  • Their fund raising campaign for one developer to devote two full man months on some long desired re-factoring succeeded - and quickly!

  • kdenlive 0.9.2 was just released, addressing some regressions from the 10 days old 0.9 release, which introduced numerous interesting features (see http://kdenlive.org/discover/0.9 for a list).

Two new features I found especially notable:

  • The availability of a second video stabilizing filter (which was ported from "transcode"), which offers numerous parametrization options (that the first stabilizer, "vstab" is somewhat lacking).

  • Automatic synchronization of video tracks taken from different cameras at the same time (by using the audio track similarities).

Lightworks topic http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4804/lightworks-topic Wed, 03 Oct 2012 18:49:02 +0000 goanna 4804@/talks/discussions

Our solution was to avoid rewriting the Windows-specific code at all (it was, after all, tried, tested and optimized). Instead, we decided to move it to a new operating-system dependent layer which we engineered to have an OS independent interface.

Once this was complete, we were then able to begin work on a Linux implementation of that same layer. In essence, the Lightworks code is now split in two - the OS-independent code (eg. editing, play-engine, etc) which uses the OS-dependent code (eg. file access, threading, etc).

The OS independent code accounts for about 97% of the total codebase. The bulk of the work in porting to Linux was actually in re-engineering the existing code, not in writing the Linux-specific layer.

Linux of course doesn't have [Windows'] Direct3D, so we had to reimplement all the Linux GPU specific code using OpenGL.

This development has been long-awaited. Once again, risk-averse developers are showing us how OSes, once the mainstay of IT revenue, are losing relevance.

What's next - Lightworks for Android? -only a few lines of code away.

Brand film produced on minimal budget - partly shot on GH4 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14530/brand-film-produced-on-minimal-budget-partly-shot-on-gh4 Wed, 03 Feb 2016 02:59:59 +0000 Chris74 14530@/talks/discussions So excited. My first ever brand film was just launched.

My journey in helping Tuxera to humanize their brand started in early October 2015. From the very beginning, it was clear that our limited budget meant that we had to be innovative, both in terms of story and actual production. We decided to go for a mix of carefully selected stockfootage and combine it with some powerful low key footage from the Tuxera lab, which we shot with a GH4 on a shogun.

I hope this film will help Tuxera to get closer to the billions of people powering their devices with their ground breaking software.

AVLinux http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13687/avlinux Thu, 10 Sep 2015 10:45:11 +0000 apefos 13687@/talks/discussions First thing about Linux:

Get the distro called AVLinux 6.0.4 while you can...

I downloaded and tested lots of Linux distros pointed by http://www.distrowatch.com and I found AVLinux to be the best one for audio/video/graphics work because it is solid, robust, stable, full of softwares already installed in the live DVD, easy to install, no need updates to work properly, can be installed without internet connection, and has the best kdenlive video editor version, the 0.9.10, the most stable and bug free, and also other useful softwares, handbrake for pulldown removal, blender for video stabilization, can configure keyboard for different languages, has gparted for disk partition, can use ext4 format for better system performance and fast boot, the desktop is lightweight and colors can be configured. It is the most perfect free software bundle for audio/video I could find. And an extra gift: kdenlive can do separate audio sync in timeline, yadif deinterlace, lanczos upscale and firewire capture for old dv/d8/hdv cameras. I am learning how to use these linux softwares and I am amazed by them. I also like gimp, libre office, inkscape and lots of audio softwares which comes in AVLinux... Jack audio and low latency kernel are included for better audio performance with audio interfaces. Synaptic Package Manager can install more software from debian repositories, mypaint, krita, and extcalc are good ones. Not sure but it seems to have drivers for Wacom devices. It can use onboard gpu or nvidia with custom drivers or nvidia drivers. This distro is 32bit, but has pae to use more memory. In terms of free software, I perceived that a stable and well configured 32bit system is better than an unstable and incomplete 64bit system.

If you want free software for audio/video AVLinux 6.0.4 is the way to go:

MP4 workflow. Mostly on Linux. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13626/mp4-workflow.-mostly-on-linux. Sun, 30 Aug 2015 11:07:23 +0000 QuinEtiam 13626@/talks/discussions I have a Panasonic v770 Camcorder.

It ouputs mov/mp4 files.

With QT Pro on Windows I can Trim and save without encoding. I'm looking for a similar workflow on Linux(Ubuntu/Mint).

Some of the linux apps such as Openshot do have mov/mp4 output but restricted to 40 Mb/s.

Raspberry Pi for recording? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3825/raspberry-pi-for-recording Sun, 08 Jul 2012 10:02:13 +0000 Preetam 3825@/talks/discussions Do you guys think it's a good idea to use a Raspberry Pi as a recording interface?

Basically, you should be able to hook up a 9V battery, USB audio interfaces (if necessary), and at least 1 microphone.

Since it's only about $25, I don't see why someone shouldn't give it a try.

Linux - PTool under Wine, video tools, anything http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/798/linux-ptool-under-wine-video-tools-anything- Mon, 29 Aug 2011 04:47:21 +0000 Roberto 798@/talks/discussions @Ptchaw
>Also, just to confirm for anyone running Linux/debian variants, PTool works nicely with Wine out of the box.

I would have said so, too - until yesterday when I got the "Invalid floating point operation" exception trying to run PTool3_62d.
