The XDR boasts 6K, while the Asus is a 4K monitor; however, only the 2019 Mac Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro can run the XDR at full 6K resolution. Both the Asus and the Apple are true 10-bit displays.

Apple claims 500 nits for their display in SDR mode and 1,000 nits sustained and 1,600 nits peak brightness in HDR mode. The Asus can deliver anywhere from 620-656 nits in SDR and from 1,400-1,534 nits maximum brightness in HDR, depending on which reviewer you read.

The Pro Display XDR has 576 local dimming zones, whereas the Asus has 1,152.

On his YouTube channel, Marques Brownlee says his Pro Display XDR is virtually silent, while the Asus is supposed to get quite noisy.

According to Asus, the maximum viewing angle of the PA32UCX-K is 178 degrees in the horizontal and vertical (Apple claims 180 degree viewing angle for the XDR), and according to tests, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast and color temperature remain virtually unchanged even at extreme viewing angles. I expect Apple’s display will be no slouch in this department either.

As far as connectivity goes, Apple’s monitor has one TB3 port and three USB-C ports. The Asus comes with dual TB3 ports, one DisplayPort and three HDMI 2.0 ports.

The Apple Pro Display XDR runs $6,500 in the USA when purchased with stand and AppleCare+. Throw in the nano-texture glass option and that figure skyrockets to $7,500.00. In Vietnam, the ProArt 32UCX-K costs half as much ($3,300.00) and comes with stand, a three-year warranty and an X-Rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter (value $250.00 in USA, $325 in VN). With the Asus, you will however have to factor in another grand for Blackmagic’s UltraStudio 4K Mini. Ouch!

Reference mini active speakers topic http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4437/reference-mini-active-speakers-topic Fri, 31 Aug 2012 14:59:20 +0000 gameb 4437@/talks/discussions I cannot find anything that convinces me. Klein & Hummel MM 201 or M 52, Genelec 6010, Avantone Pro, Audioengine etc. are great but are "too big" for what I want. I am looking for something really small, portable, like the Ucube (80mmx80mm), but when I listened to them in the shop, I was disappointed. I only need a decent reference, so I don't have to edit with the sound coming from the MBP13 or the headphones. Appreciate suggestions.

REC 2020 - Finally, REC 709 is getting the boot http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10664/rec-2020-finally-rec-709-is-getting-the-boot Tue, 24 Jun 2014 19:06:16 +0000 shian 10664@/talks/discussions

"People mistakenly call it a color space," Griffis said. "It's actually a two-dimensional plane and what you really need to know if you're a creative is this is your palette of colors but what the horseshoe chart doesn't tell you is how bright each color can get. White will always be the brightest because it's the sum of all three primary colors."

"So we've got this interesting problem that we've lived with for the better part of 60 years where the colors in film go out farther but you can't get as bright and in television there are less colors but you can get brighter," Griffis told Gizmodo. "And the practical consequence of that for the content creator is that the Red Bus of London that looked so great in the movie looks like Campbell's Tomato Soup on the Blu-ray unless someone does something."

So Dolby (who makes the most amazing video monitors) finally did something. And When it hits TVs and Computer monitors... all this REC 709 bullshit can finally fuck off.

I am so damn happy... you don't even know.

GlobalMediaPro monitors -- does anyone know if they are any good. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11589/globalmediapro-monitors-does-anyone-know-if-they-are-any-good. Sat, 18 Oct 2014 14:50:09 +0000 andyharris 11589@/talks/discussions Does anyone know about this company selling monitors in the US?

http://cdn1.globalmediapro.com/att/a/2/j/w/a2jw83/t-ss15-5spec.pdf

This is not expensive and might help with critical focus following on set or at events. Trouble is I know nothing of this company --- has anyone else any suggestions to throw in? I was searching for SDI monitors that could be battery powered in the 12-16 inch size range.

Cheers ... Andy

Deal wish list for associated BMD products http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10294/deal-wish-list-for-associated-bmd-products Thu, 01 May 2014 17:35:36 +0000 catscratch 10294@/talks/discussions I'm new to this site but already have benefited from some fantastic deals on some quality products (thanks Vasiliy!). I've currently got a list of additional items that I will pull the trigger on as soon as funds allow.

There are, however, a few of items that I would dearly love to get a deal on and can't seem turn any up in various searches.

As the title suggests I'm interested in Black Magic Design (Cinema, Production,Pocket) cameras. One area that I'm on the constant hunt for is consumables, specifically BMD compliant SSDs (240 and 480GB) and to a lesser extent batteries (in my case V mount, but others may be chasing AB or others) .

Another item would be an affordable 3G SDI equipped 24p monitor.

Also affordable "technical" cables and conectors eg. SDI, lemo etc

Any help would be appreciated

GH2 to Macbook for live monitoring - wired options? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7209/gh2-to-macbook-for-live-monitoring-wired-options Mon, 10 Jun 2013 11:11:04 +0000 Social 7209@/talks/discussions Hi all,

I've been looking around for info on how to use my new 2013 macbook pro to show live video primarily, and images if possible, that are being recorded/photographed live from my GH2... essentially using my Macbook as a monitor.

There is a thread on PV that is a couple of years old which I have posted to, but through I'd open this up as a new topic as well, as I'm sure there are people out there in GH2 land who could do with this info as well. Here's a link to the original topic: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1207/gh2-live-streaming-solutions/p1

I'm hoping that in the 2 years since the original thread, the tech options have moved on. My macbook has thunderbolt, which, from experience connecting macbook to tv, works well with hdmi, and as thunderbolt connectivity can be used to transfer data from a hard drive back and forth, it must be a 2 way connection, so theoretically should allow for possible hdmi data being inputed to my mac.

I am relatively new to this and am trying to gather information, as this forum has been so informative in the past, I wanted to ask you guys what you would do in my situation? I would appreciate cheaper options if possible, primarily wired options as from scouring the web, there are issues with data signal interruptions and signal distance on wireless options.... plus wired is, I expect, considerably cheaper!

Can you help?

Thanks, Rob
