Motorized timelapse options for varavon slider? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11105/motorized-timelapse-options-for-varavon-slider Sat, 23 Aug 2014 15:05:31 +0000 ICProductions 11105@/talks/discussions Hey PV! Are there any options/alternatives to the motoroid/timeroid for the varavon sliders (specifically v800)? Are there other brands/systems that work ?

I'm mainly wondering about the Konova Motorized Kit B that comes with the crank as well. It seems a better value and can be upgraded as I go.

I've also been entertaining DIY and have read numerous ideas, including this one - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m5_ZQCQj7sg.

(He doesn't talk about how to attach it to the carriage at all, I'm thinking of buying the varavon weight pulley because it has a plate that fits)

Does anyone have examples of DIY for the varavon ?

Also - going the DIY route - is it a better design to have the have the motor on an end or with the carriage?

Searching for a new camera companion http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13638/searching-for-a-new-camera-companion Tue, 01 Sep 2015 06:51:26 +0000 kolinko 13638@/talks/discussions hi everybody!

I've been following various posts for some days regarding research for a new camera for my video works after having used the canon sx200 for several years to shoot video. For my last work (degree show video at art school) I borrowed a gh1 and I quite liked it, but only due to the existence of this enormous lively community which enriches video life to such a high degree! thanks for that girls and guys!! For the work with the hacked (using mostly 100Mbps Max Latitude Settings V2) gh1 I bought myself two voigtlander noctron prime lenses, one 42.5mm (equiv. 85mm) and one 17.5mm (equiv. 35mm) which I quite enjoyed. I also used a photo tripod, one LED extra light and the great sound device t702 with a great 20 yrs old neumann mic from my school. I search for a camera that works well with these two micro4/3 prime lenses.

I now think about getting either the nx500, gh2/3/4(?), nx1, maximum 1000 EUR. But then I still want to have a lot of extra equipment like for sound, tripod, monitoring and so on. By the way is it possible to use a Mac-Book Air as a live monitor with any of these? I have absolutely no experience and I feel a little bit overwhelmed with all that extra research/equipment, trying to figure out everything here at the forum. Getting a lot of extra gear slowly is wanted, I want to grow up using more and more specific equipment for monitoring, recording sound, follow focus...

For my approach to video/cinema I never worked for money (except for one apprenticeship) so far, my personal projects are non-funded projects and I do operate everything myself (sound, video, editing, even standing in front of the camera) so far. I’d like to shoot either still or handheld mostly, considering the possibility to buy a rig or something similar one day. I’m not so much the studio and big team guy until now...

Since I'm so unsure about what I need maybe I should for the start just go for the gh1 body only costing me 240EUR?

The fact that panasonic goes to three years of guarantee (gh3/4) sounds tempting to me as well. I guess I'm too unsure/experimental and too easy to manipulate.

Thanks in advance! kolinko

Miniture Location Sound for DSLRS http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10138/miniture-location-sound-for-dslrs Thu, 10 Apr 2014 23:34:10 +0000 KenMartini 10138@/talks/discussions Here are 4 location sound configurations for traveling lite. The Yoga battery case powers the lav's which makes 2 of the configurations possible. This is a battery powered (1- AAA battery) electret phantom power supply only available in Europe. It can be found on Ebay. The Azden Cam-3 mixer makes it possible to separate the 2 channels going into the camera, or the recorder. The mixer is passive and has no amps. The photos should be self explanatory.

The sound check (by ear) was very good in the configurations that did not use the Sennheissers. The Sennheissers introduced their typical noise. When pre amps from the Sony PCM-M10 recorder, or the sennheissers are used, set the camera level to one click above off. The Sony M10 has cleaner sound than many larger and more expensive recorders, and is 1/4 the size. The best sound recorded to the camera was obtained by going through the M10. Having 3.5mm connectors makes it a bit more fragile. I suggest using all right angle connectors.

I found that the lavs with power supplies directly connected through the Azden Cam-3 mixer was clean enough for speech, although it does depend on the pre amps of the camera you are using which typically has some noise on the floor. I used Countryman B6's. They are one of my favorite lavs. The sound quality is excellent and they are so small I can push them through button holes. That way they are virtually invisible, and I do not have to contend with clothing ruffling. I advocate not using transmitters whenever possible such as sit down interviews. If you are fortunate to have Lectros wireless, then there is no noise issue.

