The Nokton lens is tested with the GH2, the PanaLeica've seen a few videos, references and analysis in the video section. I think the Nokton is manual, so it is more than indificated video stills, and PanaLeica is suitable for photo and video.

I'm saving for the Nokton, but its price is a bit prohibitive -at least for my third world economy-, PanaLeica wanted to know if it is a good option and I can get a result close and as cinematic as the Nokton or the step and go straight to the Nokton.

I would like to arguments for and against each.

Thanks.

Century anamorphic lens, how to get better image quality. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5935/century-anamorphic-lens-how-to-get-better-image-quality. Mon, 28 Jan 2013 17:32:26 +0000 gh2hacked 5935@/talks/discussions Alot of peoples are using the Century anamorphic lens also refer to as Century 16:9 ratio converter. So, I thought I share a little discovery that can help you get better image quality out of this lens. The Century anamorphic lens in my opion has better center sharpness than the La7200. It is lighter, smaller, and has better build quality. What is so interesting about this lens is that it is one of the very few anamorphic lens that allows you to use with wide angle lens of 30mm or less. It has a stretch factor of 1.33x. Making it very ideal for cameras that has 16:9 censors. It one major draw back is the blurry edge. The blurry edge kind of kills everything so great about this lens. Although, not much of a problem if you film indoor and work your scenes. Sometime the blurry edge can enhance the shallow depth of field. So, how do we overcome this flaw? To overcome this problem, I have discover that if you attach a +1 diopter in front of the Century, the blurry edge are gone. Now, you can focus the image as close as 1.5 feet. Infinity focus is not being affect at all! I guess the original design is for a small censor size camera and the +1 diopter seem to fix all the problems. Now the Century is back in the game for me and hopefully it will for you too! I hope everyone found this article helpful and please share your though and comments.

Looking for zoom lens recommendation with requirements http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6111/looking-for-zoom-lens-recommendation-with-requirements Wed, 13 Feb 2013 21:43:28 +0000 super_spyder 6111@/talks/discussions Hey there I'm looking for a recommendation for a zoom lens with the following things, but am having a hard time finding it. This is going to be used with a Preston FI+Z or C-Motion unit on an FS700, possibly with a speedbooster if it is a FF lens.

-Hard stops on zoom and focus, most likely a manual lens. I'd be afraid of breaking an AF lens even if it has hard stops.

-Zoom and focus rings can't change position while zooming or focusing

-Must be in the "normal" to wide range on the wide end, so anything with a 17 or 24 or 28 or 35 on the wide end. I don't care much about the long end.

-Constant aperture, is a major plus.

I do not need constant volume on the lens, or anything very fast.

Any help would be appreciated.

Additional Aperture for Better Bokeh? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6008/additional-aperture-for-better-bokeh Mon, 04 Feb 2013 12:50:58 +0000 fosterchen 6008@/talks/discussions I found this item on Ebay.

It should give a really nice circular bokeh with the number of aperture blades on it. Might be a great cinematic upgrade for lenses with less than desired bokeh. Has 58mm thread, with a max aperture diameter of 37mm. Clickless lever for smooth change.

Question is, would it work if screwed into the front of your lens and how well? Has anybody tried something like this?

Matte boxes for use on a steadicam http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5971/matte-boxes-for-use-on-a-steadicam Thu, 31 Jan 2013 18:13:05 +0000 kronstadt 5971@/talks/discussions What kind of matte box solution have you got for situations when your GH2 is on a steadicam stabilizer?

When using a camera stabiliser (steadicam, glidecam etc) it's very unlikely that you are going to put the whole rig on with rod holder, rods, FF, MB etc --that's just too heavy, unless, of course, you have a steadicam vest - and most people here don't. Plus, there is the practical irrelevance of using a FF while the camera is on a stedicam (unless of course, you have a separate focus puller person who is using a remotely operated FF - most people here don't).

So the solution is often to take your naked GH2 and place it on the steadicam just as it is. The problem then are the flares. So I thought of getting one of those rubber lens shades that can be easily stuck to the lens, but the problem with those is that they are not always catered for wide angle lenses.

