I'm currently working as a videographer for like 10 months right now. Mostly 'specialized' in doing guerrilla style music videos. My goal is to achieve the high budget look, with the low budget costs (don't we all).

Gear used on both videos:

Panasonic GH2 cam with flowmotion hack
Two Minolta MD lenses, 28mm F1.8 and 50mm F.17
Sigma 19mm F2.8
Mostly shot with: a rig, tripod, table slider and handheld

My goal is to eventually work more with commercial artists and especially to learn as much as possible about cinematography and cinematic aspects used in music videos.

Would love to receive some feedback on both videos!

Hello, We are going to shoot a tv show for Japan, here in Spain. We got FS7 on NTSC 60i as they want it, but is imposible to shoot interlaced on A7sII. I' m wondering about to put the small A7S II on NTSC 60p and leting them interlace in post the footage. What do you think? Would be a total mess or will work for them? Thanks

my girlfriend recently bought her first camera. She started out in January and I think she is making incredible progress. Unfortunately she is not getting a lot of views on her videos.

The Windmill and the Gulls (Sony RX-100 IV + BMPCC)

We shot this one together in February. The location is Bremen, Germany.

Shooting NTSC for a PAL final, using GH2 in PAL, and a Gh4 in NTSC as backup. Advice?

This Tuesday, I'm doing a shoot where the client requested that the final footage be in PAL format: 25fps, Quicktime, 1080i. Obviously, I'm in America, because this wouldn't be an issue otherwise. I have two questions for which advice would be appreciated.

Happily, thanks to Vitaly's hack, I can use my GH2 to shoot PAL natively. And since I'm thinking of buying a GH4, I rented one for the weekend, and will bring it along as a backup/second unit camera. Thing is, the GH4 can only shoot NTSC.

So I figure, I'll convert my GH2 footage to Quicktime fairly easily, but I'd like to know what the best Quicktime export settings would be for Premier Pro CC. That's question #1.

The GH4 footage will be converted to PAL 25fps Quicktime, so I'd like to know what framerate would offer me any advantages in the conversion. Would it be better to shoot 24fps, or would shooting at 60fps enable a cleaner conversion to 25fps?

(I won't be shooting 4K, though. I want to experiment with that, maybe tomorrow.)

I found a link here that lets you download the service manual: http://elektrotanya.com/panasonic_dmc-gh3_series.pdf/download.html and I read through at page 16-19 shows you "How to define the Model Suffix", it shows you how to select the model suffix after replacing Main P.C.B.

My question is would it be possible for me to change my GH3PC (NTSC) camera to a GH3GC (PAL - India)? This would allow me to use in Europe without recording limit.

Hello everybody! My name is Nicu (Nikolay) and I'm new on this forum. Today I recieved my GH3 camera from US, and I realized that this is NTSC version, but I'm living in Moldova, and I need PAL mode. So, my question: Is it possible to modify the firmware (v 1.1) to change from NTSC mode to PAL? Thanks in advice!

I have an option of buying a GX7 that's been imported from Japan (though apparently it's all in English). Does this mean that the camera is essentially NTSC, offering 30p and 60p recording, rather than just 25p and 50p of the EU version? Thanks.

GH2 - GF2 drewnet v6 PAL - NTSC output influence on 24p footage

I've been using my GH2 with the drewnet v6 hack in NTSC output mode for a long time (in PAL land). Now that I've got an extra GF2 (also drewnet v6 installed), I want to combine footage of both the camera's. I'm thinking about using 720 25p on both camera's to do so (unless someone has a better idea). But I'm also in the middle of a bigger 1080 24p project on the GH2. When I change the GH2 from NTSC output to PAL, does this influence the 1080 24p footage in any way?

I've bought 2 GH3's PAL and want to start recording videos for the web. Now i know that 30p is best for the web but what would be the best footage/way to convert and what program or hardware to use? Would like to have option to use footage for dvd.

50p to 30p or 24p to 30p

Does anyone know which would give the best results? Or would 24p itself work fine? The videos are only static shots of a guitar(lesson) so no panning.

A second question would be: i want to do live streaming with those 2 cams, would 24p be the best setting for live internet streaming? I've heard 25p is crappy and 50p not yet possible...

