I, living in Norway, can only record for 29min 59sec. (This limit is an EU law has this restriction as it is a still picture camera and not a motion picture camera. Different taxes).

Share your D7100 movie picture style http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10661/share-your-d7100-movie-picture-style Tue, 24 Jun 2014 06:16:07 +0000 psychoanima 10661@/talks/discussions Hi all,

I am the proud owner of the D7100 and I don't know if you were desperate as I was while watching first movie tests recorded with this camera. You guess it: Horizontal noise, or bending if you prefer.

Of course I tried different picture styles for D7000 and they looked terrible because the sensor is not the same. The D7000's chip doesn't have same banding issues as Toshiba's on D7100.

So, I decided to experiment by myself with PictureControlUtility and create my own style that can satisfy my needs while shooting the video with my awesome D7100. My picture style can be found here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3jwjilqgqtf4sgi/D7l00K.rar

It's based on Neutral pic style. With this look I can go up to ISO 4000 and to enjoy image quality, where grain looks more film like and less digital. It has more contrast than usual Neutral style, BUT less horizontal noise, and in my case I can recover dark parts very easily in DaVinci Resolve.

Anyway, I open this topic because I would like, as many others I guess, to see from other videographers their custom D7100 Picture style(s), to share it here with the other users as an alternative for shooting with less 'bending' headache :)

Cheers!

DSLR Cameras: Important things about Flat Profile Picture Style http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10337/dslr-cameras-important-things-about-flat-profile-picture-style- Thu, 08 May 2014 05:19:29 +0000 davidhjlindberg 10337@/talks/discussions Hey guys!

I just answered a question I got a few days ago in this video. It's about using a flat profile picture style as well as setting up some of the settings in your camera to make it as flat as possible, and why you should leave some settings although everyone says you shouldn't.

Let me know what you think of these thoughts!

GH2 film modes http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/461/gh2-film-modes Fri, 22 Jul 2011 09:31:58 +0000 Ptchaw 461@/talks/discussions
Personally I use nostalgic for most shooting. Ocassionally I'll use cine mode if there are highlights that I want to preserve. Both with sharpening turned off.

For dynamic range, nostalgic seems to be the best bet: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/PanasonicDMCGH2/page12.asp though it will blow your highlights easily and does give a slight colour tint.

Does anyone else have preferences?

Canon's Picture Style Editor necessary for color grade? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4798/canons-picture-style-editor-necessary-for-color-grade Wed, 03 Oct 2012 02:33:09 +0000 RyanPW 4798@/talks/discussions I recently came upon this great short film shot with the Canon 550d, and I found the color grade just blew me away. I noticed that their was some film grain added, and some other work done, but I found something about the quality of the image to really stand out from a lot of other 550d footage. It was in fact the Picture Style Editor that Canon has which allows you to create a preset that does a color balance without affecting your skin tones. This was mentioned in the comments of the video (the 8th person down) as a main reason why the director doesn't work with a gh2, as their is no form of this for doing a proper color grade while maintaining the skin tones.

Here is the video:

But could you not do the same grade in after effects with something like the Color Finesse tool? Or perhaps in CS6's speedgrade program (I have not used this yet)? It would seem quite compelling to me that panasonic does not have an option like this for their camera's as it does make a pretty big difference, but perhaps it is only because their is another work around that the director of this video did not know about? I'm curious to hear if anyone knows a solution to this problem, as I'd love to keep my skin tones intact for future shoots as I really do like the color grade of this video.

Thanks for the input!

'No Valid Picture' when trying to patch http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4626/no-valid-picture-when-trying-to-patch Tue, 18 Sep 2012 23:24:31 +0000 thegood83 4626@/talks/discussions I've tried dozens of patches, and the one currently on my camera is 'bkmcwd Valkyrie 444 TYPE-ZERO1'. So, today I decided to try Flowmotion, and now all of a sudden it won't load. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, I did all the usual steps: formatted in camera, ran PTools 3.65d, loaded GH2__V11.bin, clicked F to load Flow Motion settings, named the new firmware GH2__V12.bin with 2 underscores, clicked play on the camera in Creative Movie Mode, now I get the 'No Valid Picture' error. I'm stuck!

Oh yes, my card is an Extreme Pro 95 MB 32 GB. Thanks in advance :)

Short Film Projects Tech. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4320/short-film-projects-tech.- Tue, 21 Aug 2012 11:01:29 +0000 samberg123 4320@/talks/discussions Please bare with me as i'm not too technically proficient...

I need some help...I want to shoot 3-4 Short Films with my newly purchased Panasonic GH2 and I am constantly amazed at the results that the hacks produced through this forum have reached.

I need a little guidance as to which patch is best for me and how I can apply the hacks to my camera?

I want as close to a standard Motion Picture look as I can get (without sounding patronising). I know a lot is in the colour grading but if I could be able to shoot raw footage that complements skin tones, looks perfectly clear and sharp and shoots at 24fps with a beautiful rendering close to any "Hollywood," standard footage for Short Film Drama use produces then i'd be an extremely happy filmmaker.

Continue the good work guys and gals it's all looking brilliant!

Viva the GH2 Revolution! :)

Custom picture profiles question http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3712/custom-picture-profiles-question Wed, 27 Jun 2012 20:20:47 +0000 JPB1138 3712@/talks/discussions Just looking for information, from anyone who has been working on a hack to get at the picture profiles (smooth, cinema, etc.) to try and get something FLATTER like a technicolor cinestyle preset on canon, or even like the Cine-D setting on the AF100. I'd love to see a flat setting like that. Had a rough shoot this past weekend near sunset, just a lot of shadows mixed with a lot of highlights, and im sure a lot of others have had similar issues. I used to own an AF100 and the only two things I miss are the 1080p variable frame-rates and the flat cinema-D look.

If anyone has any new info on this feel free to comment. I'd love to see this get done as the next frontier of the hack. I just don't know if its possible or if anyone is even working on it...

As a new challenge for pool development, is it possible to hack film modes to get own ultra-flat "log V (vitally)" Picture profile, and with hight bit-rate combination to get real cinematic color scheme, and get a real big improvement of dynamic range (lets dream about 12 stops)?

SOLVED: GH2 Firmware upgrade - No Valid Picture to Play error http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1809/solved-gh2-firmware-upgrade-no-valid-picture-to-play-error Wed, 21 Dec 2011 19:41:38 +0000 wastedthelight 1809@/talks/discussions
When you open pTool and load the firmware, at the bottom you should see a letter somewhere between A and J in green, click it. This now loads the presets. NOW click "Version Increment" (first option in the option tree). Then change the Increment to something such as 10.

The key issue here is that I was changing the Version Increment BEFORE clicking the presets. So as far as the camera was concerned, no new firmware was on my card.]]>
New free picture profiles for the Sony FS100 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1594/new-free-picture-profiles-for-the-sony-fs100 Wed, 30 Nov 2011 03:34:37 +0000 FrankGlencairn 1594@/talks/discussions
anyway, here are some picture Profiles I made for the Sony FS100. This is work in progress. I get a lot of input from fellow filmmakers and I learn something on every shooting with the FS100, so I try to improve those settings, to get the best out of that great little camera.

Every input, that helps to make the profiles better is appreciated.