My question: have you ever seen a rubber lens shade that could be attached directly to the lens, but at the same time have collapsible increments like this?

Suggestions for Best Camera + Lens for ~$1K http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5521/suggestions-for-best-camera-lens-for-1k Tue, 18 Dec 2012 16:42:44 +0000 jsteg094 5521@/talks/discussions Hello,

I've spent weeks researching, and I've decided to turn to some aficionados.

First up, Camera: I've found that the GH2 is the best price/performance camera. Is this still true today, or are there better ones, such as the Olympus E-M5? Or, would it be best to wait -- do you think there will be anything extraordinary worth waiting for in the first few months of 2013?

Lastly, Lens: I've seen some people use old TV SD 2/3" Lenses, like B4 and C-Mount, etc. Are these worth it? I've heard that (for the most part), the IQ isn't very good, and there's a large amount of work (modifications) to get them to work.

Should I instead be looking at native lenses, like the Leica 25mm? Lots of people talk about anamorphic lenses, and the Voigtlander f/0.95. It seems like almost everyone raves about the Voigtlander, and while it seems expensive, is it truly worth it (price/performance) over say the Panny 20mm or even the Leica 25mm?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope this topic helps others as well! -Josh

F/32 for Macro? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4997/f32-for-macro Thu, 25 Oct 2012 22:35:25 +0000 ragnar 4997@/talks/discussions Noob question here. I've been watching Macro How to videos and they seem to all be using Canon DSLR and Canon lenses. Those macro lenses all seem to go to f/32. I understand why...greater depth of field needed for macro, but I don't see any Oly or Pana m4/3 lenses that go to f/32. Most are f/22, I think. Am I wrong? Is that f/22 for m4/3 lenses really an effective f/32 in the full frame world or am I not getting something here? It isn't a complaint as my m4/3 macro shots are pretty good, I think, and will get better with that nice Oly 60mm Macro f/2.8 that's coming. I'm just curious if anyone knows what I'm trying to ask here.

Adapting integrated (motorized) zoom lenses from super8mm cine camera? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5247/adapting-integrated-motorized-zoom-lenses-from-super8mm-cine-camera Mon, 19 Nov 2012 18:26:14 +0000 tomek123 5247@/talks/discussions Hello,

I found some VERY good offers for super8 film cameras like these:

http://www.super8data.com/database/cameras_list/cameras_revue/cameras_revue.htm

http://www.super8camera.com/netsearch.php?sq=canon+518&page=2

http://www.super8data.com/database/cameras_list/cameras_nizo/nizo_156xl.htm

http://super8arena.com/braun-nizo-4080-p-188.html

Unfortunately, I heard from the sellers that they have unchangeable lenses.

As I understood the zoom distance of this lenses can be changed from a button on the camera body, so probably it would be difficult to take off the lens from the cam... One of the sellers told me the lens has electric control of the zoom and the aperture is changed also from the camera.

I don't know anything about this, but these zoom lenses are pretty fast and VERY cheap (Revue Reflex Zoom f: 1.7 \ F: 8-40 mm and Canon 9.5 - 47.5mm f/1.8 and especially Schneider Macro-Variogon 1,4 / 7 - 80 mm from the Brown cameras) .

I think they could be useful for GH2/3 with a ETC mode, so I wondered if someone already achieved some adaptation of this lens type to micro 4/3?

Thank you in advance.

I purchased this last Fall and have used it with my GH2. Its a very good, affordable way to shoot at this focal length. The focus ring moves very smoothly and fluidly. This is a unique lens in that it has three built-in filters: Y2 (yellow), R60 (red) and 81B (warm). Of course, shooting with the lens on normal is an option too. The adapter fits solidly on the GH2 and had no wiggle room or "play" like other Fotodiox adapters I've used.

It's basically been sitting in it's pouch inside the Panasonic box for 6 months. It comes with everything it came with when purchased new - Panasonic box, papers, front and rear lens cap, lens shade.

Great zoom range from very wide (14mm) to zoomed in very far (140mm). Lens has Optical Image Stabilization.

Price is $399 and includes free shipping if in US.