What is very cool is using the mixer connected directly to the camera. The entire sound kit fits in a pocket. The miniature boom mic is a "Que Audio DSLR-Video Microphone Kit"

I did a bit more testing and it looks like some noise is being introduced by the lav power supplies. The unit itself only supplies power and has a passive volume control. My guess is that it is the 4 meter cable which is probably low quality. I will shorten the cables and report back.

I tested the mic power supplies and found almost no difference with them in, or out. I am concluding that they are not a significant noise contributer, although I still think think the cables are not very good, and i will replace them with higher quality. The cases snap open and it looks like an easy fix.

FS: Selling 2 Tiffen Indie ND Kits http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8677/fs-selling-2-tiffen-indie-nd-kits- Tue, 05 Nov 2013 13:58:14 +0000 matt_gh2 8677@/talks/discussions EDIT: Price drop to $195. Free shipping.

EDIT: The .3 to 1.2 kit has sold. But the 1.5 to 2.1 + Circular Polarizer kit is still available for $220. Shipping is free.

I'm selling 2 Tiffen Indie ND Kits. One is the kit that has 4 NDs in it (.3, .6, .9, and 1.2). The other is the kit that has the (1.5, 1.8, & 2.1 NDs, and the Ultra Circular Polarizer). I bought these brand new from filmtools.com about 6 months ago for a film shoot. The script went through some revisions and ended up being shot all at nighttime, so we had no day shots, and didn't need to ever use these ND filters. These are all 77mm.

They come in black padded pouches that have a belt loop so you can attach to your belt for easy access on a shoot. They are still in the Tiffen boxes, new and unused. If you want both of these, I'll offer them at $350 for the pair. If you want just one, the .3 to 1.2 kit is $165, and the 1.5 to 2.1 plus Circular Polarizer kit is $220. Shipping is free.

GH2 Accessories – Cage, Matte Box, Rails, Monitor http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7547/gh2-accessories-cage-matte-box-rails-monitor Wed, 17 Jul 2013 19:41:30 +0000 kingmixer 7547@/talks/discussions Well, I've held off on this as long as I can. Non-paying clients have forced my hand – so I have to part with some beloved gear that I put a lot of time, research and money into acquiring together. This is a nice "full package" of GH2 shooting accessories. It includes:

• Anodized Cage with handles, rails, allen wrenches, and threaded holes, even has lips to secure camera and allows battery change without removing camera.

• Matte Box (vertically adjustable) with flags and different sized rings,

• Rails (vertically adjustable on tripod mount), both top and bottom rails

• Monitor with three batteries, hood, charger, short HDMI cable, and AC plug. Not a high-end monitor, but works well, reliable, and is great for focusing.

• Follow-focus, including two different mount heights, I can forewarn that this does have some play, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's an easy fix.

• Threaded arms and shoes mounts – work for mounting any items on cage or camera.

All is in good cosmetic and working condition (and in a nice Pelican Case), except the minor play on the follow focus which was mentioned. If possible, I'd like to sell the kit or as much together as I can. Check out pictures and make me reasonable offer if interested please.

*note this does not include the camera bodies themselves.

GH2 Kit (barely used) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6840/gh2-kit-barely-used Mon, 29 Apr 2013 13:06:07 +0000 tmartinphoto 6840@/talks/discussions I bought what may have been the last new GH2 kits from B+H. I have the 14-42 lens, 2.5 - 3.5mm mic adapter, 2 lens adapters for Nikon lenses (one regular and one for G lenses) and all of the boxes / accessories that came with the camera.

I bought it about a month ago with grand hopes of doing a project with it but I have barely had time to get it out of the box.

As far as usage, I have shot maybe 50 pictures with it and maybe 1 hour of video at the most.

The camera has NOT been hacked.

I just want to get most of my money back. I paid 750 US for the kit and will let the adapters go with it. Shipping should be somewhere around $20 in the us (insured).

Edit: I prefer to sell only in the US please.
