Wide aperture m43 mechanical focus ring lens http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2505/wide-aperture-m43-mechanical-focus-ring-lens Tue, 06 Mar 2012 17:17:58 +0000 mk47 2505@/talks/discussions Hello.

Im a happy new owner of the GH2. Thus far i got the following lenses 14-140mm, 20mm, 7-14mm and two oldies: pentacon 29-2.8 and helios 58-2.0. I am looking for a lens with wide open aperture and a mechanical focus ring (for follow focus). I absolutely love the pancake 20mm, but its so small i doubt the focus ring would even fit, let alone the problems these lenses have when you want to focus manually. The pentacon 29-2.8 isnt bad, but i would like a bit wider aperture and wider angle of view.

The new 17.5mm voigtlander looks lovely, but a bit costly for now. Perhaps ill get lucky and find a killer deal on the 20mm :P

What else could you recommend?

For Sale: Canon FD Prime & Zoom Lens Package w/ ND Filter Set - Complete & Color Matched http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2148/for-sale-canon-fd-prime-zoom-lens-package-w-nd-filter-set-complete-color-matched Mon, 30 Jan 2012 19:26:12 +0000 cowpunk52 2148@/talks/discussions I'm selling a complete set of Canon FD Prime Lens + 1 constant aperture zoom with a screw-on ND filter set. I spent several months putting this lens set together, making sure all the samples matched as closely as possible with no visible color shift between them. This is a perfect budget manual focus lens package to go with a GH2, AF100, FS100 or NEX camera. The glass is pristine and they all function flawlessly. Each lens is also already geared with zip tie focus gears and are ready for follow-focus attachment and operation.

I just finished shooting a feature film with these lenses on a GH2 with the Quantum 9b settings created by @driftwood and the images came out f-ing amazing. This is a truly beautiful set of very high quality glass. However, I'm purchasing a C300 package now, and these will not be adaptable to that camera... so they must go, sadly. I hand-picked each of these lenses, and love them all. I'm 100% certain you will, too!

The lenses are as follows:

20mm f2.8 FDn

28mm f2 FDn

35mm f2 FDn

50mm f1.4 SSC

85mm f1.8 SSC

135mm f2 FDn

35-105mm f3.5 FDn

The ND filter set includes:

Tiffen 72mm ND 0.6

Tiffen 72mm ND 0.9

Tiffen 72mm ND 1.2

Tiffen 62mm ND 1.2

B+W 62mm ND 1.8

Step-Up Rings: 52-72, 55-72, 52-62, 55-62, 46-52

I'll sell the complete package for $1500, including shipping to CONUS. Payment is made by Paypal as a gift, or purchase payment with fees added. I would prefer not to separate, but if you want just one or two items, send me a PM with an offer.

I also have a Novoflex m4/3 to Canon FD adapter that I will add for an additional $100 if you want it.

Complete package will be shipped in a foam cut-out hard case. Two filter slings are included for the ND set.

Normal prime lens for m43 recommendations http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2285/normal-prime-lens-for-m43-recommendations Wed, 15 Feb 2012 04:53:01 +0000 ppcroft 2285@/talks/discussions Ok, I have GH1, Lumix 20mm pancake, Lumix 14-140 and now a 85mm 1.4 Samyang Nikon mount.

Without realizing it, my GH1 had become a video camera as I found myself taking less and less pictures with it. Much as I like the 20mm, I find that I tend to use it much less as I shoot people a lot and it is not the lens for portraits.

I just got the Samyang 85mm last week and suddenly I have re-discovered the joy of shooting the stills. The 85mm is quite a joy for both video and stills and the manual focus is not the trouble I had imagined it to be. So I am looking for add a normal lens (35mm equivalent) may be in the range 35-60mm, preferably in Nikon mount with manual focus and aperture rings. Of course, I don't mind using a m4/3 or a FD lens. I would like to try a macro lens as well, so don't mind if it is macro lens in 50-60mm range. This will be used mainly for portraits, product photography and video.

I have considered the following:

Samyang 35mm 1.4 Nikkor 50mm AIS 1.8 Vivitar 55mm macro FD 50mm 1.2 Lumix Leica Elmarit 45mm 2.8 macro'

Please advise your suggestions. Thank you...

The Sigma 30mm is fairly sharp but not stellar across the frame from F2.8 thru F8. Starting with F11, the effects of diffraction start to blur the images. I have not tested vignetting but I don't see it in my test shots and it is unlikely to be an issue because the lens was made for a larger image circle. The main problem that these test shots reveal is chromatic aberration, which can reduce the positive impression of a fairly sharp lens considerably. Interestingly, chromatic aberration is not corrected even on a Panasonic body.

Gear for Using Heavy Lenses with GH2? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2316/gear-for-using-heavy-lenses-with-gh2 Sat, 18 Feb 2012 10:22:51 +0000 willianaleman 2316@/talks/discussions I have heard that the GH2 mount is not as heavy as the Canon 5D and the it is advisable to use a rail to support the lens. The heaviest lenses I have are Nikkor-P Auto 300mm, f/1:45 and Vivatar Tele-Zoom 85-205mm, f/1:3.8. Any advise on the rail would be appreciated.

