyone

I had some workflow troubles because the .MTS files often have identical names and there is no timecode in the Quicktimes when I generate them with 5DtoRGB.

I wrote a short Automator app, which adds the creation time to the .MTS filename and generates a .THM file with the creation date and time as EXIF data.

For it to work you need ExifTool: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

And the file template.THM has to be in /Applications/THM creator/

When you convert these files with 5DtoRGB (Batch) it will add timecode to the Quicktimes.

Feel free to use it or change and improve it if you have more ideas. For example I wanted to create the .THM file as a real thumbnail from the .MTS. But didn't manage. Will be very useful for me as I'll not run into the annoying situation anymore when there are files with identical names and timecodes. Hopefully it is useful for some of you, too.

Cheers

H.264 to self-contained Quicktime file? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3217/h.264-to-self-contained-quicktime-file Tue, 15 May 2012 15:14:24 +0000 bostonmike 3217@/talks/discussions After all the help I got with converting HD to SD and formatting it on a DVD, the film festival I'm taking part in decides to change the guidelines just days before the start of it. They are now accepting HD and will take a USB flashdrive as long as it conforms to the following guidelines:

A self-contained Quicktime file - codecs for HD: Apple Intermediate Codec, DVCProHD, HDV, Motion JPEG-A, Apple Pro-Res 4.2.2 (not HQ, LT, or 4.4.4), or H.264 (with a data rate of at least 16Mbps)

So I'm using my GH2 on a PC, rendering in Vegas Movie Studio HD 11.0, shooting 1080p 24fps

This is going to be shown a full-sized movie theater screen, so I want to maintain as much quality as possible. I wonder if there is any way of doing this without buying Quicktime Pro?

Thanks
