I am sure that there is a topic here about this- however I can't find it after searching half the day.

I am wanting to know if the 14-140mm standard zoom lens is good for matte box usage etc... if not is there another lens? I mainly (only) use primes, so zoom would be just for documentary work. (so auto focus needed for run and gun)

Please let me know your thoughts, lots of guys on PV don't really have much nice to say regarding the 14-140, I have also used it and it is quite slow... :(

Thanks in advance...
@VK if you can find the thread that details this please take the liberty to post and close topic.]]>
Music Video GH2: Creating a vintage look http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9790/music-video-gh2-creating-a-vintage-look- Tue, 04 Mar 2014 16:16:27 +0000 dlzn 9790@/talks/discussions I came up with a concept about a midget traveling around the city, kind of like Alice In Wonderland. Video shot - hand held - and edited by me. Using Panasonic GH2 and just Minolta MD 50mm F1.7. A few close-ups were done with the Sigma 19mm F2.8. Hack Flowmotion 2.

FS: Schneider Variogon 18-90mm/f2 S16/1"/BM Pocket http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9768/fs-schneider-variogon-18-90mmf2-s161bm-pocket Sun, 02 Mar 2014 11:39:37 +0000 cantsin 9768@/talks/discussions Selling my Schneider Variogon 18-90mm/f2, a c-mount zoom with full coverage of 1"/S16, in very good used state: clean glass, intact coating, perfectly working focus and aperture rings. Works very well on the Blackmagic Pocket. With 800g, it's lightweight enough to be used on the camera without additional lens support. Optically, it's better than for example Canon's V6/V7 zooms.

Since the Pocket has been available, this lens is very sought-after, and there are even Ebay offers for $1000. So it wasn't easy for me to figure out its fair and realistic market value.

Chips and Scratches on Lens Glass & Its Real Effects on Image Quality http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9728/chips-and-scratches-on-lens-glass-its-real-effects-on-image-quality Thu, 27 Feb 2014 15:17:50 +0000 fosterchen 9728@/talks/discussions Everybody wants to keep their lens glass in top shape right?
But what is the real world effects of having scratches and chips in the glass? Does it really show up in the image or is it merely cosmetic? I'm sure there is some psychological reasoning to wanting to have immaculate glass all the time, and having such scratches and even chips would rub most of us the wrong way, hence wanting to sell and replace the lens altogether.

I just bought a really nice lens for a very good price due to the fact it has a few chips and scratches on the front glass.
However, the seller states it has no effect on the image quality.
So I received the lens (a Canon FD 85mm F1.2 L), and initial tests do not show any signs of the chips or scratches, which is a win for me.

Does focal range matter concerning if the chip or scratch will show up in the image? I'm sure for macro lenses it would affect, but telephoto lenses might be more forgiving.

Anyone's thoughts and experiences in using chipped or scratched lenses, please provide!

One Perfect Lens? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4880/one-perfect-lens Sat, 13 Oct 2012 00:21:55 +0000 matt_gh2 4880@/talks/discussions I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone who's used the Nikon 17-55 lens (with the f 2.8 available all the way through the zoom) or is familiar with it or other zoom lenses. What do you guys think about this lens as a single lens to shoot a narrative feature film. Our cinematographer wants to use one lens with a zoom as we are occasionally in cramped/tight locations, and the perfect shot is often between the fixed focal length lenses we have (18mm, 28, 50). I'm curious to see if anyone has any experience/knowledge of this lens' image quality, particularly when on a GH2 (will be using one of the Apocalypse Now settings. probably Boom - (thank you Driftwood))

The f 2.8 is pretty good for low light, but for very very low light we'll have ample lights at all time.

So what do you guys think...could this be one perfect lens?

(Here's a link to the lens at B@H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/300490-USA/Nikon_2147_17_55mm_f_2_8G_ED_IF_AF_S.html

What GH2 lens setup should I go with? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9687/what-gh2-lens-setup-should-i-go-with Fri, 21 Feb 2014 22:16:51 +0000 regaliafilms 9687@/talks/discussions Hey, so I've had a GH2 for a bit now, and I'm in need of some nice lenses, I did some research and I came up with two different lens setups. Can't decide which one I should pick so if the community here could help me it would be very wonderful.

SETUP 1: Panasonic LUMIX G 20mm f/1.7, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

SETUP 2: Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, Nikon 28mm f/2.8D AF Nikkor , Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Lens

I'm going to be filming for the most part, short films, and I want lenses that will give me a nice cinematic feel? (can't find the right word to use here) But, just want to get your guys' opinions on these setups and what you guys think I should do. I am on a budget here so if you are going to make other suggestions for setups please try to keep it below $850. Thanks!

Eyemo Mount to M4/3 Adapter? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9673/eyemo-mount-to-m43-adapter Thu, 20 Feb 2014 03:19:29 +0000 goanna 9673@/talks/discussions I have a few Eyemo cameras and some nice lenses which rarely get used since I shoot hardly any 35mm film now.