GH2 - How to get a constant lens aperture? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2284/gh2-how-to-get-a-constant-lens-aperture Wed, 15 Feb 2012 01:56:57 +0000 willianaleman 2284@/talks/discussions Shooting in Movie Mode, no matter what lens I use, mechanic or electronic with GH2, the aperture in the camera changes accordingly with the light source as soon as I pan or tilt up/down. Is there a way to lock the iris within the camera, the ISO, shutter speed or wherever is causing this behavior in the camera? I'm looking for a zoom lens with constant aperture for the GH2.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Here is a list of lens used at the moment, they all behave the same:

Panasonic - 14-42 - 14 140mm

Nikon: - 135 mm 1:2.8 - 50mm 1:1.8 - 52mm 1:14 - 85-205mm 1:8 - 300mm 1:4.5

If you have ever shot with true cine lenses you know how useful it is to have a common front element diameter. I decided to get custom adapter rings made to upgrade still image lenses to a common front element diameter of 80mm. It's a must have item for everybody that shoots with still image lenses. Not only does it make your lenses look more professional, but most important it makes your life on set easier.

Pancake 20mm f1.7 vs SLR Magic 12mm f1.6? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2089/pancake-20mm-f1.7-vs-slr-magic-12mm-f1.6 Sun, 22 Jan 2012 10:46:38 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 2089@/talks/discussions People, I would like to have these two lenses, but the budget would allow me to have only one for now.

Both seems good glasses, the main use is video and film, photography as secundary, The examples indicate both are greats and cinematographic look. So, i like much use mi GH2 in the night, the luminosity is therefore a necessary condition for my.

Some people say the Panix is best, and argue the SLR is a CCTV overpriced, that argument isnt mine, so, for the tests, I think the SLR is wonderful and the price isnt excessive.

Actually I have a 14-42 its a regular lens, but is poor in low light condition and noisy in high ISO. A FD 50mm 1.8, superb, great look and softness, but have a limited angles.

I need objective opinions, thanks

Idea for a custom M4/3 adapter for video. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/891/idea-for-a-custom-m43-adapter-for-video. Thu, 08 Sep 2011 12:49:51 +0000 Gabel 891@/talks/discussions
1. Mounted sideways: This way the focus mark and aperature all end up mounted sideways, like a cine-lens. Makes life for your focus puller easier.

2. Extra tight lock: As we saw in another thread, adapters tend to be a bit loose at times. While there are ways to improve it, I would not mind and extra lock screw.

3. Ability to set flange to focal distance (shimming more or less): This might not work in practice, but this would be to make sure the focus marks are on, but as they might be off on the lens, this might be rendered moot.

And if possible a back that has a bokeh filter holder added, for getting anamorphic bokeh at a wide-angle.

Do you think this would be doable? Because an adapter like this could help a lot for us that use a focus puller and to adapt still lenses for better work for video!]]>

Mine is the 20mm. It produces really nice depth of field and is lightweight. Clients dont appreciate it because its small and they equate a huge looking lens with a better image. Im actually thinking of buying the biggest hugest lens i can find just to get clients and shooting a few warm up scenes with it. And then shooting all of the real footage with the 20mm]]>

However, I normally use a setup designed for much lighter lenses (like the 70-200mm f2.8 or 100-400mm L) and would like to hit the ground running here.

Does anyone have advice on what additional tripod to buy/rent during the two weeks I evaluate the lens to get the most out of it? Any additional considerations as compared to lighter lenses like the ones mentioned?

On an another note, does anyone have anything in particular they would like shot/evaluated/compared during those two weeks, accessible within the greater Los Angeles/SGV area?]]>

Some thoughts…
Most of the filming opportunities will be during the day.
Most of the animals will be fine with "close up" photo/video.
Most evening hours will be aboard ship.
3 days/nights in Quito.

My lens inventory:

Panny
7-14mm f4
14mm f2.5
20mm f1.7
14-140mm f4-5.6
100-300mm f4-5.6

Minolta Mount
45mm f2.8 Rokkor-x
50mm f1.4 Rokkor-x
58mm f1.4 Rokkor-x
28-200mm Vivitar f3.5-5.6

My thoughts:
0. 14mm (too small to count against the limit :)
1. 7-14mm
2. 14-140mm
3. 20mm
4. 50mm

What lens would you swap or leave? Why?

Nevermind that even the (unjusitfiedly) famous 1.2 Tomioka seem to be a pretty lousy lens, hugely over-rated and I believe, no comparison to Minolta 58mm or Nikon 55mm or many Canon lens (FL 1.2 to FD SSC 1.2) which can be easily converted to EOS mount. Just got my third Fujinon 1.2, all under 100 Euro. With the new MFT <--> Fuji AX adapter time to "downgrade" these great Fujinons to Tommy Miau Oka cat's miau and sell for few Megabucks.

But hey, every Miranda, Mamiya, Mamma Mia lens now is Tommy Miau lens, so I am going to have a big company. I know, there was a secred collaboration between Tomioka and KMZ... and every 58mm Helios is a Tomioka. I did read the secret files in the basement of KMZ. And Тётя Маша (aunt Mary) has a Tomioka plant in her огород (veggie garden) growing, so $$$$$ is the limit.

Here’s a group of Canon 35mm f/1.4 lenses, for example, and there don’t appear to be any bad copies. It’s a nice, reasonably tight group of results. And knowing how other lenses look when they’re bad.

image

Unfortunately (for my sanity), all lenses aren’t primes with nice tight test patterns that make great examples. Below is a run of almost 100 copies of the Canon 24-70 f2.8 zoom lens tested at 70mm. Why so many? Because when I first tested two dozen copies they were a random smattering of results scattered around the chart. Data doesn’t make any sense? Get more data. Luckily we have a lot of lenses.