YouTube Pal Settings

We have been uploading to YouTube for a number of years now and although I am reasonably pleased with the final look there is one thing that I can't seem to get right. Motion seems to be jumpy and certainly shots with a lot of movement come out quite poor. Here is my workflow:

1080/50 p footage edited

Output to 1080/25p Mp4 h264 codec 10000 mbps

Upload to YouTube

I have read on the YouTube site that you should keep your footage frame rate and your output the same but I thought that conflicted with other information I read that said you should output to Mp4 for best results ( cant have 50p with Mp4)

I thought I would ask here if there was anyone with similar experience here and any helpful tips. I did look at other topics but this question was not specifically addressed.

I got a japanese version of GH2 but I'm in hongkong. So I'll be shooting with PAL 25p. I've read the previous threads about the stable patch for 25p dated 16mar. Mostly Gop3zilla + sedna A settings. However, when i loaded the hack, there is still no language menu for me to choose from unlike other hacks. Also, I'm wondering if there is any update on the stable patches that works great for 25p? Thank you so much.

I have a brand new GH2 (couldn't wait for GH3) form B&H for cheap.

I installed Apocalipse Now patch and I can't find a way to shoot in the best quality at 1080 25p (progressive). Looks like there's some option for 1080 25i, but not in HBR mode (as I understand this is the best quality mode) . In HBR it can make only 30p.

Is it possible to record in HBR mode in 25p? I could'n find the exact answer around.

Well, if it's no possible to shoot 1080 25 progressive , maybe I have to sell it... :(

Is there some hope for my case?

GH2 Batteries - Japanese GH2 Battery working in Australia GH2 and vice versa?

Just wondering whether anyone has had any experience with using official GH2 batteries from different regions from where they bought their GH2 from.

I.e. Using a Japanese GH2 battery in an Australian GH2.

I only ask as there's two different GH2 battery models: DMW-BLC12 (America / Japan) DMW-BLC12E (European / Australian)

The power output is the same on both models. (7.2V 1200mAh 8.7Wh)

Music video for Argentinian synthpop band (with lyrics in English!)

Hi! This is the first material I share here. I shot it completely at 720p50 (I wanted 60p, but the band couldn't keep up, they had to play too fast!), with the GH2 of course. The hack was 88Mbps, but the 50p footage wasn't up to par, and ended up showing compression artifacts I had to get rid of.

This was the first work I made with the GH2, only 4 days after it arrived! It was crazy. I used the kit lens for the few wide angle shots there are (the 14-42mm), the 20mm f1.7 and a Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm f1.7, which I still have and love it (although I want to get a PG f1.4).

The video was shot in a single day, kind of in a hurry. I actually like narrative stuff, just didn't have the chance to do it here, but I'll be showing a couple more videos I made that actually tell a story later.

Please tell me what you think!

I own a Panasonic ZS20 compact camera and I am looking for a way to use it in Europe (switching it to PAL for recording proper video for EU). I believe that PTool allows to do that for the older TZ10.

Are there any plans for supporting the TZ30/ZS20 as well?

first time hacking GH2 ntsc to use PAL - problems

hi there, first, thank you all, its great to be a part of a growing community. i got my NTSC GH2 and i need to use it in PAL mode. it came with firmware 1.1, i use SanDisk extreme UHS-1 45MB/s x300 cards (32 & 16 GB). i tried to hack it using EOSHD patch 44 Vanilla, and it seemed to work well, i was recording almost 40 minutes but then i went outside (while continuing the shot) and after few seconds i got this message "MOTION RECORDING TERMINATED DUE TO CARD WRITE SPEED LIMITATION" (somthing like that) and the camera freezed. only removing the battery restarted it. i wonder is there a known issue with this card type, or that the patch i used isn't reliable to use on originaly NTSC body in PAL mode? i have to run more tests, i loaded the body now with the original 1.1 firmware and changed only the 30 minutes limitation, the ISO expending option and the PAL/NTSC switching option. any suggestions for a reliable patch that'll work for me with these cards & body?