Some time ago I wrote to Ryszard of foto-akcesoria.com.pl asking if he could make up an Eyemo-> M4/3 adapter. He replied:

I think it would be possible to make an adapter for MFT system. I don't know exact technical details of Eyemo cameras so you would have to send me one lens in order to make measurement.

He's in Poland. I'm in Aus and reluctant to post my lenses away. By some chance, does anybody live near have a lens they can show this guy?

BTW, you can get some very good high-end lenses in the Eyemo mount, from older Cookes to modern (ex-NASA) General Scientifics. They're cheaper than some other mounts and I suspect the lack of adapters might be one reason.

Lenses to use with GH4 / 4K Cameras http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9575/lenses-to-use-with-gh4-4k-cameras Sun, 09 Feb 2014 13:37:30 +0000 JanH 9575@/talks/discussions I'm pretty excited about the potential of the GH4 (and I suppose any other 4K cameras at $2,000 or so). I am currently using the GH13, mainly in 720p mode with a variety of legacy full frame lenses. Canon FD, Minolta MD, Nikon, Helios, Pentax etc. These all produce a lovely image, less clinical than the Panasonic 14-140 kit lens, IMHO.

Now with 4k coming along, I'm wondering if these older lenses will have any chance of producing the detailed images that the higher resolution sensors are capable of. Or, whether the way forward would be to use an RJ or Metabones speed booster with these lenses to get the detail/ resolution? It would be a shame to not be able to get the benefits of 4k unless using m43 lenses.

Does anyone have any experience, or opinions on this subject? I'd appreciate any comments.

I just recently wanted to buy a fisheye lens to filming skateboard videos, but I came across 2 different fisheyes :

  • The Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 for Micro 4/3

Or

  • The Rokinon 8mm f2.8 for Sony E-mount (NEX-7, NEX-5, NEX-3...) + Adapter

The thing is I know the Rokinon for M4/3 is going to fit directly on my camera (tried it in a shop), but the Rokinon for Sony is much faster, but maybe a little less wide...

Can you please help me choose ?

Thank you.

SOLD: GH2 + Fujinon B4 ENG/Documentary Kit http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7727/sold-gh2-fujinon-b4-engdocumentary-kit Thu, 08 Aug 2013 22:31:53 +0000 BobbyMcDonald 7727@/talks/discussions Selling my trusty GH2 basic kit. This setup has covered the large majority of my video needs for awhile now, but trying to raise some extra cash for Burning Man, and cleaning out the old camera shelf. The camera is in great shape and comes with: 1 GH2 (obviously) grey, hacked (can return firmware to stock or any patch on request) 3 Panasonic batteries, all keep full charge, 1 Panasonic charger like new, 1 64GB Sandisk Pro Extreme SD card - this is the king, what you need for driftwood's and others top shelf patches. Has yet to fail me. 1 Fujinon Pegasus III B4 lens w/ rubber hood and hand brace 1 Cieco7 B4 -> m4/3 adapter with tripod mount 1 77mm circular polarizer, uv filter and homemade vari-nd

Everything is in great working order, and good to great cosmetically. The lens covers the equivalent of 31mm-438mm, a 14x range! This lens is a legend and a workhorse, not clinically sharp, but still holds great detail, especially in the center... a great match to the super sharp GH2. Comes with hand mount and the power zoom should work fine if hooked up to a 12v power source.

I'd prefer to sell as a set, but would be willing to part it out if the lens were to sell first. Asking $885

I'll get pics up tomorrow, I'm happy to answer any questions.

Thanks.

The coarse focus is done on the Cinelux via a thumb screw at the front but the fine focus is done on the imaging lens attached to the rear so there are two focus controls to worry about.

I am interested in a modification, but first I have some questions

1 have you taken one apart? - if so please post pictures

2 the focus range is 3m - INF, via a small knob - how many full turns to go from near to far?

3 is the focus low torque or high (stiff), could it take a pinion gear for gearing or servo/stepper?

Hacking electronic gearing of panasonic lenses? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7999/hacking-electronic-gearing-of-panasonic-lenses Wed, 04 Sep 2013 08:27:23 +0000 2wheelsimon 7999@/talks/discussions I have attempted to find where to locate this post and I hope this is right.

Just bought an Edelkrone FF for my GH3 rig and it is really nice but a thought occurred to me. The "throw" on the follow focus is very small when using the Edelkrone "tie-wrap" type gears, so I wondered if it is possible to affect the gearing ratio of the fly-by-wire focus of the Panasonic lens (especially 12-35 and 35-100). Would make subtle adjustments of focus a lot easier. I realise I could ask the same question of Edelkrone to see can they produce different gearing (unlikely it has to be said) or maybe could try a much bigger diameter lens gear, but a way to lower the sensitivity of the lens would be really handy (let you leave on lens gear...) - for me anyway.
