Searching for alternative, old macro lenses, any experience in macro video filming ... ?

Old wide angle lenses (24mm, 28mm) on m43 ?

Hi everyone,

I read that wider than 35mm RF (Leica) lenses doesn't perform well on m43 (for some optical reasons), does anyone have a wide reflex lens that works well ? I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to the Nokton for a friend, and was wondering if a canon fd 24mm 1.4 would be a good purchase for around 400€.

This is a new music video I directed for Glasgow based band- Behold the Old Bear It took 3 months planning, 2 days shooting and a month editing.

I have had several people comment of the similarities to Michel Gondry.

Influences and visual references include Taxi Driver, Radioheads- No Surprises, Howl and The Shining and pretty much all of Kubricks work.

Small and lightweight zoom for S35 with good focal range?

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a zoom that covers S35 with an f/stop of about 2.8 (ideally fixed) that would be small and lightweight more or less in the range of something like 20-85mm and/or 35-120mm.

I hope to avoid still lenses for mechanical reasons and also to get that "warmth" and organic nature one might get from older cine lenses. I might consider older still lenses that are all manual and have good mechanics.

Versatility, size and weight are my major concerns. I'm not trying to find optical perfection here. In fact imperfections (low corner sharpness, flaring, etc.) are welcomed as I prefer older glass with digital capture anyways if it gives me good center sharpness.

Modern cine zooms are huge and bulky and expensive and I'm not looking to rent. That's why I've been thinking about older lenses mostly. Ideally something that could be converted to EF mount. Flexible budget depending on the lens.

I've been digging the net for some days now and I've come mostly empty handed. Only option I found was this small 1kg Optar 25-80 T3.4 but I was hoping to widen my options. (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?31664-Optar-25-80mm-PL-mt-Lens-for-sale)

Any suggestions?

Lenses to use with GH4 / 4K Cameras

I'm pretty excited about the potential of the GH4 (and I suppose any other 4K cameras at $2,000 or so). I am currently using the GH13, mainly in 720p mode with a variety of legacy full frame lenses. Canon FD, Minolta MD, Nikon, Helios, Pentax etc. These all produce a lovely image, less clinical than the Panasonic 14-140 kit lens, IMHO.

Now with 4k coming along, I'm wondering if these older lenses will have any chance of producing the detailed images that the higher resolution sensors are capable of. Or, whether the way forward would be to use an RJ or Metabones speed booster with these lenses to get the detail/ resolution? It would be a shame to not be able to get the benefits of 4k unless using m43 lenses.

Does anyone have any experience, or opinions on this subject? I'd appreciate any comments.

I watch some movies I subtracted master Coppola, including an excellent thriller 'The Conversation' of his early years. My first reaction just came out the first pictures is that it looks like when you combine the GH2 or GH1 with old lenses for its look and color, but the texture of the film different though but not as radical.

I think what Coppola to see shots of the GH2 was somewhat familiar with this movie great unknown but which he felt so proud. I'd love to ask him about it, but that is almost impossible.

Excuse me if this thread its trivial and offtopic, but wanted to share this impression.

And I recommend to all screenwriters and directors see this movie frugal, sometimes with limited resources and without a very complex story, but well told and surprising elements can do a good job in this case is a masterpiece.

Old m43 gears

I rarely use GH2's touchscreen and ETC features. Hope Panasonic don't go higher than 16MP.

GH2 has shorter shutter lag and faster AF, but I like GH1 for static photo. 14MP magic? I'm gonna carry GH1 + 14mm 2.5 to capture this fall season.

GF1 is slower than GH1, but the static photo looks special. 12MP magic? I don't own it, but I like its rugged body. My GH13's body coating already began peeling off.

It's good to keep the good old GH1 or GF1 body. Especially GF1.