Hello, first I'd like to introduce myself and thank everyone who makes this place run, its amazing the amount of knowledge and resources here introduce myself. I'm Albi and have recently bought a GH2 and a bunch of lenses. I have been working as a camera assistant for other camera men who have budgets. I have been a long time waiting for a camera system that I could afford and that shoots nice images so I can begin shooting my own work and getting it out there. After having read and watched so much about these great patches I ditched my cannon stills gear and invested in the GH2.

I'm looking for advice on which patches to use. I would like to be shooting 1080 25p Pal. I'm looking for a patch which is reliable for long takes, documentaries. A patch which is good for motion and doesn't give the strobing effect when panning or moving the camera around, I will be shooting on a shoulder mount a lot. I'd also like to be able to project the final production. Am I looking for too much out of this tiny camera?

I also need advice on settings. Because I want PAL 1080 25p does this confine me to shooting in HBR mode only? I see a lot of work has been done in the cinema 24p setting but I need 25fps and therefore this is useless for me, advice appreciated.

I have tried many of the patches and so far find Flow Motion V2 to be the most stable in my limited experience. Some of the other patches freeze the camera when I'm in HBR mode or don't span, I'm probably missing a setting.

Finally this is what I'm using:

GH2 Nokton 25mm Zeiss 28, 45, 50, 180mm Takumar 135mm 1x Scandisk 30mb/s 16gi 1x Scandisk 95mb/s 64gig 3X Transcend Class 10 16gb

I'm really looking forward to hearing any advice, especially from people who shoot in PAL land. Thanks guys.

What hacked bitrate does "High Bit Rate" (HBR) adopt?

This is my first post so I'd like to first thank the Personal View team for such a tremendous resource. I bought a GH2 in January and have been blown away by its capabilities.

I have been playing with various hacks and have a question regarding the High Bit Rate mode (HBR). If I apply a firmware hack, what bit rate does the HBR adhere to? For example, in the Driftwood AQuamotion v2 .ini file, there is the following information:

Video Bitrate 24H=100000000 Video Bitrate 24L=88000000 Video Bitrate FSH/SH=68000000 Video Bitrate FH/H=56000000

But "HBR" isn't in there. Does HBR adopt one of the above bit rates instead? If so, which one exactly?

I'm using a European model GH2 (PAL), I don't know if that should make any difference to my question.

I currently have a GH2 PAL version with the updated Panasonic firmware. I am looking at an additional GH2, and was considering to purchase a NTSC model. One question I have been trying to find out, and can never seem to get a firm answer about the hack. I hope someone can really clear the air for me, or guide me to the info.

Will I be able to use a NSTC GH2, hack and set it to unit PAL to perform the 50i/25p/24p...? I would like to have both the original PAL and new NSTC cameras set identically (which needs to be PAL)... so would this be possible? or is it recommended get a PAL model instead...?

Hi everybody! As most of the great patches and settings for GH2 work great on NTSC cameras but not at all on PAL ones, I am opening this topic. Thanks in advance for posting stable patches for GH2, but only for PAL cameras please!

I attached one setting which works great and very stable in 25p and 24p 1080 modes, spans until apertures f/3.5 always, if f/4.0 or darker- needs bit of luck, also with very fast SD cards. Firmware 1.0 and Ptool 3.63

I will soon work as a cameraman in a documentary film shot mostly with a Canon XF100 Pal in 50i mode. My role will be a B camera, with a GH2 I'm going to buy in Japan. My question is, what is the best patch to turn landscape plans in 50i that can be fitted well with the Canon XF100?

Need to edit 720 X 576 movs on fcp without motion blur...

Something in the vein of luxury problems.
I found myself breaking my head over what road to go when it comes to buying into a (new) lens system.
As a PAL native and I felt a little 'put off/betrayed' by panasonic because of the PAL related issues when it comes to the our beloved gh2.
It raised pherhaps completely unnecessary questions like: Will I stick with lumix for the next couple of years? If not? Is it wise to infest a lot of money into a M43 system?
Since I feel that panasonic abandoned me and my PAL pals a little, will I stay faithful to them?
So my question is, what would be a good way to go lensewise that does well on the GH2 but could also soften divorce procedure when going into a potential new marriage in the future?
